  • How about the elephant in the room? Mercedes explicitly excluded the development of Android auto from the Ultra wide screens, leaving the horrible "Android Auto" black box empty. As a result, 1/3 of the screen is a black frame. It is a known issue and MB will just do nothing about it.

    @Composites83@Composites83 Жыл бұрын
    • I wish it was full screen too but there are other manufacturers who have come across the same issue before. The reason is because MBUX (also known as NTG 6) on Mercedes is available in two screen sizes, 7” & 10.25”. When designing and coding I’m led to believe that you can only choose one (to maintain compatibility) for everything. So to make sure it works on all models, Mercedes of course had to go with the 7” version, which is perfect for 7” owners but of course leads to a cropped experience if you have a 10.25” screen. NTG 7 found in some new cars have higher faster processors and have one screen size leading to a full screen experience on Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Hope that explains potentially why it’s like that on some cars!

    • @@npoleary This sounds like regression comparatively to the COMAND interface, seeing as it is possible to have AA in full screen for it. Pessimistically, I'd say that the reason is in part to Mercedes having a desire for the end user to user their paid navigation system, which naturally, utilizes the entire screen. Another take from the software standpoint is due to the positioning of the messages, home, and back buttons (as well as the inside temperature), they need to leave enough room. Either way, it's pretty disappointing, and if purely software, it could clearly be remedied.

  • Hi Nick, love your videos! Have you heard anything regarding a split screen for the MBUX system? I have an A Class with a 10" infotainment screen, so this would easily cope. Most less expensive European car brands (MG, KIA) are now being produced with 'tile' infotainment systems, so Mercedes-Benz are lagging behind here in my opinion.

    @marklockley385@marklockley385 Жыл бұрын
    • Hey Mark, thank you! No not heard of that before. But on most cars you have an option. Apple CarPlay can do split screen so that could be an option if you have that in your car? 🤓

    • @@npoleary Thanks Nick. You need to put a word in then 😁. I'm an Android user, and although Android Auto has recently been updated to a tile format, it unfortunately doesn't use the whole infotainment screen, so looks odd. Not sure if Apple CarPlay does either, unless you know?

      @marklockley385@marklockley385 Жыл бұрын
    • Yes Apple CarPlay is cropped too to allow for the various screen sizes in MBUX. There’s 7” and 10.25” screens so it’ll follow the 7” screen route.

  • Nice informative video! I've never actually had the chance to play around with Android Auto, but I'm getting a new aftermarket radio installed that has it built-in. Random question for you: I usually drive around to places with my girlfriend, and we both sort of alternate hooking up our phones (both are Android) to the car radio over Bluetooth. Is there an easy way for Android Auto to switch between different phones?

    @Matrix803@Matrix8037 ай бұрын
    • Thank you! It depends on the car’s User Interface or in your case the aftermarket radio. It depends on the software that’s on the aftermarket radio of how easy it is to swap phones. At the very least, it should have a device manager of some description when you can swap phones or choose a primary phone or something.

  • Google maps are updated more frequently than maps on the Mercedes Nav system which usually gets updated yearly and at times, every 2 years or longer and even then, still missing some pertinent information. Google maps are up to date and already have live traffic. Google maps also have satellite view unlike the maps on Mercedes built in maps. Unfortunately, Android auto doesn't fill the entire screen which is the one downside of the system as compared to Apple Car Play. There are third party stand alone MMI boxes that use the connection to your car and your phone connects wirelessly. Those MMI boxes utilize the entire screen

As I have an EQC, a big plus for Mercedes navigation is the Electric integration, which links with Mercedes Me Charge as well. Google Maps is rubbish for finding charging points. As an aside, the big app for finding chargepoints is of course ZapMap - this has an Apple Carplay and AA option, but sadly only by paid monthly subscription.

Sadly they had no wisdom to offer on this issue. I've tried many different leads to connect but no joy. Apple play does appear as an option on the screen but I can't see android auto. I'm leaving the car in for service this week and wanted some direction to see if I can solve this before asking them to try again. Many thanks.

    @DirkPelgrims@DirkPelgrims Жыл бұрын
    • Hey Dirk, I wish it was full screen too but there are other manufacturers who have come across the same issue before. • Depends on the specification! It’s not standard equipment sadly! If you have a new car with MBUX, (with the Hey Mercedes voice assistant) then you can add it via the Mercedes me store

  • I can't get down with this. Especially when the video says "you're not allowed to touch your phone at all when driving, so you can text with voice" Then says "you just tap text messages" I plugged my phone into my car this week to have a look and see if android auto is better than the built in infotainment system. It wasn't. Google maps was horrid compared to the systems own navigation. And i had zero interest in any other feature. Why do so many people want access to their phone when driving? Surely its just a distraction?
