Lyrics:
I wanted you to know I love the way you laugh
I want to hold you high and steal your pain away
I keep your photograph, and I know it serves me well
I want to hold you high and steal your pain
'Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel right when you've gone away
You've gone away
You don't feel me here anymore
The worst is over now and we can breathe again
I want to hold you high, and steal my pain away
There's so much left to learn, and no one left to fight
I want to hold you high and steal your pain
'Cause I'm broken when I'm open
And I don't feel like I am strong enough
'Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel right when you're gone away
'Cause I'm broken when I'm open
And I don't feel like I am strong enough
'Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel right when you're gone away
'Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel right when you're gone away
You've gone away
You don't feel me here anymore

  • The ending is the most important part of the song. Amy is literally speaking to him through the wall and he is just numb giving her nothing but at the same time feels the same way she does. This is the kiss of death for many relationships not knowing how to communicate so you stay broken because in some way it’s easier than the possibility of the feeling of rejection. Probably the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen in a music video.

    • I'm 65 and I still love this song. It takes me back to when I heard it the first time. Evanescence is one of my favorite bands. Music like this keeps me young at heart, and with 8 grandkids, they are always introducing me to newer stuff, just like I introduce them to the music from back in the day, like the blues, jazz, soul, country, rock & roll, the list goes on and on. I always tell people that I have 3 types of favorite music , 1) Stevie Ray Vaughan, 2) Bonnie Raitt (who I believe are twin flames, or both sides of the same coin...so to speak), and 3) Everything else. 😉 Music can speak volumes for you when you don't have the right words to express how you feel inside. 😘

    • Maria lwom Bubblegum pop acts have taken over the music industry, so little attention is given to some really amazing bands that are much more deserving of recognition. I have been lucky enough to see & befriend many local acts that are completely amazing, so much talent, so much passion for the music, deserving of recognition, & they have huge followings & treat their fans right. Many of these bands have fans that follow them to out of town gigs too. There's also the issue of music execs that want bands to change this or that, be more pop friendly, use this song bcuz "I said so..." & it doesn't match their sound, so bands don't sign those once in a lifetime contracts due to corporate bs & wanting to stay authentic & unique...They love the music more than they want the fame...which is exactly how it should be. Too many acts give in & allow the promise of fame & fortune to not only change their musical stylings, but their look & who they are on the inside. It's a complete shit show sometimes. It messes people up in horrible ways.

Thank god everyday for everything and a chance to change my life.

Thanks to his book, I am able to find the roots of my suffer and am working toward living peace with it. When someone has an addiction, instead of pointing a finger at that person, perhaps we should ask that person what had happened to them. I hope you will continue to fight hard to stay clean. Heal and be at peace with yourself.

  • "Cause I am broken when I'm open and I don't feel like I am strong enough. Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome and I don't feel right when you're gone away" This is very true for so many people with attachment wounding, where being close and being alone both feel painful and threatening. Not feeling strong enough to show yourself truly and not fall apart in shame and fear in the process also reminds me of what a person with C-PTSD might experience. Both heartbreaking states to be in. Being a human is tough.

    • @@terrellsmith6715 I think there is plenty of talent, the music industry right now is oversaturated with sameness, garbage pop music and easy crap to produce. They took the easy road and produce horrible mainstream music (overall) with rock still having a lot of exceptions including Seether, though they self produce I'm fairly sure now. With fake drum samples and overproduction the life is sapped out of much of the industry these days. And songwriting is taking a backseat to mediocre and easy music.
