Using some easy techniques to safely clean a rusty hydraulic piston. My hoist sat outside near the ocean for 6 months and developed a coat of rust on the surface of the bare piston. I clean it up and have a smooth surface and a working hydraulic cylinder.
Thanks for watching, and please leave any questions or comments on this project in the comments!

That is quite the technique you have there. Its like you have greased a pole or two before... "compress and push firmly as your stroke"
I baught one of these in 2007 it has ben sitting outside since then it realy needs cleaned up 🤣
I don't why, But the stroking action looks familiar to me.
WD 40 and a Kerosene Mixture with 4/0 Steel Wool, does well also
It's not chrome plated or stainless, thus it will rust. Now retract the cylinder fully, to protect it from moisture. I disconnect the ram end so I can retract the rod, then keep it out of the weather. Yes, it's inconvenient but necessary.
I think you'd be better off removing the piston and inverting it. Then get some metal polish and use a strip of cloth to buff it.
