A raw and honest coming-of-age story for this generation. Jenna Ortega and Maddie Ziegler star in Megan Park’s directorial debut. #TheFallout - coming soon.
“The Fallout” is a compelling exploration of the inexplicable resiliency of life and the hope that emerges out of loss. Megan Park’s feature screenwriting and directing debut won both the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award for Narrative Feature at the 2021 SXSW Film Festival, while also garnering Park the festival’s Brightcove Illumination Award for her screenplay.
Bolstered by new friendships forged under sudden and tragic circumstances, high schooler Vada (Jenna Ortega) begins to reinvent herself, while re-evaluating her relationships with her family, friends and her view of the world. Moving away from her comfortable family routine, she starts taking chances with a series of quicksilver decisions that test her own boundaries and push her in new directions. As she spends more time with Mia (Maddie Ziegler), they grow closer, and Vada slowly redefines herself through their shared experiences, leading her further away from that day and closer to living her life in the now.
The film stars Jenna Ortega (“Scream,” “You,” “Yes Day”), Maddie Ziegler (“West Side Story,” “Music”), Niles Fitch (TV’s “This Is Us,” “Roman J. Israel, Esq.”), Will Ropp (“The Way Back,” “The Sex Lives of College Girls”), with John Ortiz (“Ad Astra,” “Bumblebee”) and Julie Bowen (TV’s “Modern Family,” “Hubie Halloween”) and Shailene Woodley (“Big Little Lies,” “The Divergent Series”).
Megan Park directed the film from her own screenplay. Shaun Sanghani, Todd Lundbohm, David Brown, Rebecca Miller, Cara Shine, Joannie Burstein and Giulia Prenna produced, with Christina Lundbohm, Greg Young, Mark Andrews and Stephanie Denton executive producing.
Park’s creative team included director of photography Kristen Correl (“Ad Astra”), production designer Justin Dragonas (TV’s “Vital Signs”), editor Jennifer Lee (“The Skeleton Twins”) and costume designer Tasha Goldthwait (“An American Pickle”), with original score by Finneas O’Connell (“No Time to Die”) and Peymon Maskan (“Into the Blue”) serving as music supervisor. The soundtrack also features an original song written and performed by Maisy Stella & Lennon Stella.

    • Yeah but the movie should’ve been based on the survivors who were in the class/hall where the shooting happened. Not two students who were in the bathroom (the safest place in the school) and didn’t even see anything . They shouldn’t even be traumatized

    • @@sihledlamz7440 Your comment demonstrates a fundamental misunderstanding of what trauma is. Anyone who is affected by gun violence can be - and often is - affected by trauma. Even those not in the building where a shooting has taken place can be traumatised by it; vicarious trauma is real and tangible, and trauma is not necessarily about what is sensed or witnessed but the survivor's experience of what is happening. Even if someone is not in immediate, life-threatening danger (which those two characters are, but that's besides the point), if they believe that they are in immediate, life-threatening danger, they can be traumatised by that event. That's not to mention the traumatic major life changes and grief that anyone in a community affected by these events will experience. To say someone 'shouldn't even be traumatised' by this kind of event is not only ignorant but genuinely sickening. Please develop some empathy and read about what trauma actually is rather than spreading profoundly insensitive misinformation.

  • To me, from the UK it’s crazy, my cousin was in the class where a teacher got stabbed to death but that is like a once in a lifetime thing, this happens multiple times a year in USA and it’s crazy, something needs to change, people are bullied, victimised and treat unfairly all around the world, it’s so wrong but yet in America is where kids shoot up schools, it rarely happens elsewhere so clearly something is wrong and needs to change there. Much love and support to all the unfortunate victims families and the survivors of these tragic events.

    • This is so true. From the UK this looks ludicrous, imagine sending your child to school and every day not knowing if they’ll be coming back from there. I don’t understand why guns are even legal in America, this should really be changed. In the UK we have idiots running around with knifes, imagine if they had easy access to guns too! Hyde park would’ve been a death zone so many times and on a way larger scale. The stabbing a would turn into shootings…. This is not okay.

  • This hurts to watch. I am only half way through my school year and have been forced to hear about false threats multiple times now. I had to report something I heard from a student because of excessive bullying, and then find out a threat was made by a boy in one of my classes. I knew this boy since elementary school- although we were never close. Students don't take drills seriously, and it makes me afraid. Threats are made every which way now, and it is desensitizing the severity of this problem. The only way this problem can truly be fixed is if both parties put in effort change, and as a whole children have not. It makes me sick.

    • I agree with the part that students take it seriously. In my school, during a school shooting drill, one of the kids decided to crawl around on the floor, going under from desk to desk and making weird hissing and barking noises too. Edit: Spelling

    • this had NOTHING to do with war... wow ppl REALLY need to watch more movies to actually get behind the meaning of movies... just because you were in a war.. doesnt this movie is about war... the world doesnt not revolve around you nor a war right now.

    • @@anarchistbunny3339 He didn't say this movie was about war anyway you fre3k.. He said that the trauma and fear felt only during wartime were similar, and tried to explain that he experienced this not just one day, but every day.If you can't understand this, it means your brain cells have decreased...

  • That young woman can act. Outstanding. Brave roles, comedy you name it. Talent, all around talent. She has her head on straight too. She could be a great one like Streep. Very real.

  • They had an anniversary interview with the people and kids that were at the Sandy Hook shooting and it breaks your hearts to hear those kids speak. I personally would stay at school somedays and even go to detention if I didn't have to just so I wouldn't have to go home and deal with stuff there. School is supposed to be the one of the two places you can feel safe. It's awful to think that's not true anymore.
