Today I'm taking a look at the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 Gaming. A really solid budget gaming laptop that can easily be had for under $1000, and as of the time of this upload, is currently $650.

let's go, glad you're getting to the point where companies are sending products to you so you can do quality reviews!
For sure, I appreciate Lenovo sending it over. Especially after the jankstation video, haha
Love the budget research and reviews. I never have time to look up this stuff.
This review is surprisingly on the easier side to understand, and I think that's great! Thank you for this random KZhead guy!
I love your videos, its hard to be able to afford the newest tech that I always see in mainstream videos so I love that I can come here and see an engaging video about a good device I can afford.
Thank you! That always bugged me with big tech reviewers. Obviously a $2000 laptop is going to be amazing, but who could possibly afford that without financing a freaking laptop? I think budget items are more interesting, since most people can actually buy and use them.
The HDD in my old 3rd gen i5 laptop died so I decided it was time to upgrade. Grabbed the ideapad gaming 3 with 5600H/3050ti and doubled the RAM. Love this thing. Only complaint is battery, but for the price and compared to a 2core laptop from 2012 I'm very happy.
Yep, exactly. Plus, if you really need the extra battery, you can always get an external battery bank later to take with you. Inconvenient, but an option.
actually, lenovo does sell 56wh battery version, but US only
How many hours does the battery last ? Charging time ?
Nice Video btw. Im glad that i bought this laptop and it literally overkills my work as a student.
Wow, thank you for this as I am about to the same laptop in the upcoming days.
Awesome! Hopefully you enjoy it as much as I did. Get a bigger m.2 SSD as well so you can store more than like 2 games!
this guy is actually my fav youtuber, glad you're finally being sent things!
Thank you! I figured Lenovo is a good place to start since I like their laptops... I can't imagine how that would go over if HP sent me something, since every laptop I've used from them in the past was hot garbage haha
Another great video! awesome job! the production quality is next level here.
Thank you! It's a constant WIP
Great video, I would have liked to see the fan noise you were talking about like you had done with the XPS15 but I'm really enjoying your more PC based content!
Thank you! I did include the fan noise for cinebench and it was in the background of the doom eternal speaker test, but the fans weren't picked up as well by the mic as the xps fans weirdly.
Getting into the big leagues! I'm so glad for you!
Thank you, Helps save my bank account when making videos! Plus it keeps the stacks of laptops smaller cause I have to send them back haha
@@aChairLeg haha that's a pro too!
Very, very helpful review and it helped me narrow my search down. I'll probably go with this over Asus Tuf, Acer Nitro, or the MSI Katana. On top of that you're funny and have a great speaking voice. 🤣🤣
So glad you actually made this video OMG
I've actually had the laptop for a while, just kept getting pushed down the schedule
@@aChairLeg cool anyway waiting for the Next video
@@diogoisaias9958 Thank you! Hopefully Wednesday if all goes as plan... But with Linux it typically doesn't lol
You deserve so many more subscribers! Another great video 👌🏽
Thank you, I appreciate it!
Bought an Ideapad 5 in a panic when my HP broke ($35 battery) and I'm super impressed!
my little cousins have a 2021 ideapad gaming 3 with 5600H and 3050ti, and i can tell you, 16gb ram upgrade alongside extra storage woke the laptop up and now it plays like a champ!
Also I noticed you didn't have the laptop in perormance mode when gaming (change in vantage software or pressnig FN+Q and the power LED changes to red) as your GPU would have got the full power then and better peformance, it only runs at about 60W in balanced mode you get the full 80W in peformance.
Glad I bought one, specs a little different in my case, RTX 3060 and 16GB of DDR4 RAM but I bet the performance is similar.
you can upgrade the lcd panel. I upgraded an hp 14 from a crap 720p glossy color shifting panel to a 1080p thinkpad panel that is much brighter. It also has a matte finish, way better color accuracy, and I overclocked it to 72hz. I bet there is a 60 to 80 dollar panel that will impress you with the brightness.
I have this laptop it's awesome It's good coz it has 2 M.2 slots to add another SSD but my 3050 Ti model came wit7h a slightly bigger 512GB SSD, I added another 8GB DD5 RAM too, I paid £550 on sale - unbelievable
Will be getting this laptop soon, can you play tell me what other AAA games you tested and their average FPS at high setting?
One day when I get a gaming laptop, this is the one I plan on getting. As a student, I am not wealthy at all, and this thing is actually somewhat affordable.
Great review! You had me at 'It's not gonna be glaringly obvious that your book didn't sell well, you've given up on all your dreams and you just wanna feel like you're bettering your life on a Saturday morning pretending to work even though you know you're playing the same game you've been playing for two decades now... hahaha brilliant!
Funnily enough, I meant to cut that joke and completely forgot
It looks very good
Want to share my story with Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 from 2020 , and i hate it , the biggest L is cooling. They put a motherboard the way that CPU is under WASD keys and I5-10300H is not the coolest CPU.Plus they made coolind exhaust directly to screen , while they made a FAKE cooling vents on the on side of laptop. But im really happy that they redesigned this series of laptops
nice video bro
Thanks bro
i got this with 5600H rtx 3060 85w,put in another 8gb silicon power ram+2tb wd green sata, really fast laptop, dual channel ram really sauce the machine up for another 15% speed
It was sold with 3060? For how much?
@@couldntbeproved1392 900$,discounted for 850,60wh battery version
me after using two ideapad gaming 2021 2022 how can they make decent sturdy laptop with plastic and not throttle what thay price? the hinge completely outplay other same price gaming laptop also with high power limit
What are your thoughts on the keyboard and touchpad of this laptop?
I got this same laptop but with a Ryzen 7 6800h and 16gb DDR5 with 512gb SSD and I can't wait for it come.
Hey! How did it go with your laptop? Are you satisfied? What's the fps performance in game? Cheers!
I need a budget laptop with ddr4 ram and a decent gpu...I want to swap out the 32 gb from my old computer to the new one. I need it for video editing any suggestions? Thanks and God Bless
If I didn't already have a VivoBook s15 I would be tempted to get one of these. Budget and common sense are getting in my way (I just hate that).
Do you know if the USB-C gives a display output? I bought it and I'm not sure if it has a display out.
Would one of the IdeaPad 7535hs rtx 2050 or the 5500u or legion Ryzen 7 5800h with 3050ti be better?
Modern Gaming laptops coming out with only 8gb ram and a 500gb ssd is a bit draconian considering that they're asking for 1200-1600aud
i believe you're gonna be a big youtuber. Just please sticking to a 'budget option' youtuber. Lots of youtuber I subscribed finally stop uploading. Keep it up, you're doing great!
Why did you only try FPS games? I wish you had tried more demanding ones...
To anyone reading this - Which windows laptop should I buy for my requirements if I want a laptop where i will be able to explore all parts of development (Android , software, AI, ML, cybersecurity). Also 3d modeling software like Blender. (if possible: Please recommend a few laptops under INR 80K) (Ps. Also I can't build a pc... already considered that point and would like to stick to a laptop) while waiting for a reply I'm searching up and currently considering after reading comments: Dell g15 5520, acer nitro 5 (i5, 12gen , 3050, 16gb 512ssd), Lenovo IdeaPad gaming 3(forgot specs). Do you think they are equally good choices?
I have an Ideapad Gaming 3i with an i5 10300H and a GTX 1650 for "school use." It's pretty all right.
Got 5600H 3050ti model otw Really excited cuz of just how much the this laptop is blowing up right now. Other than storage and memory is there any other mods or upgrades that you’d consider?
Most laptops nowadays you really can't do much fun stuff to besides ram/storage/cooling. But since this laptop has really great cooling already, I don't really think there's much more you would really want to do besides upgrade the storage/ram
@@aChairLeg gotcha. have you tried any like active cooling devices? I ordered a small stand for my laptop and i got a clip on desk fan which to me seems like itd be the best solution
I just bought a similar one but ryzen 7 7735 16ram 512 m2 and a 4050 but cant seem to find any reviews ok that but i guess its ok
I cannot get the metal piece off of the ram. Plz help
This would be great with the coming RTX 3050M refresh with 6gb vram
They did have another model with an RTX 3050 ti, but if I remember it was starting at $1200 or something insane
Hey nice video, are you sure it charges with USB type c? you're the only reviewer who said that
In the video I believe the laptop does say it's charging when I plug it in over USB-C, but it's too small to see. It won't charge at full speed, but when I was using it, the battery did charge while doing basic tasks. If you're curious, the spec sheet does say it supports USB-C power delivery on page 5, but does not give a specific wattage amount. psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys/PDF/IdeaPad/IdeaPad_Gaming_3_15ARH7/IdeaPad_Gaming_3_15ARH7_Spec.pdf
@aChair Leg ok thanks a lot I'll try it when i get it in a few days Good luck with your channel♥️
No problem. Some lenovo gaming laptops actually don't support it officially, so it's always a good idea to check their spec sheets
Whats the game at 1:50? i used to play it in 2013
Command and conquer. Not sure if it was red alert or not
Is this model worth buying its $1039 which is 780usd it’s considered really cheap in my country and here are the specs Processor : AMD Ryzen™ 5 7535HS Processor (3.30 GHz up to 4.55 GHz) Graphic Card : NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 2050 Laptop GPU 4GB GDDR6 Memory : 16 GB DDR5-4800MHz (SODIMM) - (2 x 8 GB) Storage : 512 GB SSD M.2 2242 PCIe Gen4 QLC Display : 15.6" FHD (1920 x 1080), IPS, Anti-Glare, Non-Touch, 45%NTSC, 250 nits, 120Hz, LED Backlight, Narrow Bezel One drawback is definitely the display but I could pay extra $60 for 15.6" WQHD (2560 x 1440), IPS, Anti-Glare, Non-Touch, Narrow Bezel, 100% Adobe RGB, 350nits, 165Hz So is it worth paying the extra 60 for better display
I'd pay the extra $60 personally
@@aChairLeg that’s probably good idea since I probably will be using it for years until I buy a new one
I have the same laptop but im wondering if i can upgrade to 16gb ram is it possible?
Yes
Ryzen 5 6600 is a champ CPU
what game is that at 1:40
Command and Conquer remastered
I have this laptop but some of the keys of the keyboard stopped working
stop smashing them
I bought the same laptop
upgrading the SSD but not the ram is crazy especially on this 8gb laptop and wanting 120 + fps on each game.
If you buy this yourself, you should absolutely upgrade the ram, 8gb isn't enough for me personally. But I tested it as it came, and Lenovo sent it with 8gb of ram.
this is DDR5, not the puny DDR4 memory that will bottleneck the bandwidth severely. also 8GB is still viable with only low/medium textures
@@baoquoc3710 and how much of that 8gb does it take up idle? whats left for gaming?
Bro throwin mad shade at apple enjoyers 😂
ASUS TUF Gaming A17 FA707RE-MS73 Microcenter
Hell of a deal if you live near a Microcenter
Why is this the one you'd buy? That 3050-4GB is a tumor of a GPU!?
could you make a video where you upgrade the ram to 16gb of ram
I'd need a new unit to do that and Lenovo stopped responding to my emails
I have never before heard the words Thinkpad and gaming in the same sentence, and I don't accept it.
can i swap battery with higher wh battery?
Not as far as I'm aware with the 2022 model. You'd have to carry around a battery bank
you could alternatively buy a steam deck and save half the costs
Yeah, up to you on the form factor, screen, etc. Most likely when steam deck prices aren't so insane (for me) I'll pick one up for on the go gaming and stick to a business laptop for work.
@@aChairLeg that's exactly how I roll! only downside is that it gets bulky when traveling. btw, I found your videos yesterday and subscribed. Keep up the good work!
LOL EVEN an apple user wouldn't screw it up!! (those who know, know what that means)
The *Intel version* is way better than this AMD version. Check it out and you'll see!
