    • Katie, I recommend you come back in your next video and clarify what you mean by scam. Scamming someone denotes dishonesty, lies, putting something over on someone to take advantage. Using the word scam is serious. I understand that those items with the lower price are the older items but I am not sure. Did you ask someone there to find out why there is a difference in price? Did you call the head office? You should find out the reason first before defaming a brand name like Hobby Lobby. It is one thing to tell people to check the prices but to imply that something else sneaky is going on, is another. Please get back to us once you have more info. Thank you!!

  • Last year we had a Hobby Lobby open in my suburb. I was so excited! My first visit, I went up and down every aisle, amazed at the variety of items they carried. I really didn’t need anything, but I picked up a bunch of stuff that I thought was on sale or clearance. When I got home, I compared the receipt to the items I bought and found some items that I thought were on sale but was charged the full price. A few of those were way overpriced and I would never had bought them at full price. So back to the store I went. It was very easy to return the items, they just ask if there’s anything wrong with the item. I told the cashier I thought the signs said they were on sale and he told me I was mistaken, only some were on sale. While I was there, another customer was complaining to the cashier that the items she was buying were on sale and they were ringing up full price. Her cashier told her she was mistaken. That customer actually went and retrieved the sale sign and showed the cashier and the cashier told her her chosen items were NEXT TO the sale items, but they were NOT on sale. She had the cashier remove the full priced items and only purchased the ones that were ringing up on sale, all the while complaining that these items were all together on the same shelf and they were trying to fool customers into buying the full priced items. That’s exactly how I felt as well. I haven’t been back since and as pissed as that other customer was when she left, I doubt she ever set foot back in that store either. I know a lot of people don’t pay attention to how things are ringing up and they lose their receipts in the car on the way home, and have no idea they paid $29 for one item and $49 for the exact same item, so Hobby Lobby gets away with that. Certainly not good customer service.

  • I previously worked as an Assistant Buyer for a couple of major retailers. This situation is a major red flag that the store managers, district managers, corporate retail buyers, and sales analysts aren't properly communicating with each other. Either they should have reticketed the lower priced items to match the higher priced items...or they should have scheduled the higher priced merchandise to arrive in-store after the lower priced items sold out. The only time it is appropriate for the exact same items to be at 2 different prices at the same time is when something is damaged, yet still sellable, or when the item is perishable and near expiration date...so the older items still on the selling floor would be marked down 50% -75% off regular price.

I don't think it's a scam, I think the one in front came in earlier at a less expensive price point, and the one in back came in later at a higher price point. Instead of marking the one in front up, they leave it at the cheaper price. The higher price point will be what it will be after the cheaper ones are out of stock.

    • Good point! I also feel like it could be since they hand mark everything, it is a good way to mark things down as they’ve sat on the shelf a while. By the time the front items have sold at a higher price, it’s time to get the back items out to make room for new items. The lower price helps them to do that without looking at each individual item in the store and marking random things down daily. I don’t work at Hobby Lobby or anything but this is my guess! And that’s why Christian music plays in their store instead of rock. I’ve seen this same thing at places like Ross’s. The first comes in at one price and the next one comes in two weeks at a different price. Ross’s prices depend on how long it has been in the store. Saying this is a scam is a little detrimental. • I actually work at hobby lobby. Currently we have a ton of items that the prices are dropping. I know, as I’ve spent DAYS marking down products. All identical products are supposed to be marked the same. Each week we get a list of price changes that we are supposed to take care of. However sometimes we are so busy we just aren’t able to get to them all. Sometimes items are returned after price changes have been done & it isn’t noticed that the returned item is a different price when it’s put back on the shelf. Any cashier who sees identical items, with the same item number, at different prices should be ringing them up at the lower price. And as far as the sales signs go, people need to read the signs. It clearly explains which items, which category, is on sale & which is not. Hobby Lobby is not trying to scam anyone. It’s a sore run by people. And every single item gets keyed in, not scanned. We even offer price adjustments if an item you purchase goes on sale within 10 days of your purchase.

I will say that I was disappointed in my local HL in their Easter decor. Easter is the day we celebrate Jesus (the perfect lamb) taking on all our sins and shame and then defeating Satan and rising from the dead. I have nothing against bunnies and put a few around the house at Easter time, but I was disappointed to see that my HL looked like every other store in my area. I have been a retail store manager for 22 years and my company sells the same goods year over year...but each year that same item increases in price. Hobby Lobby's flaw is that their items have the retail price marked on the tag, which is why you find those differences in price. Most companies have a "price policy," which means they (we) have to honor the price marked, regardless of the actual current retail. When I bought it to the cashier’s attention she told me what ever the price tag said that was the price , it was a mess with my purchase I spent over $400 and told her if it doesn’t ring up on sale I don’t want it so she had a pile of items to go restock

    • Regardless of the reason, this practice needs to be corrected. Say a person may notice a basket for 7.99 and 12.99, they take the lower price basket, 5 minutes later someone sees the basket and because there is only one left, purchases it at the higher price. When I come across something like this, I think I'll ask to speak to a manager and see what they say.

  • I did a video showing a Hobby Lobby haul , and was shocked when I was going through the seed beads to find four different prices. They ranged from $2.99 up to $4.49 a tube. I got as many of the $2.99 tubes as I could in the colors I use and then picked up the other ones I needed in the higher prices. When I got up to the front I made sure that I put them in the categories so that I wouldn’t get charged the highest price for all of them but they didn’t give me a deal I paid what was on each tube, not the lowest price for all of them. Since I did that video I’ve seen other people talking about this on KZhead, so I was really interested to watch your video as well! I had no idea it was so widespread! I hope people are paying attention to prices when they’re picking things up because if can make a huge difference !!

  • WOW! First thing; thank you for sharing this information with all of us Katie! I just became a customer of Hobby Lobby a few months ago. I cannot believe the price differences! I can understand it may be due to price increases on items in the store, but 100% markup is just an OUTRAGE!!! Yes, I still have a budget to follow, even in this store!!! I will more than likely stop shopping here! It is so awful how the "Big Boys" in the office demand these price increases! The more popular items will be the ones go up 100% because they know the public wants these specific finds! Hobby Lobby may lose a lot of business over this! SAD!

  • I knew someone who worked there for a little bit. Some of these are huge differences, but what they said happens is that since hobby lobby doesn’t have barcodes, the inflated price is printed on the label and the before inflation price is still on the shelf. When they worked there, they would honor the before inflated tagged item, but would have to honor the inflated tag too.

  • I gave you a thumbs down since you threw Hobby Lobby under the bus. When new shipments come in and the items cost more in the next shipment, Hobby Lobby has 2 choices: 1. Raise the prices of the items on the floor to match the new incoming prices of the same items. Which by the way is what most stores do to you 2. Let people still buy the items that have come in at the lower price. Hobby Lobby like all stores have the option of what to do. They chose to save their customers money and you labeled them as a scam. Shame on you. Why didn’t you find a store manager and ask them why. This is how great stores get a bad name. People putting junk on KZhead without getting the facts. I think you owe Hobby Lobby an apology.😢

  • Hobby Lobby is NOT scamming anyone. In my experience, they are honorable and fair. However, like all retailers, over the past couple years they have experienced cost of goods inflation and it's been necessary to increase prices. Consequently, the same item might have two prices if there is old stock and new stock on the shelf. Also, Hobby Lobby does not price the goods at the store level. The supplier to Hobby Lobby puts the price label on the goods directly. Bottom line: NO scam. But buy the lower priced items if you can! 🙂

If you don't like the prices then just wait for the sale or just don't shop there... no need to be awful and mean about it, the prices at Hobby Lobby are very reasonable if you shop on the sale days. 😉
