This guy really did it all didn’t he?
Dustin Byfuglien, or "Big Buff," a player who redefined what it means to be a professional NHL player, both on and off the ice. Unlike some players who change their personas over time, Byfuglien remained true to himself throughout his NHL career. Off the ice, he was known for his fun, hilarious personality-a gentle giant. On the ice, however, he transformed into "Big Buff," a wrecking ball of a hockey player unlike any the NHL had seen before or since. #nhl #chicagoblackhawks #winnipegjets #dustinbyfuglien
What was your favourite Big Buff moment?👀
the amount of times he was able to take on two guys at once is crazy
When he repeatedly ragdolled Pronger in the 2010 Cup finals. Pronger had been bullying all previous opponents until he ran into Big Buff. This physical duel between those two giants pretty much set the tone for the finals, no more bullying by Prongs.
The usual ones but also telling Laine to "Keep skating boy, skate!"
I thought my fav. Big Buff moment(s) were when he just grabbed a couple of players by the scruff and spun them around. Then, I openly started laughing at the 3:17 of this video, where he just demolished a couple of guys. So, thanks for the video!
Gazdic.
I saw Buff play a number of times in Winnipeg. What struck me was when he was on the ice the opposing team were very careful about not taking cheap shots on the Winnipeg elite players. They knew there would be a hefty price paid if Buff was pissed off. He was a force on the ice and much loved in Winnipeg. His Jersey still sells well in Winnipeg. Much loved and respected to this day. He’s on my Allstar Team of the great ones. Cheers Buff, happy fishing.
NHL is so lucky he didn’t care about hockey
Bro that's a serious understatement..its a scary thought to imagine what he would have been like had he dedicated himself to hockey year round year after year..those games of him manhandling 2 guys at the same time at the nhl level is something we'll never see again. 265 pound monster who could literally do it all..when his motor was running he was unstoppable, only problem is that it was only here and there..
He was already a menace, a wrecking ball, pretty good skater, physical and had a nose for big plays. If he dedicated himself similar to how we see Bedard do it or even half of that? He would have had the possibility of being an all timer
The other players anyway.
Seabrook was my favorite player of this era, but I always had my eye on Dustin during the games. Great player.
@anthonydangelo3980 Actually Zadorov will still man handle two men at once so its not completely gone thankfully. Gotta say hes been so damn fun to watch especially in the playoffs. So damn happy the Canuckd picked him up hes worth every penny
You forgot to add that he almost wasn't allowed into Canada due to getting a boating DUI right before the first training camp in Winnipeg.
My brother skates with Buff every week. He weighs well over 325 pounds. He lives in Minnesota. He fishes and hunts all of the time. Loves his beer. Smells like it on the ice as well. Hopefully he starts taking care of himself.
It sounds like he's living the dream to me
Can’t believe he actually skates weekly.
This actually made me cry. I miss him so much, boys.
beautiful
Excellent video! #33 will hang from our rafters someday for sure! Buff was a man among boys on the ice. Have fun fishing buddy, you earned it. Manitoba loves you so don’t be a stranger 👊
imagine Byfuglien ragdolling both Tkachuks at the same time
One hellova visual right there 😂😂
😂😂😂
He is the most popular athlete in Winnipeg sports history.
Teemu Selanne and Dale Hawerchuk, but current Jets, absolutely
Buf has the most Canadian life path of any American in history.
As a Jets fan, I think there could still come a time when the Jets miss him, such as if they were to meet the Rangers in the final and need someone to knock Rempe down a notch. Can you say ... no contest?
Buff & Lucic were my favorite players. Give Rempe 3-4 years to fully grow into his body, get into his prime, add another 20+ lbs and he will be the next Buff. I can't wait!! LGR!!!!!
Rip lucic
This was an awesome mini documentary man. Youre content continues to be great, I cant understand how you dont have more subs yet but im sure itll happen eventually
Best moments of my life watching big buff with the hawks!!! Hockey misses u buff!! There will never be another 💯
As a Flyers fan I've nothing but respect for Byfuglien's game. He was as much a menace as anyone in that cup final. He isn't a regular d-man playing forward either. He was as good or better than a lot of guys that claim to be power forwards. I do think Ramsey was right putting back on the back-end as well. It was fun watching him, hoping he enjoys retirement. Solid player, good team guy, pretty different guy nit the weirdest but definitely a unique guy.
This guy was irreplaceable
One of my absolute favorite hockey players of all time.
Dude, this was a great video, thank you!
I know nothing at all about hockey but that clip of that dude trying to fight Byfuglien and him literally seeming not to even notice is too good.
This Buff guys alright. takes alot to impress me , I'm impressed. Good Character.
Everyone in Chicago will always love big buff!
Bro: What’s NHL? 😂
I recently saw buffy at my local rink. He came in for a men’s tournament and tried to walk through the zam room to which after telling him he had to walk around instead of walk through everyone had let me know I just told one of the coolest and hard hitting nhl players he couldn’t come through 😂
Aye man keep making content, I clicked on this video not looking at your subscriber count and really just assumed you had at least six figures based on the quality of work
You still see folks wearing his jersey in Chicago and why wouldn’t you. My favorite was his hat trick during our cup run
I was lucky enough to see him as a hawks fan and as an Atlanta native as well as Marian Hossa, both incredible players in completely different ways
Also the phrase “as well as babe Ruth or Phil kessel” is kinda crazy
6'5" 265-290? Dude was the same size as Lesner fighting for the UFC title.
He seemed more like 6-3 watching him his whole career but now they say 6-5
@@alexjones6190You're on that grade A fetty if you think big buff was only 6'3
The league is simply not the same without big buff.
As a Winnipeg Jets fan I miss the guy... He demand respect as a present on the ice and that's what I like about him... Present on and off the Ice.. 😎
He was definitely worth the price of a ticket.
Ill moss his play ! Fun to watch jes just a player that could do it all and he did ! Definitely miss him ! Best of luck in your future endeavors Dustin !
Couldn’t do 80% of these hits in todays nhl sadly
Great Player' good personality' Really a likable man' was sorry that his career came to an end so soon'
He was definitely a powerhouse in the ahl ,he didn’t even look like he was trying and he did well
when you finish a hockey fight dropping a leg drop with two ref holding him back your just GG WP
The Man. The Myth. The Legend. There will never be another.
Loved having him down in Atlanta
One of my all timers
Evandet Kane is a tough player who is never afraid to throw hands. Pretty sure part of the reason Buff tossed the track suit is he didn't want Evander confronted by anyone he might swing at.
Didn't he come into training camp one year at 300 lbs or something? I always loved that dude.
As a Minnesota fan, God i miss him.
3:19 😂😂
"Off the ice, he was known for his fun, hilarious personality-a gentle giant." Don't scare me like that with the "was" talk. You had me thinking he was dead 😧
Weird. I never heard of this Beast!!
The man blocked 500+ pounds with momentum from going into his goalie single handed
No way, he played for PG Cougars? Lol
I think the Thrashers were a symptom of being so far south....ultimately.
Best hands on a enforcer ever
One of very few guys who makes Lucic look small.
Duncan Keith is such a beaut
Now he is coaching his son where I went to school.
Buff has the stuff...nuff said.
With Crawford in nets wow watta a goalie
As a Wild fan, this guy haunts me. Truly a freak of nature
Hilarious/weird Buff story was him starting a conversation with in the pisser (of all places) during the playoffs when he was Hawk at a bar a lot of NHLers go to in Vancouver. He went off about how shitty bars are in Vancouver, and he’s probably not wrong. For some reason, I was scared. 😅 Almost forgot about that interaction until I saw the question.
2:18 is spot on...
The part where 2 vancouver players grab him and then realize who it was and quickly let go 😂
The Jets have not recovered from the loss of Big Buff
He spent his entire salary on a lamboghini and had to eat maccaroni and cheese in his first year to survive.
Go jets go
well Maurice Richard is a hell of a studd to
*was
👍 Big Buff
Still missed and will always be missed in Winnipeg.
hiim and mcsorley best #33s ever
Any time I see 33 in the real world, like receipts, cars, trains, stores, buildings, whatever, I think of McSorley 😄 This has been a thing for me for a long ass time. Maybe it's connected to my OCD
The cougars brought chara to the nhl and big buff and many more nhl players they’re in the playoffs rn I’m from Prince George
It's confOrm to someone's expectations and not confIRm. Doesn't he remind you of Mario Lemieux's style of playing?
What X factors do you think dustin would have in 2024?
Big Rig, Unstoppable Force, Truculence, Off the Rush.
everything; size, soft hands, ability to take out your goon and then score the game winner
Biggest loss out of anybody for the hawks 2010 team.
26 million in Canada. 53% tax bracket. Ouch buff
Buff was the best!
With a different mental makeup he would be a first ballot HOFer
Go cougars go
The salary cap really fucked the Blackhawks. We had to get rid of him right after the first Stanley Cup.
At least you won before you had to trade him away, unlike what's probably going to happen to Marner this summer before the Leafs get to win a cup.
What is wrong with the number 33 and heavy hitter there’s him and Chara
Other heavy hitters wearing #33 besides Byfuglien and Chara: Wade Belak, Ken Belanger, Eric Cairns, Al Iafrate, David Koci, Steve MacIntyre, Jim McKenzie, Marty McSorley, Brantt Myhres, Krzysztof Oliwa, Reid Simpson
well thats not to shaby, from the NCAA to Canada wow what an upgrade from the NCAA haha legendary.. Canadas Juniors league is the 2nd best hockey league in the world
Imagine Shea Weber and Dustin on the same team hahaha lol no one would hit them
Never heard of the guy... GO PHILLY 😢😭😪🤮
Hes not 6-5 lol
Seems like he only played to make money so he could hunt and fish
Also, this may sound racist-but it is not....so far in the south a team needs more players "of color". Its not a bad thing. It is a fact of our civic life. the NHL can push back into Atlanta later. ID politics and social aspects are not bad if still a bit sad. It will happen and I suspect sooner than we think :)
why even make this a thing
Marginal player at best
some gotta be THAT guy :)
That makes you a marginal fan for sure.. the guy was a beast
Great player, amazing hitter, but a pretty mediocre fighter. That’s one part of his game that fans tend to not remember correctly and exaggerate about.
