••• ABOUT THIS VIDEO •••
Location: Protected Island - Central Denmark.
I am back on the protected island - this time to photograph the badger family there. During the day the light is very hard and there are absolutely no activity around the badgers' set.
My only chance is to get up before sunrise and then be in position again a few hours before sunset.
The wind is a challenge though because it has changed direction. Usually it is from West but this time it is straight east. It forces me to stay in the photo blind which is not the best position at this time of the year with the many ferns.
The photo blind is great as a scent blocker which I am talking about in the behind the scenes.
••• WHO I AM •••
My name is Morten Hilmer and I am a professional nature and wildlife photographer.
I work as a ILCP photographer, and nature conservation is very close to my heart.
I have served in the Danish military special unit, the Sirius Patrol, for two years and that has given me the skills and confidence to operate alone in the arctic regions. I have spent two further years in the northern parts of Greenland meeting the local people and working on photography projects. My driving force is a sense of adventure and my fascination for nature, and my curiosity and empathy for other cultures has led me to many remote regions.

Beside being featured in publications and in my books books my photographs have been awarded in the Wildlife photographer of the year and European Wildlife photographer of the year photo competitions.

I really enjoy how he respects the natural sound of it's environment, thank you.
Sméagol the cat wanted to join in. So true when you are waiting for a animal to come you do get into the zone even when you don't get a photo you come away so relaxed
I get so much peace from watching these videos.. Thank you, Morten.
I really liked the capture where the badgers whiskers were highlighted by the sunlight, what a peaceful place Morten.
Sméagol is hilarious. Even if you think this trip went poorly, I think some of these badger shots were the best ones yet. Excellent work
badgers are so beautiful and magical2
I love the way you approach them
Great cat!!! Wonderful badger pictures!!!
These videos shut the chaos of my mind and make me get lost in the peace of nature❤️
Thank you for showing how beautiful nature is. I hope people would protect nature and environment and the climate more. Nature and animals are the only ones in this whole universe who are completely innocent and sacred.
The badgers picked a spot for their den that is good for them but hard for a photographer. The pictures you did get are beautiful. I enjoyed your video and the behind the scenes bit with Smeagol. 😁
Lots of information I can use in this video, thank you. It was also really nice to see your cat again!
Morten Hilmer' I am your huge fan
Sméagol is a great addition to this video. The badger shots were some of your the best ones yet. Enjoy your videos - thank you!
Awesome video and photography!
Beautiful video Morten. Nice photos of Badgers and all nature in the little island👍👍. I really like your field table, it looks like the last FRAGO Order before the real military action 😉😉 Greetings from Slovakia. Best regards VideoHunter.
This video is like a meditation 🧘♀️.
Some beautiful images and great hints and tips. Thanks for taking us along Morten. 👍
Great info Morten. I now have the location of three badger setts in our forest. Will use a blind this spring to observe them. I hope to post a badger episode on my channel before June. See you out there!
I don't know how you do it Morten, those badger images are so good they really trigger an emotion in me and make me want to walk straight out the door with my camera! I really wish I had your skill and patience, it doesn't take long for me to get bored and start looking around for another spot.
Your photos of the badgers brought tears to my eyes. It is obvious that you respect them and all nature. Your cat is very handsome. I really enjoy the live camera on your property. I have learned quite a bit from the live chat. Thank you for that. Hello from New York, 🇺🇸.
Hi Morten, it's been a while and I'm on catchup with your Vlogs as I've been away quite a bit but this was the perfect way to get back in touch with your work, loved it nice and relaxing and a joy to watch. Thanks again, Richard 👍
Great Badger and macro Photography video, thanks for sharing
Great, as always ! Thanks very much Morten !!
Creative Nature Photography - Visual Wilderness
Thanks for this fantastic video, Morten. We don't have badgers in Northern Norway, so I envy you a bit. The images where amazing. I really like the dark areas/shadows and the sunlight breaching through. 👏
2:35 It's a nice photo.
Thank you, for your explanations and your respectful acting with the Nature and your surroundings

Thanks, Morten. I always look forward to your videos; & appreciate the trouble you go to in explanations.

You nailed them!
Beautiful video, thank you Morten! :) Loved the part about the waiting time that quickly becomes meditation and easily the most relaxing and peaceful part about wildlife photography. I really enjoy it, too :)
Excellent perspective!
watching your videos feels meditation ❤️❤️
You have such a good eye. Thank you.
Always enjoi your video’s thx for sharing your passion
Always the best ❤
Great Video and Photos as usual Morten 👍🏻
Por aqui, apreciando seu belo trabalho!
Fabulous to see, thanks. We've all had minor mistakes spoil a shoot, too. Thanks for the test link.
Deer hunters use a special soap for washing their clothes and bodies to eliminate odours. Stinky boots and socks are a dead giveaway. I have also taken freshly washed clothes and bagged them with whatever plants are in bloom.
wonderful video as always
I really enjoyed the video, nice pictures of the badgers. This video made me want to go out into nature with my camera. Thank you Morten
I love it

Super cute badgers 🤩🤩
Loved the little diagram you made with the sticks to explain the wind. Sméagol was stealing the show in the behind the scenes though 😉😊
I was just about to comment that :) you were faster
Beautiful video as always. Love from Indonesia. That's cat is cute btw.
I really enjoy your vedio
The island looks so much more vibrant than your last visit, such a beautiful tranquil place. You did get some lovely photos of the badgers too and the macro shots of the flowers. I always learn so much from your videos. I will have to re-watch the behind the scenes though because I was watching the kitty so not paying attention 😊 😀
What is the name of this island?
PARABÉNS 👍👍👍 PELO SEU TRABALHO EXCELENTE , e PELO VÍDEO MARAVILHOSO UM ABRAÇO PRA TI DO BRASIL ❤️🌹👍👍
Nice footage! Greetings from Germany!
Excellent. You demonstrated the difference between just a shot of an accidental badger for someone's checklist - look I saw a badger and took a photo of it - versus getting well lit beautiful shots. It's all in what some Brits call PPPPPP. By the way, when you browse your photos on your smartphone, how do you zoom in and "turn pages"? Now imagine your beautiful Z camera can do that too. PPPPPP - Prior Preparation Prevents Piss-Poor Performance. The pleonasm is intended - to highlight that many people only prepare after the fact and "the earlier, the better".
Mortan sir please help I'm addicted to your video What an amazing content you put 💯😌
Parabéns
What a dream job 😍😍😍
Yaa ❤️ i am waiting
Have you tried the Carinthia Observer as a foto blind? They are completely waterproof, really well made and very low profile, works well combined with camouflage netting etc. Great Video as ever! :)
Today´s best 22 Minutes...
Much love, from Bangladesh
I hope the dog and the cat get extra treats for their appearance indoor excellent videos.
Maybe time to design your own photo blind and have it made properly Morten, I'm certain they would sell? Love the badger shots. 👍🇬🇧
I've been photographing badgers since the 1970's and rarely have problems with them reacting to my scent. I never use mosquito repellent nor aftershave etc, and I think this may be one of factors causing problems with Morten's badger watches. Sometimes I climb a high tree directly above a main entrance, and this is a great way to avoid the badgers detecting the photographer. But more often I sit directly on the ground close to an active set entrance (I never use blinds because badgers have very poor sight), but prefer much shorter lenses in the 135mm to 200mm telephoto range. This means that you need to be closer to the badgers, but often they will get used to your personal scent, especially if you visit the sets regularly. Another great way to obtain different shots away from sets, is to sett up the cameras close to a well-used badger trail or stream crossing. Or a badger play area/rubbing posts which is often a large fallen log within 100m of the main set.
Big fan❤️❤️❤️
The past few years I have used an ozone generator to kill my scent while in my photo blind. I was the last person that would think they really work, but they do. It more stuff to carry in your pack and more batteries to charge but it's worth it. Good luck...
Badgers are so neat! The greenery at this location is so beautiful! It looks like the forests that I photograph in! It’s so pretty!! If you don’t mind me asking, what brand of tripod are you using in this video? I use a much taller tripod but sometimes it’s nice to have a smaller and shorter tripod. Thanks Gracie
にゃんこ可愛い
como siempre, excelente video y fotos, pero me hubiera gustado que pongas la opción para subtítulos :,(
thanks you video good
Nice
Placing insect repellent on the back of the hand, then spreading it, leaves the palms and fingers free of the material.. This keeps one from spreading the repellent onto the cameras, lenses, and other objects. Your hands are also able to grab a snack without leaving chemicals on the food or drink.
That is actually a really good point. Thanks for the great advice 👍
Hi Morten. Awesome video blogs as always and thank you for sharing. One question on your gear setup relating to your video head. What conversion plate are you using from Manfrotto-ArcaSwiss ?
Thanks a lot. I can’t see any names on the plate. It is basically just an arca plate screwed on the manfrotto one
jeg er stor fan morten. det er kanon det du laver.
I love your cat. So Cute ❤
👍👍👍
Cute cat 😍
Nice video... well done again, Morten! Do you have an issue with ticks in your forests up there as well? I was more afraid of them than a rushing wild boar!
Thank you so much. I rarely get the ticks😀
Big fan from Bangladesh 🇧🇩
Beautiful😍.. Wjat is the name of this island?
Love ♥️ from India 🇮🇳
❤️😀
💪💪💪❤
badgers! i wish there were badgers here in Alaska. But bears will do. Maybe someday I'll see a wolverine - have you ever photographed wolverine, Morten?
Bears are wonderful. Lucky you 👍 Yes I have photographed wolverines in Finland.
Nice video, Like 1249 and Bye from Italy :)
