How Deepfakes are changing the face of Entertainment

The topic of deepfakes has been widely discussed over the past few years. The technology behind them, based on machine learning and AI, has obviously struck a cord of concern in many people, which has remained consistent throughout the multiple waves of attention the news cycles has given the phenomenon. The latest of such waves came along with a TikTok account of a fake Tom Cruise, which pushes the possibilities of deepfake technology the furthest we've seen yet. Should you be worried? Are we all doomed if technology can be this deceiving? Let's talk about it.

  • I think deepfakes will definitely benefit the filming industry a bunch. To think that certain actors could basically live on forever in deepfakes is fascinating, I mean movies already backlogged so much data just in case of sudden death during filming, so it would definitely make it easier for them

    @sleepywitchcrafts@sleepywitchcrafts3 жыл бұрын
    • That does bring up certain moral dilemmas, is it moral to keep profitting off of someone who is dead by imitating them possibly forever? Without their direct permission or even if they have the permission of their families. Death is meant to be the final be all and end all but some could live on in media, and not be in control of what they say or do.

      @MrMoon-hy6pn@MrMoon-hy6pn3 жыл бұрын
    • @@MrMoon-hy6pn Ok if your religion says otherwise, thats ok, but death does not have to be the end the person could leave instructions of what to do about them and they may do stuff after death (unless this contradicts your religion, in which only pay attention to the first one. Also I think the actors should say nah or yes on file if that happens, so then they did make the choice, actors who died before the tech is made should not be used.

  • I think it's worth mentioning that the device Alan Turing created: the "Bombe" to decipher Enigma was based upon "Bomba", a machine created by 3 polish mathematicians. I wish it would've gotten a mention, as in the video Andrei simply says "He's the guy who cracked Enigma" and I think that gives him too much credit. The article Andrei cites mentions it very briefly, but doesn't emphasize the importance of their work (and doesn't even refer to them directly, just "Polish mathematicians"), so it's understandble he missed it (or decided it's not important enough to talk about it). Then again, as far as I know (though I'll admit I don't know very much) the people in the comments who give absolutely all credit to the poles and say Turing just ripped them off are wrong. P.S. the mathematicians I'm talking about are Marian Rejewski, Jerzy Różycki and Henryk Zygalski. here are some wikipedia pages if you want to read a bit yourself, you probably should cause I didn't read much either lol. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marian_Rejewski en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bomba_(cryptography)

  • Good thing your artstyle is recognizable and unique so nobody will trick us by deepfaking your art style and claiming it "It's my artstyle". I remember there was a kpop star who got her face deepfake for pœ4n photos and now she had traumatized and depressed, good thing it was officially claim it was not her, I forgot what's her name again lol.

  • People always tend to overestimate the consequences of many things, especially fresh technological advances that may have some malicious use to it. These deepfake dangers will most likely just go by quickly and we'll realize that it was never a problem to begin with. Great video, as always.

  • I think educating yourself on these kinds of things is really important if your going to use them. They can be easily manipulated for bad purposes but with the right motivation and people DeepFake technology could help a lot of people in the film industry, especially animators doing detailed moving landscapes and the like.

  • I'd just like to say that instead of alleviating stress and work on Japanese animators, it would put more out of jobs and maybe even make their pay worse since they are payed by the frame not by the hour.
