Look Ma, I'm An (Kid) Influencer! | On The Red Dot | Young And Boss

These cool kids are influencing the way we see brands on social media, and they've only just started primary school! 7-year-old Hayley Ng has been a popular influencer with her 15,000 Instagram followers for years. But this year, businesses are cutting back on their budgets following COVID-19. Can the veteran kid influencer keep a tight grip on her popularity, or will younger brother Finley finally close in at her heels? Zemily Leaw is the youngest influencer on one of Singapore's most popular KZhead channels. But behind her fame and fortune lies a story of trolls, cyberbullying and a mother's unfailing love.

  • Got to work with zemily when she was 5 for an ad, by far she is one of the most outstanding child i've encountered in my life. Very mature for her age and takes very little effort to please! Her relationship with her mom amazed me at her age where she is able to empathise her mom's struggles to raise her alone. Getting into social media and acting wasn't even something her mother forced her into, it was an opportunity for her to try out at an audition, and Zemily fell in love with the spotlight immediately with her mom being her biggest fan from then on! Seeing the growth she had over the last two years makes me incredibly proud of her!

  • Hmmmm I feel that Zemily is more mature and therefore understands that her mom is the sole breadwinner of the family. That's probably why she cares more about making money. Plus at least she has NOC to filter out most of the bad stuff for her! Let's not hate on these kids and their parents, when all they did was post about their kids and they just happen to make money out of it.

    @epiphadipity@epiphadipity3 жыл бұрын
    • It's not "just". It's exploiting kids for money. Why expose kids to this kind of toxic world instead of building them up for healthy human relationship?

      @RonLarhz@RonLarhz3 жыл бұрын
    • @@RonLarhz if the parents are forcing the kids to do these kinds of things then yes it’s exploiting them. but the kids seem happy and aren’t complaining. are you saying that the parents you know of don’t post ANY pictures of their kids on social media? times have changed, children are going to be exposed to social media anyway, at an even earlier age than us. also, how do you know they are not exposed to healthy human relationships? what you see from this video is just a small part of their lives, i’m pretty sure they get “healthy human interaction” off camera as well. as mentioned, the kids themselves are not the ones handling their social media account, it’s the parents. all they’re doing is simply receiving products and taking pictures. all the back-end stress falls on their parents. if the parents handle it well and filter what the kids are exposed to, the kids will never see the full blown nasty side of social media YET. also, is it not better to take this opportunity to teach them about real life situations such as bullying/ cyber bullying now? rather than wait for them to ACTUALLY be bullied in real life? you don’t know their real lives, i would not assume what they are feeling just from this short video.

  • Glad that Zemily is able to do what she enjoys. But there are quite a few issues that make me feel uneasy about this. 1) It smells like child labour, why should a 7 year old have to care about making money? 2) Marketing things to kids and convincing kids to convince their parents to buy things. Theres enough consumerism out there, need we start them so young?

    @wlxie89@wlxie893 жыл бұрын
    • Umm, she does it because she enjoys it, her mum did not force her. Maybe her mum started it, but she has the choice if she wants to continue or not, therefore it is not labour

    • some people are just born enjoying making money, my dad is a great example of it. He was always a business man even if his degree says he's a doctor. Zemily seems like one of those types of people who were practically born to make the big bucks while enjoying it. Of course, there's no telling if the mother is actually telling the truth, but seeing as kids are so brutally honest, I'm pretty sure she is. Their chemistry is tough.
