Don’t Starve Together Beginner’s Guide: Everything You Need to Get through Your First Winter
The first winter in Don't Starve Together is tough on everyone. Deerclops, food scarcity, harder hound waves and the cold provide a challenge for many players but winter doesn't need to be a struggle. In this video I'll show you everything you need to make it through the cold and come out in spring in good shape.

"The eyebrella is a very important item for the upcoming spring" *munch*
yes lol i was just gonna comment that
Came down for this too lol
caught me wildly offguard
New player, already lost 4 runs to the winter but trying to kill mactusk was a good idea! Got the tusk and the hat first try, things are looking a lot better for this run. Hopefully i'll be able to kill the deerclops
did you kill him?
did you kill him?
Did you get killed?
what if he's not talking about the game
did you kill him?
me :playing DST for 700+ hour *seeing it can be repaired by sewing kit* me: WUT?
If I had a dollar for the amount of people that didn't know this, I could quit my job :D
same
seeing it sewing kit Nice pun dude
Wait , is there a sewing kit in don't starve together ?
@@django1484 same, you learn something new everyday! (P.s. yes)
I just LOVE how the game doesn't tell you anything. That's how I died on day 30 milestone. Deerclops materialized out of thin air and started wrecking my shit in the middle of the night. He took out drying racks, my chests, my firepit so I couldn't see, and it was GG not long after. I am so butthurt.
i guess its more realistic then, being as the characters have no clue what to do either
I admire that they don't handhold, it ups the play-time by a lot because you're constantly discovering new shit.
OK but then u start looking up guides so what's the point
You can rollback to prepare, to start a new one to be even more prepared
@@emilbrandwyne5747 some of us didn't watch guidez until after we had played for a fair amount By the time I started watching videos on dst online I had already survived a full year
YOU CAN REPAIR THEREMAL STONES!?!?!?
They dont lose durability till they return to neutral (grey) and a sewing kit will repair it, in dont starve (solo) it has no durability.
I dedicate one icebox to only ice and one icebox for food. I try and fill one totally full of ice during the first winter. This will last for years and is good filler to take to the caves for your icebox down there.
same but i prefer the 2nd winter
I’d like to add that, beyond the walrus tusk and tam, the two blue hounds are also very valuable to farm. I try and get 9 blue gems quickly to transform chester at day 31. While you can also do so at day 51 later, snow chester can really trivialise summer heat if you are carrying him around with 2 thermal stones.
Nice strategy. I rarely ever take Chester anywhere unless I need to carry a lot but having a portable fridge in summer is a good idea.
I never thought about that! Does rely on getting Chester which rarely is a pain
Honestly just become a cave dweller in summer.
Not even struggling with winter and I’m still watching this
You've taught me so much. Thank you!
Great video Mr. Rebuilt
Thanks this is rlly helpful!
Nice I will definitely use it :)
Just wanted to say that all your vids are very very helpful and it was really fun to play the game using the knowledge you have shared. Currently re-watching all of your gameplays and guides because my sister and brother got interested ingame when they saw me playing and asked me to guide them through it as they can't get past winter or the first 10 days. Note in the vid. You said that the eyeball is very useful but you ate it. LMAO
thanks!
Thanks for the help. This game has a bit of a curve.
I'm an expert on dst but still love to watch these tutorial videos, makes me feel like i'm playing for thr first time again
Nice guide
nice content dude
i will send it to my friend
❤️❤❤️ Thank you very much ❤️❤❤️
pls keep them coming! we need more guides from legit people :)
No he steals other people's ideas
Great video
for anyone starting out i think its best to play in Relaxed mode as even when insane you dont get bombarded with nightmare creatures. Then as you get better and better you can play on default settings
I found a beefalo cap near one of the skeletons at early autumn
There is still a lot of folks out there that new to the game or never even lived over winter. I sure hope your video can help them be good cause they kinda dragged experienced player down xD
Also, I had witnessed Mactusk smile and dance after his child and doggie died too. That's kinda scary... He walked towards me and do that animation. (I put toothtrap at their house.)
This game can be quite sinister sometimes, like when Tallbirds mercilessly kill their children.
Nice content
Love the vids.. A few thing i might add always wear armor when fighting no matter what and camp fire near where u fight deerclop is not a bad idea since it can take a long time if ur new to kitting ( which can result u freezing).. Oh and deerclop dont regen health and dont chase u to far either so u can always retreat and come back with more supply in case something go wrong..
Nicolas Bram no, running is bad unless you have a teammate to distract him, cause he will target your base if you just leave him be.
@@1way_kn552 but you could just lure him away from your base, since deerclops only targets nearby structures.
this will be my bible for the rest of winter
Lmfao, you just ate the deerclops eye
Interesting
I love this vid, it’s like telling you what you need but not being too pushy
Oh hey, do I know you?
With Wigfrid I literally never starved during winter unlike in other seasons. Farming is not my cup of tea and finding stuff for the meat is much more time consuming than get a tons of ice for meatballs.
I hate it when my ice spoils
Darkness and Deerclops™️
The tam-o is so helpful as wartox
Am I they only one that is having problems with food as a wortox and not sanity?
Yes
The first time I was able to fight Deerclop (after like 20 run failed) I got him down to like 500 health but then my sanity ran out, night time, hound waves, no more mushroom/food, no wood left. Yea be prepared is the best advice I can give after doing stuff in the video (lot of woods, foods, grass for camp fire, and stack up on mushroom/cactus/sanity health) but don't worry, you can always reset after you died :D
Hey any tips on dealing raid bosses as maxwell? I seem to struggle the most at bee queen and dragonfly but klaus isnt a problem for me
With Bee Queen it can help building a bunch of bunny hutches. You'll need a good 20 (with beekeeper hats) or 30 (without) to consistently take out BQ but once you set it up, you can do it as many times as you like. With Dragonfly, make a decent sized box out of stone walls and just sit in there for the fight. Obviously bring a bunch of armour and healing and a pan flute for when she gets enraged but you won't have to worry about the larva at all.
Thanks man! Do you do character guides?
I'm planning to at some point.
@@DemonRebuilt Looking forward to it
9:12 that's where walter is the best at if u can kite deerclops perfectly u get no sanity decrease. thanks klei for making walter
"if you can kite" That's a big if haha
@@DemonRebuilt xD I mean most people that play walter know how to kite and seasonal bosses are so easy to kite. plus I always get at leat one walking cane before deerclops so I do 4 hits instead of 3 and I use the cane to run from his attack.
are bee farms for soul a good idea ı have a wormhole that leads to bunch of bees
DemonRebulit is basically the beard 777
look at me, watching a starter guide because i completely forgot the early game essentials after spending such a long time on an endless server 😅
you just--you just ate the eye
The eye is for houndius shootius. Nobody eats it except speedrunners
@@jayanta131190 eyebrella*
What is the mod for grid placements called? You know, the one that you used when placing the crockpots in the end...
Geometric Placement
I’ve seen mctusk attack with his bare hands I was like wtf
Your current dp explains your mood to that
That’s rubbish
Yep it's happened to me too. I was shocked. He also has a happy dance emote like when you feed pigs meat
i've seen that too. i think it only does that against non-player entities.
He used that on me
I want to be a Webber main but I have 2 problems. 1. Knowledge of the game. 2. The will to keep playing the game over others.
good tips here but i must say this is one difficult accent for the whole non native english world .. was like thermal stern? silk or sew kit? good that you show what you're talking about. thanks for the tips.
It's not that difficult, I've heard worse. And I'm not a native english speaker.
i get extra sanity from wearing a hoodie and sitting on a gaming chair
Winter is hard, but summer consistently killed me for ages.
Make an ice flingomatic and an endothermic fire
@@Johannesburgus Yes, I know but I still find it the harder of the two, especially when the Dragonfly shows up. These days I can manage but I still greatly prefer winter to summer.
@@Teekoness go to the caves!
dude right as i started the video, my winter started in my world, hounds starting howling, i started freezing, wtf dude, im also almost insane aswell, WHY
ı always carry a hambat no matter what also a dark sword backup
If you are a new player that could result in having no food...
@@thebluefrog6496 whartox
I've got a 96% death rate to rabbits
Ive been stuck on deerclops for a while now. everytime i try to kite as suggested, i still get hit even tho my lag compensation is off. its getting quite frustrating
Deerclops has quite long reach, so it can look like you're clear but it still gets you. You could try with the Insight mod to show you her attack range for better practicing I guess. steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2189004162
you dont have to drop the stone to make it hot you can just stand by the fire and it will get red again
True
Yeah but if you light up a tree it will burn you, and when you are on a fire pit you will not freeze if you are on its light range, so just drop it there when you get to your base xd
my tactic to walrus: he always passive follows you, so you can just make him come close to beefalo/chester/any mob who has more than 100 hp so he and hounds start attacking that mob. First kill dogs, then chase walrus
Well, after some distance he comes back to his camp, i abuse that because when he does so he start slowly walking no matter if im there or not, so i could just stunlock and kill him.
Look at his sanity when he is near deerclops also a bee queen crown will make it to where instead you gain that much sanity
I don't think many new players are gonna have bee queen crowns in their first winter but yes, I always use them to fight deerclops.
bee queen crown only converts half the sanity to positive (-0.5x)
7:55 3 hits and dodge
Due to many updates has deerclops kite changed?
Not really. If anything, it's a bit easier now because you can kite by running around to the back of deerclops instead of running directly out of range.
Well if deerclops doesn't spawn for me i just resort to football helmet + umbrella
step 1: thermal stone step 2: profit
Wait, y’all are making it to winter?
I play Wx_78 alone. Do you have any way to be overcharge more often then just waiting to be struck???
Using a telelocator staff to telepoof away birds or critters is probably the easiest way to do it.
Summer is harder XD
Winter is pain for warly.
Why? Meatballs, Bacon & Eggs, Meaty Stew and Kabobs are all recipes you can make with just meat, eggs and ice.
i fought mactusk like 5 times , and i got 4 tusks and no tam.
It be like that sometimes
What mods would you consider compulsory?
Geometric Placement should be in the game by default. Probably the only mod I couldn't play without.
@@DemonRebuilt The instant after I watched this video, I got it for DS and Together, lol
2:37 How does the gift unpack without the science maschine?
Skins Extender mod. I'm too lazy to head back to science machines, especially when in the ruins and stuff :)
Not trying to flex but my first time facing deerclops i clapped his booty without any guides since i really didnt enjoy the game enough to watch a guide. I got to winter by being very lucky lmao . (i didnt even have a good base) But when spring came along moose goose clapped my stuff... Just couldnt handle how it threw my stuff out of my inventory.
Wait there's winter
idk u, but you seem like a good card
What if Deerclops spawns in the middle of the night?
Torch, lantern, miner hat, moggles? Even a hot thermal stone should give you enough light to run away from base.
i think this game is to overwhelming for me. I've pretty much mastered terraria and i though i could do it with this game but apparently i was wrong
can relate
Terraria to don't starve is like Tetris to minecraft
Don't starve is not a case walk like terriaria
and if you died, just do 1 day rollback and try again. :)
Jesus thats a lot..lol
Why your life isn’t decreasing every time you got hit by monsters??
You're first statement is VERY much so incorrect. Winter was tough, but most new players can't manage their sanity, so Spring is worse. Then once a new player finally get's to summer, their whole base burns down. So I think the seasons are actually ordered in difficulty, Fall is easy, Winter is challenging, spring is hell, and summer is dropping the soap in front of the devil.
There is no spring if you die in winter. Sure, the following seasons can be tough or even worse than winter but I definitely have heard more complaints about winter than the others. I agree though, I don't envy those heading into summer for the first time! :P
