The 2023 Ballon d’Or is up for grabs this week, with Lionel Messi the firm favourite to pick up his 8th trophy from the France Football Magazine following his World Cup 2022 victory.
Erling Haaland is also in the running after a superb debut season with Manchester City, winning the treble while scoring a staggering 52 goals across all competitions.
But JJ Bull believes someone else should be in the running. Just who is that player, and how deep does the conspiracy go against them never having won it?

KDB should be in contention for the Ballon d’Or title ! Infact he should win it! I'd argue that last Rodri's last season was phenomenal too. He won it all, with City and Spain (Nations League) and he was incredible every match, leading the team along with Kevin. He was outstanding, and more crucial to the results than Halaand himself, I'd say (Rodri scored the winning goal against Inter whereas Halaand couldn't score neither in the semis or final missing many chances). I hate that some players are overlooked just bc they aren't too hyped by the media. What's missing from KDB is that he doesn't score goals often. I am not saying he needs to score like Haaland, but he should be atleast scoring a goal every 2 or 3 games for him to stay relevant and a couple of big goals in big tournaments really helps! As you said the problem is he's consistently good, that's why we overlook him. So in order to break that, he needs to be outstanding now and then for him to standout. Another reason he needs to stay fit and play all the games. Whenever we think of City losing the UCL final to chelsea we get the picture of KDB getting injured and crying. That image needs to change!
I think the difference is Man city has the best coach and money investment into the right players, while only winning big time in England, but not so much in the champions league like Real madrid. On the other Side Belgium fails every tournament.
Real Madrid away UCL semi-final was an absolutely massive goal and, aside from Rodri's obviously, maybe the most important in City's UCL charge. PSG in his first season at City to take them to their first semi. PSG in 2021 to go to the UCL final. Put Brazil away in 2018 with a goal in the quarters. 2 against Arsenal to end their title charge last year. 2 absolutely cracking goals against Spurs and Chelsea from distance. He scores a goal in about every 4 games in his career. In 2022 he had 19 in 45. This is all ignoring he's the best passer in world football IMO and averages an assist every other game as well. Staying fit, okay, I think that's a fair argument.
No, sorry to break it for you but kdb is already scoring a lot for a midfield playmaker aside from creating chances and assisting he got all the requirements except for the world cup

He’s absolutely dominated the biggest competition in football at the World Cup though. That has always (rightly or wrongly) counted for something… I mean, Modric won a Ballon D’or for his World Cup performance, and he wasn’t as good as Messi in this last one, nor did he win it. Messi really should’ve won that year based on his individual performances alone. So I have no problem with him winning this year. The man basically completed football whilst having more expectations on him than arguably any footballer going into a World Cup, and should rightly be recognised for it.
@@Buffaluffasaurus Modric didn’t win just because of his World Cup performance. He also won a champions league that year and another trophy I think

I agree with this, the problem is the criteria changes every year. If it was for ‘the best player performances’ regardless of their team performances then Messi would be on about ten or eleven tbh. Only years I can pick out where he wasn’t were probably 2013 (got injured for a large chunk), 2014 was not great, 2017 I honestly believe Neymar was probably more influential and Cristiano had a great year, 2020 was underwhelming then year moved to PSG struggled. @@richhornie7000 91 goals yea? Are you saying Messi won the Ballon d'or for his goalscoring record 11 years ago? 😂 The Balloj d'or is about individual achievement. Messi won a world cup, and a dodgy one at that, but at club level he's been utterly below par.
@@DenDave_ he literally has better goal contribution per match than Haaland, way more dribbles, key passes, MOTM. Why anyone could even think this is robbery. He doesn't ghost and suddenly won World Cup you know. He contributes and a lot of that too. Don't forget Haaland ghosted in the finals he was in while Messi scored 2 in the most important final in football.
It's been confirmed by numerous reputable sources Messi will get the Ballon Dor this year and in my opinion well deserved people can say whatever they want but based on individual performance Messi was the best Haaland scored more goals but was missing in important matches not to mention he's proven he's very co dependent on KDB and without him feeding him goals is useless my opinion but congratulations 🎉 Messi 🥰
Because the ballon d'or isn't primarily for player with the most goals and assists although Messi had the 2nd highest G/A in Europe last seasaon, in fact the award is for the best player who shined the most during big tournaments, it always has been, remember R9 winning it in 2002 while barely even playing football? He won it because of the WC and people didn't flinch when he was awarded, it was natural, if it was based on G/A Messi would've had 10 already, if it was based on who is the best player purely from an eye test perspective (the way it was before stats became the most important thing) Messi would've had more than 10, the only way you can argue for Haalnd are goals and consistency but everything else points to Messi.@@ariongovender6049
@@ariongovender6049far better? I don't think Mbappe was much better at PSG then Messi was.
@@ariongovender6049 yeah, he really wasn't. Messi was vital to PSG's creative buildup last year.
JJ… Top notch work sir. Tifo has been missing some pure randomness.
This explains how the balon do is just a big pr award and doesn't actually represent who the best players are
As a united fan, it's gotta be haaland. First season in the pl and he was utterly unreal,
yeah, I'm a United fan n all, and I'd give it to that Cyborg Goal Monster as well.
Mask on: Hey, I’m a United fan… Mask off: Hey, I’m a Ronaldo fan…
@@gabrielokenwa6196 ah yes. Different opinion = biased
world cup > premier league
@@amacuro 12 months of football >>> 1 month of football
Th annoying thing for me is that if the roles were switched and Messi won the treble, no way would Haaland win the Ballon d’or even if he won the WC for Norway. It’s all agenda.
That's going to be a Tifo IRL classic.
Hey what do you guys use for the tactic/pitch app? I've been searching for it but can't find it!
Messi, that it. The world cup winner gets more highlighted that champions League winner
People need to understand that the ballon d'or isn't focused solely on who was the best player that year and it hasn't been that way for a long time now. Messi will get it because that's how it works.
Watching JJ is like watching a ballon dor winner at work
ANTONY, with that turning-go-nowhere skill! HAHAHA!
What else does Haaland has to do. This will be grossly unfair
Don't ghost in the big games.
Qualify for the WC, Win the WC or any other major international competitions, Become decisive in big games.
Not play for "115 charges" city
Without Haaland city would've been favourites in all competitions. He joined the best team in the World. He did the same numbers in dortmund and no one said he deserved a Ballon d'or with dortmund. So stop crying, Haalands time will come.
He needs to win a World Cup and also needs to score in the last few stages on the Champions League. He kind of disappeared from the CL last season towards the end.
Im a Liverpool fan, but Haaland should win it no doubt. Look at all his achievements. Messi scored 5 penalties in world cup that was rigged for him and will still win it. Disgrace
Someone's crying
Cry more
Stop crying, u still have to save some tears for when he wins it on Monday
Damn I see a river there!
All these replys from city haters because they destroyed your club last season
Hard cut at the end was so good
Could you make a video on Ipswich,Leicester, and Southampton tactics this season?
I love all the presenters on this channel but JJ is extremely entertaining and brings a very good vibe.
Nice Chaotic energy in that one
one of the funniest tifo vids, instant classic
This is how serious analysis meets comedy. If I am down in my life, I think of JJ.
