This is clearly not the process they use daily... there's a power hammer behind the smith and the 2 disciples aren't proficient at swinging even a sledge...

Japan is another planet when it comes to precision in craftsmanship. Greetings from the Arabian Peninsula to the ancient Japanese people

the beauty of japanese sword making is not just about the sword itself, but the dedication of the swordsmith is putting into it ...
Seeing videos like this one really makes me to want to spend a day or two observing this process in person. I have sooooo many questions to ask.
A wonderful video of old tradition and craftsmanship 😊 Also excellent that there are still apprentices who want to learn this old craft, this way this art doesn't die out 👍🙏
Thanks a lot 😊👍🙏
Well they have to import Europeans for apprenticeships. I wonder if the customer knows his expensive new sword was sullied by the hands of a white man. Hope he got a steep discount.

Beautiful work ❤ I always enjoy seeing a historical art being kept alive 🥰
Imagina isso cendo feito a 1000 anos atrás 😮👏 ótimo trabalho
I learned a lot from this video, making very complicated swords produces very beautiful masterpieces
So much respect to these wonderful swordsmiths 😊 they are amazing artisans a league all their own
It’s actually amazing people make swords, harder working too
That was truly beautiful in the artistry in making the katana.
Tradition & Heritage, this will be passed on generations after generations 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Absolutely beautiful work! Amazing job!

I love this video the most ! there’s no machine work at all I want to learn traditional work If I had a chance !
I was recently able to purchase a tamahagane shirasaya, I simply love it, and I also love watching these forging videos. True artisans they are, simply beautiful craftsmanship, and attention to detail indeed.
Absolutely amazing video and techniques uses. I'm still mesmerised over how they started fire 🤣🤣
Me aswell! I was like what is he doing?

I always enjoy watching the art of katana forging, an ancient tradition that refuses to die out even today. I pray that this tradition will remain in practice for future generations. For the way to the future is by paying respects for the past.
Nothing is simple. Striking a match..NO..hammer a piece of iron until it glows and lights the match on it. I'm sure it has some old traditional meaning instead of using a Bic plastic lighter. :) He taps the lump of iron on the anvil to signal he's ready and also to get rid of slag flakes. The ash is to raise the carbon content in the steel, and the clay "sauce" is to contain the ash so it doesn't drizzle off. A beautiful piece of art!
Stunning job!
Banging by hand is a lot more complex?! Very cool!
I find it extremely amazing how the forge is lit with the striking of hammer to a metal pin

The Japanese never uses power tools, while crafting traditional katana.RESPECT...🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 But, how did they made the hole in the tang ( handle) for the rivet???

It’s very interesting the way the master stacks the pieces of tamahagane. I can’t tell the difference between the sections, but he can.

Quite interesting to see a Western person as an apprentice. Must be extremely difficult to get a spot as an apprentice to a master, especially for a non-Japanese.
Being the Western apprentice, I’d say it is not easy to get a spot, but not as hard as most people think. Provided that you speak perfect Japanese of course. If you don’t, I wouldn’t recommend starting such an apprenticeship anyway!
And it's also quite expensive. The masters believe that the old traditions cannot be widely disseminated, but for the sake of money they will teach at least the devil.
Actually it's becoming more and more easy. As traditional swordcraft is dying out. So most are more then eager to try on western apprentices. There is about 300 smith's as of now. 10-15 years from now there will be roughly 30. As most will have retired. And most apprentices nowadays don't stay until completion. And there is less and less apprentices applying.
Beautiful.
