(omg this is a lot longer than I wanted it to be sorry) *For everyone who has literally no idea wtf is going on and cares to catch up:* here’s what DEMA actually IS (from what I understand so far). Dema is a society run by an organization also called Dema. The organization consists of the 9 bishops (who are dressed in red) and one of them is named Nico. Nico is thought to be the bishop seen in the Jumpsuit music video and also Blurryface. The bishops control the districts of Dema, where they limit the creativity and freedom of the people living there by making them do simple things and live simple lives. This is why the people living there are shown doing the same things, wearing the same clothes, living in the same houses, etc. This is how the Dema organization is controlling them. Basically Tyler realizes that he does not want to be controlled by Dema and needs to be different in order to do what he wants and be successful. In order to be different, he would have to leave Dema which is why he attempted to escape (as he was shown in a trench outside of Dema in the Jumpsuit music video). Nico (or Blurryface) realizes that he has left Dema and catches up to Tyler by riding on a horse and capturing him in the trench. The other people in yellow (including Josh) are called Banditos. The Banditos are thought to be people that lived in Dema at one point but successfully escaped. Yellow represents the good color and is what is used to protect themselves from the bad (red). This is also why they threw down the yellow flower pedals in the Jumpsuit music video as if to support Tyler to continue trying to break away from Dema and Nico/Blurryface. Nico ends up taking Tyler back to Dema but Josh and the Banditos are now determined to help him escape. Tyler packs up his things and is ready to leave by himself but then sees the Banditos. He realizes that the only way they can escape is if they work together. That’s why Josh starts playing the drums and Tyler starts singing into a microphone. It creates a disturbance and goes against what the Dema organization wants because twenty one pilots music is very creative and different. This helps them break free and Tyler leaves with the Banditos to escape Dema. Personally, I think Dema is one big metaphor for the music industry trying to be very simple and plain and trying to get artists to go a long with what is popular or what their record label is telling them to do. It’s like they’re trapped and being controlled. At the same time I also think it’s about Tyler escaping his insecurities about his music and just letting them as a band be different because that’s what makes them happy and that’s how they’re successful. Sorry this was so long, but if you go back and look at the lyrics to Nico And The Niners and Jumpsuit they’ll probably make a lot more sense. (This is definitely a concept/story album 😉)

Its nice to see someone else who knows wtf is going on. I spent like 3 days just going through all their songs and clancy's journal just trying to figure stuff out. 21 pilots by far are one of the best bands because of what they're doing with their songs. You can literally take more meanings out of their songs then you could ever with other songs nowadays. You can take in the meaning of them creating a whole new story or you can take in a simple meaning, tho some of there songs are easier to take that simple meaning than others. I'm pretty sure everyone that listens to them can appreciate all the meanings they make.

You know, songs of this album and it's theme in general become more meaningful then ever, when there's a war in your country. "They wanna make you forget", "We'll win but not everyone will get out". Ironic how several years ago I was just singing these words, not understanding their meaning. But now I really do. If some ukrainians reading this comment, stay strong. We'll win.

I think the real order of the music videos is: 1. Heavydirtysoul 2. Jumpsuit 3. Levitate 4. Nico and the Niners This might seem confusing at first since the order in which they were released was Heavydirtysoul, Jumpsuit, Nico and The Niners, and then Levitate, but I think this isn't the actual order of events. Here are some of my reasons for thinking this is the right order: - The jumpsuits: Tyler finds a plain green jumpsuit in the back of the Heavydirtysoul burning car. Then he is seen in the same jumpsuit throughout the rest of the Jumpsuit video (plain green). Then in Nico and The Niners, the Banditos give Tyler a camouflage jumpsuit with yellow tape already on it (he later leaves this behind for the people of Dema to find). This means that Levitate has to come before NATN as it is in this video when the Banditos place the tape on the camo jumpsuit. - The flowers: Tyler first sees the flowers in the Jumpsuit video (he looks down at them) and takes one with him (laying down with it while the Bishop drags him back to Dema). The next time we see the flowers are in the NATN video but now there are more of them. We already know that Tyler's first escape was symbolized through him walking away from the burning car in Jumpsuit and finding his jumpsuit in the trunk. So, we can assume that the first flower in the drawer came from the events in Jumpsuit (the first escape) and the rest from other escapes taking place after Jumpsuit but before NATN, one of which taking place in Levitate. The Banditos: The Banditos first appear in the Jumpsuit video which we can assume is Tyler's first contact with them as this is his first escape from Dema. There are escapes had in between the events of Jumpsuit and Levitate. Levitate shows Tyler and the Banditos during one of these escapes and how they live outside of Dema where they are free. It is also here where Tyler gets the camo jumpsuit and the tape is placed onto it. At the end of Levitate, Tyler is dragged away AGAIN back to Dema by a Bishop. Back at Dema, he makes for another escape with the help of the Banditos. At this point, they know each other very well as Josh and Tyler do their handshake and perform their song together. - Dema clothes: There is a required dress code at Dema, everyone must dress the same/ similarly in grey or black clothing. In Heavydirtsoul, Tyler wears a black button-up shirt, the same one we also see in the beginning and end clips of Jumpsuit. He finds the plain green jumpsuit and wears it overtop through the main events in Jumpsuit. Once Tyler is captured and brought back to Dema, he can no longer wear the Jumpsuit (as it is different and everyone must dress the same). We see Tyler without the jumpsuit after escaping in Levitate and when he is preparing for another escape in NATN. The plain green jumpsuit likely got taken away by the Bishops after one of the escapes between Jumpsuit and Levitate and Tyler is given a new camo one with yellow tape. So with all this in mind, the events of these Dema videos would unfold like so: - Tyler makes his first escape from Dema as he walks away from the burning car previously driven by the Bishop (Heavydirtysoul & Jumpsuit) - Tyler finds the plain green jumpsuit (Jumpsuit) - Tyler begins his trek through Trench now with the green jumpsuit (Jumpsuit) - Tyler gets taken back to Dema by the bishop with a yellow flower (Jumpsuit) - There are many more escapes made in between now with the help of the Banditos. For every escape, Tyler places another flower in the drawer (this process isn't shown but we see the resulting flowers in the NATN video) - The plain green jumpsuit is likely taken away by Bishops (not shown) - Tyler and the Banditos band together for more escapes. They give him the new camo jumpsuit and place the yellow tape on it (Levitate) - Tyler gets taken again back to Dema by a Bishop (Levitate) - Tyler places a flower for his new escape in the drawer and starts to pack for another escape (NATN) - Tyler meets up with Josh and the Banditos and they make yet another escape (NATN) - The camo jumpsuit with the yellow tape is left behind for the people of Dema, telling them to escape (NATN) One remaining question is: what does this mean? Why is the order of these videos even relevant to the rest of Trench? I think that this loop of escaping over and over again symbolizes that sometimes it is hard to become free of the things that have controlled your life for so long. If Trench is depression or anxiety or just anything in your life you are trying to escape from, then most of you know that it takes a lot to get better and most times you do not stay better. Tyler (and all of us) have to keep escaping over and over again, even if we know that we might not stay happy or okay. But the point is that we keep trying. We have to keep trying to get better and stay okay and stay alive. Lucky for us though, we are not alone. The Banditos are all of us along with Tyler and Josh. We all know the things we are struggling with and we can all help each other out. It is a loop of trying to overcome or escape the dark parts of your life, you own Demas, and finding ways to recover and be okay like in Trench, with loving people by your side. Hoped this made sense cause I think this is a beautiful metaphor. Please reply if you agree, have more evidence, or if you feel like the order is something else entirely. Stay alive guys ll-//.
Lumi's Heart and other Black Holes How do we tell who the good guys are? Why does everyone but Tyler wear masks? Does anyone even speak? His hair, facial cuts and clothing aren't consistent from video to video or even within the same video. Oh and the Heathens video is part of this too.

This song in particular has spoke to me for so long now. Everytime I revisit I'm in awe. I don't know that others have a spiritual interpretation of it like I do but this is a fantastic creative expression.
