People are going in to my property and using it as a romance get away. Well no more! Time to pound posts in the ground and hang some gates.

I bet you couldn't dig one of those holes by hand in the time you set all 4 gates; nice. Big rocks spaced so far apart that it is easy to walk and maintain but not so easy to drive through would keep them from going around. Last time I had a problem with that and installed a gate, they drove down 100 yards in the field and cut down a couple trees so they could drive onto the road there, Big rocks ended that.

  • If you want to seal up your posts take some packing styrofoam jam it down in there tight about 6 in and fill it up with concrete or instead of concrete you use expanding foam cut off flush and paint it I've done both

  • # 1:03 don't make those hinge bolts @ the same level, 1/4 inch I recommend, so you don't have to get them BOTH started [ when putting the gate on ] at the same time.

  • Wobbling drill bits done make them cut better it just ruins the bit from cutting straight .Hold the drill bit straight it'll fly thru using the taper bits. Shot of cutting oil helps !!

    • Two inch pipe welded in center on each gate with a 1 1/2" pipe to make a gate lock to hold gates straight in center will make it stronger and easier then chain n locks.

    • When a bit gets a dead spot in it you have to wobble it to get past that point. We use old bits in that manner all the time. They are expensive so you get as much use out of them as possible!

  • What you need the.do Dave is either fill the poles or concrete or put a cap on them so the water don't go down inside of it. Freeze and busted steel right out

  • What’s to stop from driving around the gates? It appears to be field. Can you drop boulders on the sides?

  • No way to adjust that gate after welding the hinge to the posts that will lean over time, best I can tell from the video. Looks great for now.

  • For being in upstate New York I think you mounted them to low to the ground because of the amount of snowfall you get. I bet after a good snowfall you won't be able get them open......

  • You should have excavated 300mm deep length ways with the road and put the gates in the same direction, try to get out of that mister 😂😂

  • I would have used the cutoffs to make caps on top of the posts to prevent moisture getting inside, and miscellaneous debris.

  • My cousin set up a mole trap on his grate. If someone drove over the grate it set off the shotgun shell and scared the hell out of the driver but went off underground. It cut down on the lover's lane appeal of the location.

  • That part of the world is crooked cause no way those posts were straight. For future reference, maga verify that the person holding your level is qualified for the job. 😊 Andrew had posts that screwed into the ground and Dave has them slammed in. I never would have guessed that in a million years. Glad I saw it with my own eyes.

  • All that work and money and a 9/16" wrench gets me in through your gate !!! Weld the top hinge bracket to the gate otherwise a 9/16" wrench undos the top hinge bracket, slide it down off the hinge bolt and lift the bottom hinge off and you are in !!! Old farmer here, IF you "forget" or lose your key you can get in !!! !
