It’s always fun to watch a comedian with deep roots in “yes and” improv try to riff with a comedian with deep roots in deadpan absurdism and uncomfortable hostility.
THIS! Their personas are so wildly different and i couldn't put my finger on _why_ except for the cultural difference, but it's absolutely the difference between cutting your teeth doing shows and EFF or doing improv at UCB
@@westofley what does EEF mean 🙈 Google is not helping

I can't tell if this comment is secretly genius, or if I'm an idiot. I can't tell which is which in your comment, because it somehow works both ways, lol.
Deadpan absurdism and uncomfortable hostility are the pillars of Britain, its the only reason the country hasn't collapsed yet

"You were better on Seth Meyers!" - calling it now
I was waiting for him to be in the audience
“So were you!”
For that Vancouver part he did a Monday and Wednesday show. I was there for the second show on Wednesday, he did a mini Q&A and I believe he said "any one have any more heckles they didn't get out during the show?" and someone shouted, "You were better on Monday!"
James should inform the person that their heckles were more emotionally devastating in Vancouver (or previous). That'll show them.
@@sweetlows1 I was at that show as well. I had to ask my sister if she heard the Glasgow one or just the monday one, and her being smarter than me put 2 and 2 together and said that the heckler from this story must have been what he was talking about when he asked if he should tell us the reference or just let everyone think that person was an ass.
Based on the heckling story, it sounds like Mick has grown up.
🥬
Haha! 😂 James, you've been cabbaged again! (Random bike.)
Had the same thought!😂
Mick's probably around 20 now, so...
Genius.
I don't know which was my favourite part: the story about the heckler, the absurd bit about John Oliver being territorial and peeing everywhere, or the joke about sending a blank card to your mom because of the writer's strike.
I liked the bit where he said it was hard to get out of the reader's strike because you couldn't read the new contracts during the negotiation.
@@SergeyLazutinThis too was brilliant :)
I’ll never forget John Oliver and Seth explicitly endorsing the Sinaloa Cartel’s cocaine
Imagine the territorial John Oliver
My eyes are also circles
James is absolutely right. You should mention him more often. Maybe a segment everyday on why James is the best guest ever.
Maybe even wish him happy birthday on every show
Just mention him mysteriously and say he knows and move on
Nice try, James
Maybe incorporate into the stinger about the podcast? Something like "(long pause) or don't! James Acaster is the best guest we've ever had on Late Night"
Sneak the phonemes jay/jam zay cas tar into each show for the jackals
The look Seth has of "game recognizes game" when he has a legitimately hilarious guest....
It's the look he has for John Oliver every time he's on the show
it's so interesting bc they have wildly different personas
I like that you can tell who he thinks is funny.
I was at the Glasgow show with the second heckle! It was meant to be a 2-hour show and overran by an hour, but he only got about 1 hour of his material done because the "heckles" (mostly just drunk people shouting weird stuff) absolutely derailed it. He just started enjoying how weird it had gotten so stayed on until the venue kicked him off. Weirdest comedy show of my life, but I was crying with laughter.
Ugh I went to the second night and he talked about how crazy the night before had been. I’m so jealous lol
Wouldn't be Glasgow without drunk people shouting weird stuff
Oh I'd just love that
Fess up, mate, you were the fan/heckler who followed James through 3 shows, weren't you? :p 😂
I was in Edinburgh and that was the same. James ran out of time to actually go through any material in the second half
Can confirm! James's back-and-forth with the guy in Vancouver took up a good chunk of the second hour of his show. It was brilliant! James tries to play it cool, but he was chuckling through a lot of it.
😂😂😂😂
I'm angry now I missed him in Vancouver. I thankfully got to see both Jimmy Carr and Dara O'Briain when they toured western Canada last year but even then I had to just stumble on to their tour information in time to get tickets. UK comedians don't get enough media attention here in Canada when they're touring.
@@mrquirky3626 After the intermission -- that's right, he did an hour, had a break, then another hour! -- he started telling a story about his childhood dog. Due to the length of the banter with the heckler (plus another guy), he never finished his story! (He made the decision to not finish it and told us he wasn't going to finish it.) Normally, I'd probably be a little disappointed in this. However, since I've seen a lot of comedians on their tours, I'm always a little disappointed when their Special is released because I've seen it all. But, in this case, I can look forward to hearing that whole story! :D It'll all be new to me. :)
Was also at the show, I guessed at the end the hecklers welcome show was intended to get derailed by crowd work. The show was definitely better for it happening. That guy was a ski instructor in Whis, we learned about his casual dating life and everything lol
@@Jesse12521 I found him on LinkedIn, that night. It's all true! 🤣
The writers strike being a strike on all writing is such a simple goldmine of a joke I'm surprised I haven't heard it before. Brought it home with the readers strike union negotiations.

Everything until then I was like, he's joking, but the plane noises sounded oddly believable ^^'
james’ ability to make a mortal enemy out of anyone he interacts with (i.e his friends son, local groups of hoodlums and now heckling fans) is a wonder
The Hecklers Welcome tour is INCREDIBLE. I was lucky to get a chance to watch it at the Roundhouse in London and it was somehow both hilarious and so deeply heartfelt. Here is a comedian who doesn't need to insult or belittle anyone to be funny, can work the crowd SO well, and actually makes you feel good with his comedy. James is an absolute treasure.
So jealous. I tried to get tickets, the website seemed the crash the second they were released and then they went very quickly. Was impossible to actually get them.
James's retort should be, "I've heard better heckles in Gothenburg."
The "no post address " and the " can't read the contract" lines were such smart comedy!
Well in the UK (and Canada it seems) you don't really qualify as a comedian unless you can actually make jokes up on the spot.
The joke and delivery of "God knows how it got to her..." - perfection.
James on his mental anguish during Celebrity Bake Off is the funniest and most harrowing description of a breakdown I’ve ever seen.
I started making it, had a breakdown, bon appétit.
Ohh now I have to go watch that clip again... So funny! =)

He did an ad read for his reading of the book on his podcast, and I genuinely couldn't tell if he was making it up or not. Him doing a bit about reading James and the Giant Peach just because his name is James sounds very Acaster.
I love how James embraces being obnoxious and leads with this strength
You mean you love how James is British?
You know, it’s funny you mention that. Watching it without sound for the first like, twenty seconds, I thought, “This guy seems so unlikable.” Then I watched on silent for another few seconds to confirm that he’s an obnoxious prick, and I could tell from his oral posture that he’s from the UK. I love that he is just as funny in an interview as he is on a panel show or doing a live set. No matter where or when, James always brings his "A"game.
This interview was so good, it was like a set in itself. Developed jokes, callbacks, even surprising twists of the flow. Acaster is top of his game.
I already watched this on Peacock last night, but came here to post. This is the most FIRE interview I've seen in ages. Many comedians get on the couch and the host just lobs them questions that lead into the guest's routine bits. James does a bit of that, but there's SOO much improv awareness. It's impressive. I love that he's got Seth cracking up, even though Seth probably knows the stage routine. I've always loved a good call back, and James gets them in so clean. I expect next time I see Acaster, he'll be an A-lister!
James is the absolute MASTER of the callback. I hope he gets a US gig because he's funny af
