In this video I create 5 spell effects for Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition using mostly hot glue. This are all cheap and accessible builds that can be translated to many different spells.

    • Just so you know, if your book falls apart again reach out to wizards support! Send them some pictures of the damage and give them the info they ask for and they'll send you a replacement! My old players handbook fell apart awhile ago with the same issue of pages just falling out and they sent me a brand new one! Didn't even ask for the old one back. So I have a nice one and one that I try to not loose any pages of!

    • @Knight Oezaxs Yea, I've actually already done that for both my PH and MM. They will replace any first printing because of a known glue binding issue. They never made me send them in, just photos, so I still have my damaged copies as backups that I let get beaten up in backpacks and whatnot. I've already repaired them a few times with contact cement, and those repairs have all held well. This is a new chunk that had fallen out and I figured why not try hot glue while I was doing this.

    • @@DragonsBane78 I'm not sure if the link will post or not, but if it doesn't: Google "replacing 5e players handbook" and look for the webpage where Wizards explains the process. It'll basically boil down to you taking pictures and e-mailing them with an explanation of what's happening and your shipping info. When they've got everything confirmed, they'll send you a confirmation e-mail with shipping information for a new players handbook. • That photo of DM Scotty kissing his hot glue gun really made me flinch; burnt lips and glued hair :O The spell effects are really great. The Fireball effect got me thinking that you could use ascertone to melt out the foam ball, leaving the hot glue as a dome. You could then place the flame effect over an electric tealight.

  • I dont know if you would use this tip very often but I figured I would share when I saw you having trouble getting the label off the coke bottle. I home brew beer and hate buying bottles so I repurpose ones whenever I can. Getting the label off can be a pain and I found that using a brewing cleanser called B-Brite is great for removing labels. The best method I have come across is to put the bottles in the dishwasher and use the B-Brite instead of your usual detergent. The hot water along with the cleanser dissolves most glues and the labels fall off with little to no scraping. You probably wouldnt use it on bottles very often for your craft but it may come in handy for removing decals off plastic toys that you want to repurpose.

    @mattf9096@mattf90964 жыл бұрын
    • Lighter fluid (like Zippo) is also amazing at getting glue residue and labels off. It dissolves the glue no problem. And after you're done cleaning, it will evaporate, leaving no smell or extra flammability.

    • Petrol/gasoline works great too

    • Acetone also works, though is fumey. You can get it very very cheap from a hardware store, or a bit more expensive/lower quality as nail polish remover. Acetone-free nail polish remover exists because the acetone would dissolve the adhesive of false nails. Isopropyl alcohol works too, but it's a lot milder and takes longer.

  • I learned the hard way: The reason he uses parchment paper and not wax paper for the first two spell effects is that hot glue binds VERY well to wax paper. You can pull the wax paper off the back, but you'll be picking it out from between the edges. This technique worked REALLY well for me, except for where I failed to follow instructions. Great video.

  • What I learned in effects school to make "quick and easy" icicles was to hang a length of fishing line from the ceiling and then carefully drizzle hot glue down it. Once it cools you can peel it off the fishing line

  • For the flaming sphere: you could try to stick parchment paper round the glass jar to keep the shape, but use tape to stick it. That way, you can just remove it and peel the paper off.

  • Amazing ideas and builds! One thing I think might give the Black Tentacles an even better look would be a little dark purple dry brush or wash to give it a bit of variation and shading. Also if you want to remove labels from bottles, try submerging the bottle in a tub of water and letting it soak for a few hours to overnight. I've done this many times with glass bottles, and I believe it should work for plastic as well. Keep being awesome!

  • The old hot glue to repair your book trick works quite well. I have an old Bible that was falling apart on me and I used a very basic Dollar Store glue gun to fix it and it worked a treat. Your glue and gun are far superior to mine, so I would think your results should be even better than mine.

  • I love all your ideas that give me ideas as well, enjoy watching your videos. The Cloud of Daggers is actually a 2 inch square. It creates a 5 ft cube from each side from center of origin so that would make it a 2 inch square, and not just a 1 inch cube. And your Magic Circle to prevent the soda bottle from warping to much just do it in small sections at a time and allowing it to cool before doing the next section, working 2 or 3 inches at a time. That way it prevents it from warping as much or use the smaller of the two since the smaller one doesnt get as hot as the bigger hot glue gun does. Especially if you dont have these special temperature control type of guns.

I really like the flocking though, I'll have to try that on the next one. Hotglue spell effects are the jam, lol. My groups most used spell seems to be moonbeam, so I also made a 1" diameter hot glue circle and teased the edges while it was still hot to give it texture. I then painted the bottom white and the top with a semi-translucent irridecent pearl paint. It's been a hit with our Druids and having a guide on the table can really help a DM judge just who is within range. ;)

  • Those Spell Effects are great ! The flaming sphere is absolutely amazing and i think i´m gonna give it a shot for the games we play. Have you considered making more spell effects for other popular spells ? I would really like to see how darkness, fog cloud, a wall of fire, a wall of force, a wall of light or a force cage would be made with these techniques. Thank you again for this video and maybe your consideration for doing another video (and perhaps with the suggested spells ^^ ).

  • Very cool, those glue guns look awesome. I bet you could do some cool stuff with Ice Storm as well!

  • If you had some 4 inch bases you could've used them to keep the Magic Circle more circular while applying the hot glue.

  • Here is a tip I discovered by accident. Test out Gorilla Glue White Pen. When you spread it out it foams up and drys hard with a oozing appearance. It actually acts like "expanding foam", just in miniature scale. Then paint it to whatever colored effect you want.

  • The cylinder or magical energy could have been painted fairly easy using acrylic ink and an airbrush which would have given you a nice translucent effect. The runes you might want to print on a piece of paper and then cut them out and tape it to the piece and spray paint the runes. Just my two cents on otherwise another great video. Thank you for sharing!

  • If you have an issue separating hot glue from anything, use rubbing alcohol it will release it without any ripping.

  • Use alcohol or IPA to remove hot glue from the glass. As soon as it flows between the glass and the glue, it almost falls down by itself. Works with almost all surfaces as long as it does not melt the surface
