Hello guys and gals, it's me Mutahar again! This time we take a look at how one of the most popular and beloved games of the last few months, Helldivers 2 seems to have nuked it's own reputation by forcing a linking of Playstation accounts to the PC, for no good reason. Thanks for watching!

  • The Helldivers 2 community manager hired by Arrowhead to run their Discord is encouraging players to leave negative reviews so they'll have more pull when they go to Sony and say "See? This is a stupid idea." Edit: It worked, Sony pulled back and now the Helldivers subreddit is performing a new campaign to reverse their negative reviews and restore Helldivers 2's reputation. This morning, Helldivers 2 had 45% positive reviews. Now, just a few hours later, it's up to 64%. I expect things will be back to normal in a few days. And that community manager almost lost his job, but just barely landed on his feet.

    • Honestly that was the first thing that came to my mind when a little while ago they announced that they would allow Playstation Trophies on PC version of their games as it to me at least was an indication of Sony trying to rope in PC player base into their Playstation ecosystem and possibly in the future introducing Playstation Plus requirement for their online games on PC, also it helps to overinflate their Playstation user numbers through the PC user base.

I remember Hello Games also got beaten up because Sony pushed them to release the game sooner after the indie studio got hit by a heavy flood. And after the game was heavily dunked, they just abandoned them. Now Arrowhead. Sadly now they got beaten up because of decision made by higher-ups at Sony.

    • Thing is, Russia was part of those supported regions once. But since gamers and regular citizens are to blame for what has happened, they've been pulled out. "Play has no limits" indeed, Sony. And it wasn't just Sony. In a broader picture, this means Sony can pull out literally anyone out of those *actually 69* currently supported regions if anything goes horribly wrong. I also find it hilarious that some of the other European countries, like Lichtenstein & Baltic states aren't on the supported regions list for some reason. I'm just curios how EU let this to slide, but for some reason I've got no doubts that they'll enforce Sony to support the whole EU region after this.

I really hope every developer learns from this and avoids Sony as a partner or publisher going forward. Edit* This really is a case of having the customer sign over the rights to a third party to ban them from a game they bought on Steam. I don't want Sony, a company more censorious than Nintendo for the last decade, to have the ability to lock me out of a Steam game. This change offers nothing to the user, they specifically said the problem they have is the ability to ban steam users, but by forcing you to have a PSN account they can ban you without even asking Steam for permission. • This is one of major reasons why piracy thrives in PC gaming. You want to be a good person and support game developers, you buy the game, but in order to play even a single player you have to use online connection at all time, use launchers that work in the background, on top of that during your gameplay "anti-cheat or anti-piracy" software keeps running in the background scanning your PC and slowing it's performance. Then someone downloads pirated version of the game and voila, no launchers, no 3rd party software running in the background, much better performance and higher FPS, no need to stay online or having internet connection at all. And then Gaming Industry complains and cries about piracy -__- THEY ARE THE REASON PEOPLE GO AFTER IT. I bought Hogwarts Legacy day 1, but due to it's bad performance on PC's in the first two weeks (thanks to denuvo), I played and finished entire game playing on pirated version, wtf is this.

    • It's a fallacy that "supporting devs" comes from buying games. In many situations in life - that's not how financing works. Many companies get paid up front TO develop the game, they OWE money to the publisher. Yes you are helping but you are helping them pay their debts. It's a different thing. It's like - instead of encouraging more of the same from developers (as I'm sure many customers believe their purchases DO) - you are more voting for the management of the studio and putting money down on their continued efforts to... maybe make more games? ... Maybe not? ... HellDivers 2 was not bankrolled by that studio on their own. They have bills, and "support" has little to do with that math.

"But other companies like Ubisoft have account requirements all the time" but yeah, that's the thing, it's well established, and with a Ubisoft or EA account, you can play a lot of games, but a PS acc doesn't have those options which makes it NOT worth the security risk. And with a Microsoft account, that has a million goddamn uses at this point, so you get tons of mileage. You get none of that with Playstation. I'm not annoyed by necessarily needing an account for certain games, IF there's good cause. This does NOT have good cause and is needlessly putting so much as risk.

  • 6:04 fun fact, I scanned that QR code, and it logged me into my old account I didn't want to log into because I accidentally made it a family account when I was in middle school. It never gave me a choice of which one of my two accounts to log into. Helldivers 2 also did not have a function for me to switch accounts OR unlink the account, and the only way for me to delete a PSN account was to sit through Customer Support on the phone for 3 hours to get them to do it for me. That process SCREAMS to me that Sony is an outdated company, and the fact they get hacked further supports that. I had to PURCHASE and INSTALL a completely different Sony game to switch my accounts, AND I THINK IT DIDN'T WORK! Thankfully Steam's policies allow for refunds. Can we get a f***ing break? We just want to have fun...

    • Conveniences are accidents And inconveniences have purpose. That they have a very crippled customer service just like everything is because they want you to just buy the game again instead of going through all that pain in the a.

  • Chances are the people still playing are the ones wanting to play as much as they can before the linking becomes mandatory, which is when they'll leave

  • A lot of people keep playing in hopes of Sony backing off and making it optional because they enjoy it and they've made friends there. You're 100% correct on the lie being told about safety and Sony and the devs defending this move need to own up to the truth. Every time they say "it's for safety" they insult everyone who isn't a moron.

    • 100% this. I won't be fooled by the whole "totally innocent development studio being forced to make all its bad choices by the big bad publisher," shtick after Bungie pulled it so many times. Let's not pretend like Helldivers 2 doesn't have glaring issues at the gameplay level that players admit to overlooking due to their goodwill and earnest hope the game will improve.

    • I feel like most people are still playing until the doomsday timer hits 0. Once they force mandate the PSN linking, I would expect a dip in player base due to it on Steam.
