New Tesla Model Y v used X ?Comparing efficiency, range, charging & practicality. Which do I prefer?
Used a Model X or new Model Y?
This is a simple vlog but as I’m driving a Tesla model Y and X back to back let me share some thoughts on the pros and cons of each.
I can compare directly the efficiency and what the real world range is too. Considering the model X is 6 years old with 76k how does it fare?
Reality is that the values of each are not too dissimilar so which is the best to get?
Certainly if you need more then 5 seats it has to be the Model X. We only get 5 seat Y’s here but I’ve tried a 7 seater in US and it was laughably small. The X has more space, frunk is bigger and it comes with things like the power doors, air suspension and the big pano windscreen.
The Y is great for efficiency and charging.
Which do you prefer? My thoughts are in this video.
Thanks for watching!

I took my Model X to get serviced and they gave me a Y for loaner and when I got back in my Model X it just made me realized how much I missed my X, so I would have to say I prefer the X over the Y…
What did you miss about your X? I feel the opposite when I leave my 3 for a day for an X - I miss the simplified dashboard, horizontal center display, one pedal driving, phone as a key, and faster charging (I know the new ones have those things, referring to older Xs)
the old Xs do not have one pedal driving ? somehow I thought all Teslas have that ( driving a Model 3 LR)
I had a loaner Model X (2018) 100D for a week when my Model 3 SR+ had some warranty cosmetic work done. I was totally smitten! If I could afford a Model X, that's what would be on my drive. However, my wife bought a Model Y and it is a totally different car to both the X and the 3. Decisions, decisions.... the Y is more practical than the 3, the 3 is more driver focused than then Y but the X is just a wet fish slap in the face to the rest of the auto industry. It is a Plovers Egg, outrageous and over the top in places but I think it is still the best of the best and everything else has to measure up to the X.
@@ouethojlkjn Joe … good words.
@@ouethojlkjn yeah for me it always about the combination of needs and desires to come to a joyul but rational decision. me mainly alone with my dog in an X wouöd be silly ... plus we did a qeek holiday (wife, ternage daughter, hunting dog and me) in southern croatia (1290km one way from prague) with the Model 3 LR and it was plenty enough soce etc and unbeatable driver experience and efficiency. so for me the top choice
It's nice to see we are now at the point where someone can say in all seriousness "these are only 150kW chargers.."
Yes... but it's not like the vehicles that claim '>150kW of charging' can *actually* charge at 150kW to full. Most can't even charge to 50% at that rate. It's all moot. What matters is efficiency really. How much *distance* can you put in per unit time spent charging.
That’s one of the big perks of the Audi eTron. It can charge at 150kW for as long time before tailing off.
@@anthonyadams270 ...hoping for an efficiency midlife update.
I put on 100,000 miles on my Performance Model X and it is in the shop and I was given a Model Y Dual Motor. I put on 1,500 miles on the loaner and I have to say - the Y has some really nice upgrades like the screen is super nice and the regen braking seems to be stronger in the Y. But the rest of the stuff - the X just demolishes. I don't like how so much of the screen has the FSD and other menus on top of the navigation map. And even though the Y is quick - the X Performance (and of course Plaid) is brutal. So much fun. And little things like the high beams coming back on. The X has this nice graduation of the low to high... the Y is just one or off. And of course the air suspension and the falcon wing doors.... AND... those automatic doors on the X are SOOOO nice. One doesn't know how awesome they are until you don't have them.
The X makes you feel pampered with the auto closing doors and the 6 seater feels like there is ample room for families. I got rid of it because it wasn't suited as my daily driver (quick trips) and short range. I miss it hugely, but may get another one if we move and have a more modern garage. A Victorian house did not plan for falcon wings. I also felt the Y was significantly slower when you mash the pedal. The MX is a supercar.
This is exactly what i wanted to know. Thanks for the great content
I've had a Y for two years and seeing your video has made me want an X so bad haha. Thanks for the honest and careful comparisons, great vid
Excellent. Wanted to substitute my MB V-Class for a long time with the MX, however, today I'd need the extra seats only 3-5 times a year and therefore chose the Y as it is more efficient and has a better range. However, I sometimes miss the moree comfy ride of the V...
Was looking for this exact type of video, didn’t expect to find it!
Really excellent road test and information. Thank you!
Great road test - Thanks! The X seems to have a bit of road/tire noise by comparison, but I can see the extra smoothness in the ride from the air suspension. Your road tests are very well done and seem to address most all my questions.
Have always loved the X, especially those falcon doors, but new is insanely expensive. Free supercharging is a no brainer too. In the interim, mY will have to suffice 🤗. No really - amazing car too - love it👌🏽👊🏽❤️
You are a very good presenter, your explanatory is clear thank you, most enjoyable to watch and listen.
Thank you! 🤝 Amateur but do my best with what we’ve got!
I own 2018 X with Free SuC. 65k km. No issues outside of the half shafts which need periodic replacement. I also have on order YP. X will stay with me forever. I did tripa across Europe and it’s the best car to such trips in. Love white interior and 6 seat configuration. Y is great but simply a class below.
Great video Richard 👌
I want a Y with air suspension and cooled seats, or an X with 4 normal doors.
Y with air suspension is the perfect car. Nothing would come close.
Truly a man of refined tastes! That would be ideal! The falcon wing doors while unique are problematic in cold climes, and the Y (while the 2022+ versions have had the benefit of over 30 revisions to the suspension components and configuration) would definitely have a superior ride with air suspension. I've seen designs for a powered front trunk and air suspension on the Y for 2023 sometime. Can't wait!
Very informative Richard, good video
Greetings from Aix-en-Provence France. Again a excellent video. I Would love the Model X but really can't justify the price, in Feb 22 I bought the basic Model 3 at 36k euros after the ecological grant. Really loved the car but really missed the practicality of my old Honda CRV and so sold the Model 3 for 48k euros and have now ordered the model Y rwd which in France after the ecological grant costs just 45k euros so altogether very happy with that deal. I have driven every electric suv currently on sale in France of which there are many, but after owning a Tesla for 6 months with all it's equipment every other manufacturer seemed to be playing catch up so I can honestly say that absolutely nothing comes close to the standard range model Y for value for money right now at least here in France as to get even close to the Y every other comparable ev optioned up was at least 10k more expensive and even with the incredible ecological grant's here in France I couldn't justify 10k more for a car with clearly inferior software and of course the Tesla supercharging network is the icing on the cake for me. Thanks again for the great video content as it was you that originally convinced me that the Tesla was the way to go getting my first ev.👍
Great and useful observations Richard !
Best demo for us that are 6ft. Thank you! Most videos just don't display how 6ft+ people fit in cars.
2019 X to 2022 Y here. Really miss the automatic front doors on the X, and the comfortable air suspension! Do NOT miss the falcon-wing rear doors. Found those to be a hassle and clumsy and cumbersome. They whacked things in the garage a couple times. On the Y I LOVE the big glass roof, normal sun visors, normal windshield. One of the biggest things though, to me, is now I can have a roof rack to carry things! Also love the hidden and more effective dash and vents. The Y also feels more futuristic and open to me.
I've been wondering about those doors: what if you're in an underground parking lot - will they smack the roof? What if you're parked really close to another car, will they open and scratch everything or remain closed? Thanks
@@PetitCorpsSaladeno, they have ultrasonic sensors in them and they work very well.
Excellent comparison video!
Super helpful no-nonsense video that's helping me make a decision of used X or Y (family of 5, with tall kids)
Thank you for this video. I'm getting ready to buy the Y or X (or possibly the Ioniq5) and this video helps a great deal. Any other new/recent updated discoveries re the differences?
Further to my comments below. Aside from the reverberation problem, we loved the YLR so much that when the Y Performance arrived in the UK, we changed our 3P order for one that we took delivery of just before Xmas. Tesla have clearly solved the reverberation problem. Our new YP is just a fantastic, super-fast allrounder. Our dilemma: whether to sell the 3LR Acceleration Boost that we have loved for over 2 years and now treat as a high performance sports car or, sell the X P100D that is a brilliant cruiser/rocket ship, seats 6, has free supercharging and makes European trips just effortless or, should we sell both and get a 2nd YP? I suspect that we might end up dragging it out until the X Plaid arrives to try.
I have an X and compared to the 3 or Y (which I both ride from time to time), the suspension of the X is far superior even on 22" wheels! On the 3 and Y you feel A LOT compared to the X. Also the X you test is not a Raven refresh; the mid-2019+ Xs are more quiet and drive even smoother due to a new front motor and a new suspension.
Great vidéo. You could have mentioned that the display in the X behind the steering wheel can be customised too (to display nav or music or energy or ... apps left or right of it, as you like it). Off topic: you speed up some parts of the video when you're "just driving". I like to see the country side/city streets of other countries, and if it bores me, I can fast forward anyway.
Another great video sir with all the answers I have questions. Almost as if you have predicted the future.
Excellent, honest, objective, comparison as ever. With free supercharging I imagine the battery pack has had many more supercharging sessions than home AC charging...but you didn't say? Tesla warn that battery pack degradation is increased in line with the number of fast DC sessions used. Any chance of a quick update on that idea especially as you have access to other model X's which don't have free DC charging so presumably would use a higher (and more normal?) percentage of AC home charging?
Good comparison 👍
I took delivery of my Model Y with 19-inch wheels last week, and I agree the ride quality has significantly improved compared with the test Model Y I drove back in February. I also like the new parcel shelf and note Tesla have gone from saying you shouldn't use a tire repair kit to now selling one as an accessory in the Tesla shop. I can't comment on the Model X as I have never driven one, but I prefer my new Model Y to previously owned Hyundai Kona EV and BMW X3. The Model Y feels very sturdy and solid to drive and reminds me of an older Mercedes E Class (pre plastic chrome bling era) I owned, but the Y has much better performance and handling!
Keith !! Good words … my findings are similar
Is it a German or Chinese built car. I’m looking at a brand-new model Y which arrived in September and is a Shanghai build. I’m hoping it will have the better suspension. No information on when they started fitting the improvements. I have yet to drive it..
I was doing a similar comparison back in 2020 when I got my Model 3 Long Range. I was comparing to a Model S 90/100. The adaptive suspension on the S/X is excellent. Also being a heavier car, the S rides better/smoother and is quieter. But make no mistake, the physical size of parking an S is noticeably different than parking a 3. Obviously I ended up with a 3 which cost me about $15,000 less than a used S that could get 289 miles of range (my 3 gets 322) at the time. After 2 full years of Model 3 ownership, I could see getting a refreshed 2022 S and enjoying the new screens, yoke, and other updates. But I couldn't be tempted by a 2021 or earlier S.
I test drove a Tesla model 3 today first ever test drive of a Tesla loved it and want one in Red red looked so good I test drove a white one the Red is my favorite color on them grey second
I changed from the model x to the y and I'm quite happy about it. As most of my charging is done at home, the free supercharger is actually not interesting compared to the better efficiency of the y. In terms of booth space the y is also more practical than my x 7 seater version, where the size of the booth was limited by the second seat row. My model y is a performance version and I replaced the 21 inches rims with 19 inches rim, which now makes the ride comfort and efficiency even better. All in all I am very happy with the change. Of course the x has some advantages, it remains more comfortable, the driver screen is great and the seven seats come in handy in some situations, but it doesn't compensate the advantages of the y wich I enjoy each time I am driving it. It's more narrow, more efficient, more practical
Bernard, best wishes. Thanks for posting (As a model Y owner who sometimes is curious about the x … )
What 19" wheels did you go with? Tire size? I too have a MYP with 21" and am looking to drop to 19" to get a bigger sidewall and more comfortable ride.
@@xamphoa the tires are 255/45 r19 104y the rims 104 8.5x19 5/114.3 ET cb76. I had to order the pressure sensors separately as tesla is using Bluetooth sensors now.
Where did you buy the 19 inch wheels?
@@FeedbackFarmacy a local shop in Belgium, you can also find rims online obviously
# 3:46, you still have the tiles that give you insights in energy usage, tyre pressure, music or whetever you likt to see. :) (its now in the left bottom)
Very good review. Thank you
Very interesting to see the comparison like that. My choice is still the Model S. And for many of the reasons you pointed out in the X. The detailed navigation in front of you, with the overview on the centre screen. And the extra info on the drivers clocks, efficiency etc. And the S is an excellent mile muncher. With a possible move to southern Italy, that comfortable long distance cruising is going to come in very handy, especially if I can find an S with free supercharging.
Love your channel does it come with a speed limiter as i like that in cars?
Again fantastic review, I prefer Model Y
I would need to look at the used X now. When we got the y the difference in price was larger.
You do get close up directions on the Y and 3 if you have the main screen on something else [bottom right] but not sure if it still does it if you have the mapping displayed (I will have to check!).
2:00 you touch the door to open out …but just approaching with the lead will open the door automatically! I enjoy your channel … super honest videos . Best wishes
Max, yes that is a cool feature but from my experience most owners turn it off. Way too many situations where you don't want the door to open just because you are close to it.
@@mmercury5598 I can’t imagine why ! It only opens when you approach with a charge lead !! Are you saying you sometimes pass by your car with a charge lead but no intent to insert it ? 🤦♂️
One thing about the Tesla you never seem to mention is the great voice control. I use that all the time. I am getting rid of my model 3 for a Y next week and will be driving to France and perhaps Italy the next day. Will see how it goes.
I also heat quite literally the speakers are supposed to be really good
The thumbnail image gives valuable insight into the difference between model Y and model X. Model Y is more aerodynamically tapered and has a lower coefficient of drag the model X.
I drove an early Toyota Yaris for an extended time, which has a central display. It's a non-issue. People make a problem of it because they want to. It's a thing that you'll worry about if you're determined to. The truth is, don't worry about it. You'll get used to it super easily. That said, what a lovely luxury from the MX. Is it better overall than its sibling MS? Obviously depends on your preferences.
Awesome channel, please update us if Battery have any issue and how Tesla deal with their warranty, thanks!!!!!!!!
I’m averaging 260w/mi on 3500 so far on my MYLR. Don’t think it’s that bad as aircon has been caned this summer and I have a loose interpretation of 70 😬
We still love our '16 MX90D w/AP1 and free supercharging! ❤️ It's the 6 seater also and pushing 115k miles. Red with white interior and medium colored wood accent panels. Yes, there are a few things I'd update, upgrade or change but there isn't another vehicle I'd want to buy as our primary vehicle except another X. Funny thing is before seeing this video I watched another where the vlogger was adding Hansshow soft-close latches to a MY. I've seen the SEXY buttons and auto doors(?) plus auto front and rear lids, driver binaries, etc. I asked my wife is she would consider a Y with all of those accessories. Her response was "maybe but only if the door closed when I touched the brake pedal" (that's after getting in, not driving). I know she didn't think about loosing the falcon-wing doors. I'm sure it would have been a 'No' if she had.
👍😂
X if u have money coming out from your butthole, Y if you want more economical and is almost as good as the X
Have you had any issues with components?
Richard, are you going to do a video on the "Tesla Vision" update? My 2022 LFP Model 3 just got it and i notice that the minimum following distance is now 2 and it forces auto wipers and automatically enables auto high beams too when acivating AP .
Great video thx Richard. I have a 02/22 MY and although the love the car, I dislike the crashy suspension, when the PCP is up, its going back unless I can source alt air suspension
Newer ones seem slightly better… but still harsh compared to many other cars
You say you sell the alcantara dahs addons. I cant find em on your website? I'm looking for alcantara on the dash and doors for our new 2023 Model Y. Can we order them from you? And if yes, at what pricepoint included shipping to Norway?
I love my new 2022 model y long range.
Model Y is the best Tesla by far. Only problem is suspension is quite harsh.
I drove a 2021 Model S LR for ten months, then bought a 2022 Model Y LR, which fits my lifestyle better. I call the suspension “tight” not “harsh” and actually prefer it to the softer sedan.
Its a yank mobile... Yanks are notoriously bad at suspension and ride quality
But hr has said the new batches are slightly softer
Brilliant.. need to look at the boot with 6 seater, as much space as model y?
Nice video, thanks for doing this. May have missed it, but was there any discernable difference in interior road noise between the two?
Road noise pretty similar and well suppressed in both to be fair
I have a model Y performance just could not justify the significant price dif and just couldn't see the value. Imo the Y just looks better
Honestly, I think the Y is a better designed vehicle. For how much bigger and less efficient the X is I would save the money and get a Y. If they ever bring air suspension to the Y it will make it even better. I think the other issue I have is with how much larger on the outside the X is, there doesn't seem to be that much more room inside. Either way, test drive both and pick your ride. Both are great vehicles to go from A to B, just do the math and understand cost to own/drive vs anything else on the road including non-EV options. At the end of the day its still just a vehicle.
We have both the X (June 18) and Y (June 22) , the X is my car and the Y my wife’s, but I do get to drive both, often in one day. The Y is a lovely car and a joy to drive, but the X feels more refined and is definitely smoother on rough roads. When we are out as a family, my wife prefers travelling with our son in the back in the X and of course on long journeys requiring supercharging we always use the X for the free supercharging which has saved me a good amount in 96k miles driving. For quality, the Y has been perfect straight from new with to date no issues, not even a panel gap. The X does have panel gaps, but those don’t worry me, and reliability wise has been pretty good. Only notable problems, the AC failed couple years ago, but that was covered by warranty, while more recently the power steering failed, but Tesla fixed that in under 3 hours the next working day, at a cost of about £200 which is not bad for maintenance costs on a 4-year old car. The X is heavy on tyres, needing replacing about every 20k miles. Don’t know yet for the Y. Both are fantastic cars and I love them both!
Thank you for your honest review as a owner for both models. I just bought 2023 Y which has comfort suspension. Love it.
I had this exactly choice to make, went for the MY. A brand new car, warranty, new tech, more range and in 5-7 years it's a 5-7 car and not a 11-13 years car.
Had the X, went for 3P. Next car will be YP. X was too large. YP can have hitch and roof rack whereas the 3P can only have roof rack. I also miss the hatch from X, but the Y has it also..
We changed from Model S to Y because the S was just too big for UK roads and especially multistorey car parks! A couple of expensive repairs after scraping it on kerbs that we just couldn't see. Model Y is much more suited to UK roads and parkjng
I had a 2017 Model X, and now have a 2022 Y LR and 2022 Model X LR. So I’m a one-man focus group. The Y is more nimble and sporty. It’s a much more basic design versus the X. I equate the interior of a Model 3/Y with a no-nonsense 80s German car. The new X is much more luxurious. It’s also quicker and a better roadtrip car because of the space, the back seat entertainment and adaptive suspension. And I love how the driver’s door closes when you put your foot on the brake. If it were the choice between a new Y or a used X, I’d go for the Y because it offers the newest tech hardware. But if I were to choose between a new Y or a new X, the new X is very seductive and worth the premium.
I WOULD prefer the Model X, due to the 7 seat configuration, but if I only could have the 5 seats, I would still prefer the X, but if it came down to finances, then the Y would be the best option for a seat config....but overall choice, I would prefer the Model X 7 Seat Config with the same colour trim you had in this video.
I'm kinda hesitate about getting Model Y this or next year, but my biggest concern is with the only 1 central display. As for now i'm driving petrol engine car and i'm used to have gauges on the dashboard in front of the steering wheel and having nothing there would be pretty strange for me.. ofc. most likely you'll get used to that fast, but..
Biggest problem are the seats. They are narrow and short in addition to lacking ventilation like you get in old cheap cars like Ioniq etc. Second biggest problem is the lack of regen level adjustment. Several other cars gives you the choice between 0, 1, 2, 3 regen level. Third is the wiper adjustment is on the screen. The auto function is not good enough as it is too sensitive, I have to touch the screen the whole time when it rains. Miss the handle for that. Fourth is the anoying sounds it makes all the time when using cruisecontrol and other silly sounds. Also the VESS should be different, or have a choice to change. Lastly the dampers could be softer and more comfortable. Part from that it's quite ok even though it would be good to have a display with some of the info in front of the steering wheel. The stupid wood lookalike laminat can be covered.
Seeing your maps on the system shows how little chargers you have over there! Pitty, but will get better over time for sure!
As I've mentioned before, a very recent build Model 3 Shanghai I drove was actually quite compliant in the ride. Looks like Tesla have listened to the wider feedback on 3 and Y ride 👍
Yes they have improved the ride
@@RSEV is a great company in that regard, as they listen to feedback. 👍
Tire pressure with my March 2022 MY is critical for the ride I found 41-42 PSI is ideal
Thanks for another great video! We have a MX 2019 100D and love it more than any other car. Our efficiency is 210 wh/km over its 50k km of driving. I mainly try to drive as efficiently as possible, without rapid acceleration and use regenerative braking 95% of the time to slow down. My wife and I took a test drive in the 2022 MYSR twice, and the M3LR twice (both on order). Both M3 and MY were super comfortable but the M3 had a much lower ride position compared to the MX. The MY ride height was 10% lower than the MX, so it wasn’t as big a difference. The M3, bring smaller, handled extremely well and was nimble … like the MX. Road noise in the MY was surprisingly better than on your previous reviews. I agree that the MX was cozier and more luxurious than the new M3 and MY, which on the plus side, have their impressive minimalistic design. On both MYSR test drives, my ears felt pressure & wanted to “pop” (like when rapidly ascending in a lift or in a plane), even when the car was stationary. My wife felt slightly nauseas in the MY. We don’t understand why, but need new EVs to replace the hybrids, so we are still going ahead with our M3 and MY purchases. No way in the foreseeable future are we selling the MX … 🙂.
Just need to add an MS to your stable. :)
Thanks for the write-up. I’m buying a 2019 X in one week.
Interesting you mention that, I've test driven the Y twice, and got nauseous both times. Assumed it was the hard ride. Not just me then.
@@KentBuchla Did you end up buying this X? If you did, congratulations as they're going to be a collector's item soon with RHD versions.

Thank you
What is the battery reliability like on a car this old? End of warranty and all. Is this something to be concerned about when buying a second hand X?
The MX is the luxury car and the MY even though expensive was meant to the be econo car. Because EVs are still relatively new, you pay the price to be an early adopter: Price, panel gaps, inefficiencies, etc. That said, the MY makes a great everyday car.
Had a interesting message from Tesla today seems my m3p's battery has gone bad, is this common mines a 2019 Fremont 17600mls?
I love the 6 seat setup in the X, and I also appreciate the extra screen. However I would choose a brand new Model Y every time.
Why?
Hey! Could you share why?
@kent It’s simply because of efficiency. The model Y is of course much, much cheaper (at least here in Norway), and you get a lot more range for the money due to a more efficient drivetrain/ drag coefficient combo. Personally I also prefer the interior (storage and phone chargers in the MY/M3). Have a look at Tesla Bjørn’s channel - he is an absolute EV legend and you will learn a lot from watching his high quality tests.
We have an X and a Y the y is a better vehicle except for the ride comfort but it’s okay, however the x tow’s beautifully up to 2.2 ton and is better at it than my old Landcruiser
I know now that the new model s & x you can only come in left hand drive I was just wondering how long will it be like that? Dean from Milton Keynes
You doing a really good job explaining everything thank you
Well, I picked and have a new Model Y long range vehicle. Right now I would not go with used EV vehicles. They may be good, but preferred my new vehicle. My model Y now has the HW4 and newer qual cameras. I also wanted dual motor AWD and the nice hatchback style vehicle. I didn't need 7 seats for my Model Y. I charge mainly at home, so Supercharging is a mood point for me. The model X bat winged doors really don't impress me and they are only for the back seat passengers, not on the drivers doors. The thing with used EV vehicles, we are always wondering how well the vehicle charges up and what mile ranges we would get being used. Not sure of what we are getting being used and having allot of miles on them. Thanks for the video and take care.
220 miles range isn’t great. And the 100D in my experience doesn’t do much better, maybe another 20 or 30 miles at most. I owned one for 3 years. Also it’s perhaps too big for British roads. It is a very big car, too big for the country lanes where I live which is why I sold it in the end. But very relaxed to drive on motorways and dual lane carriageways, so long as range anxiety doesn’t kick in. The driver display and more normal controls are a definite advantage over the Y, and free charging would take a lot of the sting out of the low range with fuel and energy prices through the roof these days. Plus of course the falcon wing doors are super cool and surprisingly practical.
My dad complained about the speedo being essentially offset to the side. Then we got in his Trans Am...which he races at the strip every season. To which he had added an aftermarket speedo and other instruments above the dash...sitting in the exact same position. He didn't get why I was chuckling at him.
When you sat in the back and moved the middle row forward why did the driver seat move forward to? I hope that doesn’t happen, as you compromise the drivers comfort and could be dangerous
I want the MY with the old style MX dash assembly( non-yoke wheel, both screens, etc.), without the structural battery( I don't wanna deal with failing inspection, cuz of some crack in a part that costs 20k € to replace and 30 day limit to get it done until it becomes illegal to drive), and make the rear more boxy( so one doesn't have to be a kid or midget to fit in the back comfortably and for more practical boot space) infact just replace the whole body with a van for maximum practicality, cuz IDC what it looks like. It's not like I'm gonna have/want to spend more than 10s looking at it every time I need to use it anyways. :)
I think it would have been worth pointing out that all the settings, from the position of the air vents, temperature, general driving preferences all change to each individual drivers preferences in exactly the same way that other manufacturers change the position of the steering wheel and electric seats in other cars. This means that once set to your liking you are far less likely to need to adjust things like the air vents in the first place. In fact, I think the only thing you might have to change when you get in the car after your partner has driven it is the rear view mirror.
I usually don't keep the air vents the same way, sometimes I want to cool my legs, body or head more than the rest of my body, many cars when you have more airflow in the upper region there is a vent that keeps blowing on my hand(s) on the steering wheel which makes it too cold after a while also, so I am constantly changing settings, not every minute ofc, but that one setting for me would suffice is a no :P
Great vlog and comparison. I’d say the X for comfort but I’m thinking the Y is a bit smaller and more suited for our smaller parking bays. Always wanted to know - on the X if you park n a multi storey car park. Can you still get out the rear falcon doors ? Best wishes
Most multi-storeys are fine actually.
Leaning toward a used 2017 X over a used 2021-2022 Y. Repair cost on the X are keeping me on the fence. I’ve read and seen videos on some early model Xs.
I think Id go for the Model X
I have an opportunity for a model X Free Suc from december 2016. My average driving is around 42000 miles/ year. To be honest I would prefer the new Y when it comes abour reliability, warranty etc... But the Free Suc is really an amazing gift. I read there are some tires and gimbals problems on the X too... Not easy after all ))
No one ever mentions that the middle row of seats in the Model X 6 seater don’t fold at all. They slide forward and tip a bit if you need to carry a long load but you don’t get much extra length and there’s an annoying constant warning that the middle row seats aren’t locked in position. Why don’t manufacturers ever look at the Renault Espace before they design people/load carriers?!
I'd love a 5 (or 7) seat Model X with free Supercharging. Wouldn't want the 6 seater as two rear passenger seats don't fold. Without the bonus of free charging I'd take the Model Y every time.
MX is a brilliant car for the Driver and the front passenger. In the second and third row seats, visibility is bad. That’s where the MY excels with the all glass roof.
Hiya just wondering when we will see the new model s & x plaid?
My current and first Tesla is a Model X. I test drove the newest Model X, then priced a slightly used one. Went with the 2021. My first road trip was over 749 miles ( US) each way. It was unbelievably comfortable. I’m a personal n who likes speed so I’m not too terribly concerned about efficiency. After all I came out of a 2008 RR Sport supercharger. The Y is nice, but it doesn’t compare. Also I love my automatic door feature.
Have a model X loaner and YP normally. The X ride and quality feels much better as you would expect. I do like the smaller Y for the sportier feel. For the same money give me a new Y. If money is no object take the X.
If it weren't for the fact that one cannot install roof bars on the X, I would prefer to pay the extra cash, or even get a second hand. But the issue about roof rack non-compatibility is a deal breaker.
The model Y (if cheaper, maybe used) would eventually be one of the best vehicles for our industry. Cheers
Why do Tesla owners always have their maps in google earth mode? (Not visually helpful as a map). Switch it to map view ffs and make use of that big screen.
Nice video. I've got a late 2018 Model X which has free non transferable supercharging. I've aways said I'll keep it until it breaks due to the free supecharging, but to be honest the amount I'd save in home charging of the Model Y due to it's better efficiency would probably negate that. The one thing I don't want to give up though is that front windscreen. I love it and wheneve I get in any other car it just doesn't feel as nice without that sense of space and light that the windscreen provides.
I’m due to buy a 2018 model x with 5600 miles. You had any issues ?
@@mrbrownsexclusive5650 Nothing major. I had issues with my heater under warranty, the charging port and the camber on the wheels needed adjusting. Other than that no, it's been pretty good if not quite excellent.
When I need to charge vehicles for my work on a journey I get out my laptop do other work. I’d always take the option of free charging and like you say in other videos, you just lump your toilet and coffee break in anyway too and you don’t really feel like your waiting long when your putting all these things in to use time.
We bought a MYLR 19inch rims - 1st batch into UK - Feb 2022. Loved the car. Hated the low booming resonance in the cabin from the harsh suspension. Gave 1/3rd of passengers headaches & nausea. Tesla said "It's a characteristic of the car" swop it thru' Black Horse Finance. BHF refused. Sold in July for price we paid Tesla. Big disappointment. Bought 2017 Model X P100DL 21kmiles (heated + cooled seats, free supercharging & connectivity for life + 3 year 3rd party warranty - crazy if you don't IMHO). Just been thru month of hassle of MCU 2 & CCS & Radio upgrades =£3.5k (vital so negotiated off purchase price) + front drive shafts + door sensor =£1.5k (vibration on accel & Falcon Wing door wouldn't raise fully - fixed under 3rd party warranty) + windscreen - wiper blade had collapsed & v badly scratched it (on insurance @ excess £115) =£2.2k. Ended up with brilliant, 6 seater car that family love, is so easy to load grandkids into child seats, goes like snuff, fun doors, air suspension, can cross Europe for free @ 3miles/kWhr (who cares?) vs her Model 3LR accel boost @ 4m/kWhr on home solar & paid supercharging. What's not to love? Now it's reported that Tesla have improved MY suspension issue. But, can't persuade Her Indoors to change to a Model Y - she says "No need now. You've got a Model X family car & I'd rather still have a very fast sports car" So, cancelled Model X Plaid reservation & she's got Model 3 Perf on order instead. Hassle to go through but, worth it.
Have done 12 hr roadtrips in my plaid x with a family of five and I camt imagine going any smaller
Great video as always, waiting for you to review the new cheaper version of the Y, is it worth an extra 6K for duel motor??
I’d have the rwd. I don’t need 4 wheel drive and the red model 3s are my favourite as the front end is lighter and steering and feel of car is better…
@@RSEV Thank you, your opinion means a lot to me. Great channel.
I had the same quandry. I bottled it 3 years ago and got a M3 RWD SR+ instead of the AWD. The RWD shoves your forward and the AWD pulls you forward - it is quite a different thing. Even the RWD goes like stink, I put a very annoyed Bentley Continental coupe back in his box last Thursday. Range? I have never had range anxiety but I do drive like a Monk with his right foot missing (so my wife says). If you keep it below 60 and don't race Bentleys then my M3 SR+ is easily capable of 290+ miles in summer minus aircon. The only other thing, and to my mind the most important thing - is I did not realise there are OTHER DIFFERENCES with the SR+. For example, it did not have an active Sub woofer (and it cannot be retrofitted) plus not all the speakers are wired up though there are kits to rectify. It may not have things like front fog lamps (probably just a a differentiator). So I suggest you check the full list of differences! I also suspect the MY RWD will come with LFP and not LION batteries. There are pluses and minuses to this - but I may not be correct about this. Whatever version you opt for - it's going to be MIGHTY! Good Luck!
I replaced a X5 MSPORT with a MY. It’s incredible.. I love it ! But would jump at an Model X, if I could afford one
Me too - X is a real work of engineering art. BMW better get their finger out, they are already being out sold 2-1 in the USA by Tesla.
@@ouethojlkjn BMW will be bankrupt, like Mercedes they struggle to develop new EV’s from existing ice car revenue.
