What’s up my piano friends!! Today’s video we’re going go over how to get hand independence on piano, even if you’re a beginner. In other words…
“How do I get my dang left and right hand to cooperate!!”
This is a SUPER common struggle among beginners, but it’s a pretty easy fix if you know what you’re doing. It’s actually not as hard as most people think.
We basically run it through an 8 Step Gauntlet Process to hit your brain from every angle possible, so that you’ll be able to practice songs hands together, or exercises, riffs, left hand patterns, or whatever you want.
But you’ll see what I mean in the video...
Here’s what we’ll cover:
Section 1: Why Beginner’s Struggle With Hand Independence 00:00
Section 2: Learning the Hands Coordination Exercise 01:16
Section 3: The 8-Step Gauntlet Process to Get Hands Together Every Time 02:02
Section 4: The 7 CORE Hands Independence Exercises [IMPORTANT] 07:36
Make sure you stick around to the end - a lot of beginners think it’s impossible to get their hands to play hands together, but you’ll see how simple it is to learn, even if you’re super new on piano. The two-hands piano exercises will build you up gradually, step by step to get you there in no time. Exactly what to practice, how to practice, and what drills and training to do. Think of it like a bootcamp to get from Point A to Point B FAST.
Oh, and btw if you’re a complete beginner, no worries, it’s specifically designed for beginners, and we take absolute baby steps tot make sure you’ll get it frustration-free. Don’t forget to download the Cheat Sheet to make it even easier:

Fun, dynamic, systematic, easy to follow. Absolutely the best teacher on YT for sure. Thanks for spending your time making these vids and sharing! I can play piano now in a way that actually others can enjoy as well lol. And it all happened coz of you!🙏

At the start of the video thsi felt impossible. Two days later and I have it all down. You are the best teacher in this entire world.
Awesome! Glad you found the video helpful! 🎹
When there is a pragmatic approach to learning, things become easier to learn. Thanks 😊👍
Zach, you are the best piano teacher on the internet. I've had so many progresses, since I watch your videos. You can explain things, that I with my 50 years of age understand and do it. I just found this video and will exercise, when I got home. So thank you very much.
Happy new year zach all the way from micronesia. I just subscribed to you a few days ago and im already getting a lot of helpful tips so I'd just like to say thank yu for helping those who have trouble learning the piano and may god continue to bless your heart.❤❤

Thank you so much Zach, i learned a lot of great things about the music with you.
Love the way you teach Zach! I have played guitar since young but just camp fire style but always wanted to learn piano so bought myself a a keyboard and I just love it only playing for a month now and was struggling getting my hands to work together until I found your videos! Your exercises really work well thank you for the awesome content!
I’m surprised a lot of this guys videos don’t have millions of views, even tho some bad tutorials do. These are way more helpful than 90% of the rest here
Ahhh!! I did the 1,2 1,2 . Even if I never got any further, that is so satisfying. Thank you so much!! Thanks from a 55 year old, who always wanted to play since she was 10.
Out of all the piano teachers out there on KZhead I know for sure your method is the best no one cannot surpass your method
You have so much positive energy! Very helpful

Thanks Gene!
You just saved my life with this!!!
Great video's that helps a lot of people. Started piano no problem 2 hands and read 2 keys., but by changing to flûte in 3rd adult grade..lost quite some things: read Sol & Fa key together, playing with 2 hands together and read the Fa key correctly.
I like the way you teach! It makes sense.
Thanks Helen, glad you liked it!
Thanks for posting this video it's helping me very much

Zach you rock this really works if you just power through it. Great teaching technique!
Thanks Hilde. Glad you liked the video! 🎹

You're welcome Argie!
Yes. I love this.
Glad you loved the video! 🎹
This is great 👍
ty i just started and this is really helpful!
Awesome Daniel, glad you're getting a lot out of it
Your videos have certainly kept me motivated and enhanced my piano playing journey so far. After having watched so many videos, I am confused what is ideal placement for left hand. Pinky on C or E or does it change everytime?
I might say this and sound unreal or fake but here goes: I have been playing the keyboard for a month (total new beginner) now and within the month, I had serious issues with hand independence, I tried these exercises and within the week I can play with both hands, though still a work in progress but I see the huge improvement from what I was a week ago. Thank you for these videos, Zach. Much appreciated. PS. Am not a student of his classes. So just know these exercises work if done well.
Not that I'm disputing what you say Zach, but the academic in me is very keen to see a reference to the assertion that "our brains learn and consolidate while we sleep" around 7m 20s in.
This is better way of learning i am 71 and your are the best teacher up here on you tube
Awesome Reuben! 71 and still learning! LOVE your attitude! 🎹
thank you so much this was annoying me so much!! it helped me so much.
I had problems for years with my left hand but your method I got the swing of things you are doing a wonderful wonderful job and between 1:00 to 10:00 if I have to read you I will give you 100
wow! at first the hands together was first hard and now to this video i'm starting to get the hang of having hands together
Awesome job. Keep the momentum going! 🎹
Nice bro🎉
This is soooo awesome it is helping me sooooo much
Awesome. Glad you found the video helpful! 🎹
Really cool process
Glad you liked it!
Excited
Awesome and great way of teaching the beginners...💕
Thanks Subashini!!
Thank you Zach for the most informative lessons on here. I could play a piano by learning a song at a time but it took forever so I decided to go back to basics and learn chords so I knew what I was playing and also to he able to play any song I wanted straight away. Have used so many of your cheat sheets already and just wanted to say thank you for showing us HOW to learn to play piano 👍👌
Awesome Kelly, SO glad to gear you're putting everything into practice!
thanks so much
Glad you liked the video! 🎹
I’m new to piano and browsing the net for useful vids. When I first saw this channel I found the guy a little too salesman-like, too intense. After watching a few videos, I’ve discovered there is really useful info here. Some of it is a bit challenging for a first-week student. But I think it will help me understand some concepts and help me practice. I’ve subscribed and plan to check in regularly even though I have regular in-person lessons scheduled. Jim
It's actually amazing how you can go to bed sort of knowing something and then wake up and get it completely. Fuckin' brains, man.
Thank u Zach this really boosted my piano life at least i can now play for my church without worring of my fingers playing 2 keys instead of one
So glad this helped you! 🎹
WOW Thank You Just What I need a sesame Street breakdown I was about to Quit 🙏🏽
Awesome Diamond. Glad you found the video helpful! 🎹
You're a genius 👌 bro.
Thanks Neil. Glad you enjoyed the video! 🎹
I really love your program and learned several songs thanks to you but how can we get these lesson in order from beginner to expert? I'm jumping all over the place and I'm sure that's hurting my learning process. thanks again, I love your lessons
Thanks to you I can play with both hands
Awesome job, Wiktoria. Keep it up! 🎹
Great video. More beginner videos please?
I use this same technique for learning drums
Another good video Zac. Regarding rythm, which I always struggle with, what's your take on using a metronome?
I LOVE metronomes. Here's a video on how I like to use them for practicing: www.bestpianoclass.com/metronome-strategies-2/
Thank you I have more confident yessssssss much easier
Oh Zach my dream is to visit your home. Because I want to learn more how to play the piano.
Great video. More beginner videos pleas?
Big fan 💐
Sure works
This is so much easier to learn piano!
thank you🙂😀😄😃😉
Your welcome :)
I like you this excited and smart guy
Glad you liked the video! 🎹
Thx
4:05 i’m not following along right now, but yeah, it seems much better than the other stuff you complained about
Great video, thanks. When chunking, how many notes should you put in each chunk? How many chunks should you end up with? Asking not necessarily for this simple exercise but when using this approach for learning other music passages. Appreciate your comments.
Thanks Zack. My hands say thank you
This is the only piano tutorial i understand so far
The moment he played the example result, I paused the video and got to practice, when I got the hang of playing 2 notes on my right hand to one on left, I opened the video again to know what the next step is. There was no next step. I just finished the exercise he was about to teach us. I am finishing the video nonetheless! I am just going to try using it to play 3 notes to 1 instead 😅
wow this method is MUCH BETTER
Hi Zack I believe I got the name right, correct me if I'm wrong. Really Love your Lessons, They are better than most I've seen on here. I bought A Roland FP-30x to learn Piano. I am a advanced Left & Right handed Guitarist. I am 48 have been playing & performing since I was 10 years old didn't get good till my Teens 🤣 Practicing patterens turned into A fun song is what worked for me. Can you create A Song for us with simalar exercises that sound like A fun song that way we get to enjoy A song while Practicing. If not thats ok I'll beable to create my own Just thought it would be cool to here what you come up with. Thanks for your time.
It is a really good way of learning how to have your both hands working together. I was a bit discouraged before trying this method.
Glad you found it helpfu!
Being very brave this evening and have now graduated to trying this with swing....
Nice 👍 nice
I'll try way
