  • The phrase "strait as an arrow", doesn't refer to how strait it flies, but how strait the arrow actually is.

  • Fun Fact: There are robots in Greek Mythology. Hephestus's forge assistants. So it's technically possible for Odysius to have been a robot, provided his son was adopted or also created artificially.

  • I would have used the cross bow and the compound bow, but they might have been pressed for time.

  • I was actually at the yearly championship at my archery club last night! I managed to split an arrow at a distance of 18 meters. I've only done it ONCE before in the 6 months I've been practicing.

  • Could have only been better if they would have Lars Andersen try the shot, this guy does things that I would also consider impossible. Like shooting around corners, shooting multiple arrows in less than 1 second accuratly, splitting arrows aimed at a sword or shooting down oncoming arrows. Wont say it would have made a difference, just would have been fun to see him try it.

    • I don't think there's anyone outside of an Olympic archer who does martial arts on the side and is well known for having AMAZING breath control and stupidly stable hands who could pull off that shot.

  • i had a Lithium batterie explode inside a small tablet i was using . i had shut it off an sat it on a bench near my garden an about 30 min later i herd a bang looked up an my bench was on fire an bits of tablet was all over the yard . it was 100F with a heat index of 112 so im not sure if that was the main reason why it went up like that . as for the impossible arrow shot . people in an around here in northeast oklahoma have been trying that for fun for years until this was done on mythbusters jr i thought it would never be done . great show

    • Originally I thought you were talking about one of the experiments with a complex safety setup. Then I checked the time code you gave. Wearing safety glasses when working with a homebrew setup with parts under tension is a bare minimum. Tamara should have been wearing a long sleeve shirt of heavy fabric. I.e. this is the one time they have less than ideal protection.

  • First Point: What they are calling the “Archer’s Paradox”, that is that an arrow flexes around the bow, is not the paradox. The paradox is that, with a bow where the arrow shelf/rest is not cut to centre, the arrow will be pointing off to the side of where the arrow will hit the target after being released. It is not the flexing of the arrow around the bow. Second point: There are six factors that will determine how straight an arrow will fly. Five are variable. They are wind, air resistance, bow weight, arrow weight and arrow imperfections (think of uneven or damaged fletchings). One is not. That is gravity. And it is gravity that will always affect an arrow and cause an arrow to drop vertically, hence never fly in a straight line. Using a lighter arrow and/or a higher poundage bow can make an arrow travel faster thus reducing the time to travel to the target and reducing the time that gravity has to act on the arrow. Less time means less drop and the appearance of being flat/straight. A head wind, or tail wind will lengthen or reduce the time an arrow takes to reach the target thus increasing or decreasing the time gravity affects the arrow. Air resistance is essentially the arrow having to push aside the air in front of it. Denser air offers a greater amount of air to push aside thus slowing the arrow down more. Damaged fletching, be it a feather or a plastic vane, will affect the flight of the arrow causing it to fly erratically. I haven’t mentioned a cross wind as that will affect the arrow in a horizontal direction and is not relevant to how gravity affects the arrow, but a cross wind will cause an arrow's flight to the target to be a curve. Now most of the above variables will cause flight paths that one will not see or detect. However, the fact remains that the arrow is not flying straight. I admit that the above content is rather long and pedantic, but it is this: this whole video about an arrow flying straight is a moot point as arrows never fly straight.

  • back in them days they used 1/2 inch shaft arrows not 1/4 inch shaft they don't flex as much as modern day arrows so it would have been easier to do.
