Detta är en film för dig som älskar jakt med älghund. Du får följa med på jakter i väglösa marker i Jämtlands fjällvärld, i Västerbottens inland och i Västra Götaland. Man får uppleva hundarnas jobb på såväl älgar som står och som skenar och man bjuder även på spännande skottsekvenser. Filmen är en timma lång så se den gärna på din TV. Filmen är gjord av Kjell och Emil Lennartsson på Härkila.

South African Hunter here. .... Good day, I have really been enjoying your videos for the past two days, it is spectacular. The environment, dogs and general areas are amazing. I just have one question though, there have been so many opportunities for Headshots but none taken. I would really like to understand why not, is it a ranch rule? or any other reason? Could you please also let us know what is the general range (distance) of a shot. Thanks for the amazing videos again Johan
Hi Johan. Nice that you like our movies. It is a much larger area to hit if you shoot at the lungs than at the head. But if the distances are not too long, we sometimes shoot at the head and neck in moosehunting. However, there is a risk that the animal throws its head away when you shoot and then you get a bad shot. I think the general distance is around 75 m. Best regards Kjell

Var är grejen med allt orange, man syns ju på flera kilometer med de färgerna.
Varför skjuta kalven i sjön? Går ju faktiskt att vänta tills den är på land.
Jo det går ju givetvis att vänta men det är ju val som skytten gör i det aktuella läget. Har man en bra skottmöjlighet och man bedömer det som möjligt att hämta in älgen kanske man väljer att ta läget.

Kängorna funkar fint. De är lätta, behöver inte smörjas, är knarrfria, torkar snabbt och har två års garanti. // MVH Kjell
Varför delade ni inte på älgen i skogen och plockade ut den så den som flögs ut med helikopter?

Excellent video .. We have nothing like that in UK. Skilled hunters and hounds . A strong pony/cob with breast harness could replace a helicopter ?? Please … English subtitles , or voice over ?
Hi Mike. Nice that you like the movie. Well, it is possible to pull out moose with a horse in certain areas where we do not have such great distances. There must also be no large wet bogs because then you will not get over with a horse. ATVs run most of the time, but when there is too much snow, it stops or when there is too much rock. Then you can take a helicopter or carry the moose out in large backpacks. In winter, we often take snowmobiles. We have started writing English subtitles for our films, but unfortunately we have not had time to make it for this film. Best regards from Sweden. // Kjell

WHY DO THEY SHOOT THE CALVES
It is probably the same arrangement as in Norway: The authorities allocate quotas. Calves are shot to keep the stock at a certain level. Shooting calves is not always fun - but, that's what it is. What you should not do, however - is to shoot the female - and then let the calf go alone. It will usually mean torment and slow death...

I first found this very interesting using a trained dog to bring the moose in. However, as things unfolded I got a bitter taste in my mouth. Shooting moose in the water, using a helicopter to airlift the moose, watching animals needlessly suffering, way over the top with technology. Then I got to thinking that this must be a commercial operation. Not good.
Moose hunting with dog is one of the oldest cultural heritage we have in Scandinavia. It is a hunting form that we have had for thousands of years. And we humans are a part of nature , just like other predators. However, we humans have evolved in everything. Even within the hunt. We also use some technology today besides the dog. We use ATV, for example, to get the meat out and not have to carry it far as we hunt in areas that lack roads. We can still carry the meat, but to be able to do it requires that you have special backpacks and they were not with us in this hunt. And in this movie we use a helicopter when we couldn't get the meat out with the ATV because of too much snow. Using helicopters is not economically justifiable, but as hunters it is important to bring home the game we shoot and then we sometimes have to take a higher cost and than use a helicopter. I see where you are coming from. Thanks for the reply and putting things in perspective. I would love to have a Swedish Elk-hound to bring the moose in. I don't know though if they are legal in Canada. I am old school though when it comes to the technology end of things. I have an argo to retrieve moose and an atv and can't back pack moose out any more but I see a lot of abuse using technology. Thank you once again.
I've been watching this tape it's absolutely disgusting that's not hunting from what I take it they shoot the small and young and female in the mail Desta pleading the herd I don't know where they're hunting I don't understand the language the word is it's disgusting I'm glad you're not hunting where I hunt.
Sweden has the world's densest moose population. And here we don't hunt to shoot nice trophies. We hunt to bring home fine moose meat and to have great nature experiences. Hunting calves is probably the most natural thing we hunters can do, who have been top predators for thousands of years in nature. The wolf and the bear also take mostly calves when hunting. So I don't understand your attitude if you are a hunter who hunts like we did for thousands of years. Don't forget that we humans are part of nature.
Well, where you hunt you probably don't have to shoot 100k moose a year just to keep the population in check, only hunt for trophies rather than meat and most likely don't have a hunting tradition and culture spanning thousands of years. I guess you prefer to sneak around and shoot big bulls to brag about later on. Very shallow to say the least compared to this.

No, this is not a sports hunt. This is real hunting. We hunt moose in the same way that hunters have hunted moose in Scandinavia for thousands of years. Wolves were domesticated and became today's hunting dogs. This is evolutionary development that takes place all the time in nature.

Det kan vi givetvis men då måste man ha en väst på hunden. Västar avger ofta mycket ljud när hunden springer mot grenar och ris. Detta ljud blir älgen rädd för. Och då kan det bli svårare för hunden att ställa älgen.

Собака не кусает брюшину, она просто откусывает немного шерсти, и это мало что делает. Это своего рода награда для лося.
