I finally received my stage 3 ported cylinder heads from Livernois and in this video we go over: what is porting, why it makes a difference, and what kind of power gains we can expect.

  • God damn, I love this build more and more with each upload. Also, thank you for teaching me what ported heads mean and what to expect from 3v's if you get this done.... To go from 325 hp to 400+ is INSANEEEE! With all the new parts you're planning to add as well I wouldn't be surprised to see modern Coyote power coming out of your 3v! Very very cool. I finally picked up my own 3v and it's better than I had ever dreamt.

    • could always build the engine and put a blower on it. I think you can get somewhere around 630 horsepower or so if you do it right. I want to do it some day but my father doesn't think it is a good idea. There's been a lot of 3V back in 2005-2006 I can remember with superchargers putting out over 400hp.. it's been doable for quite a long time. And yes, I can afford ~$16,500 upgrades to the engine.

      @denniss4951@denniss49513 жыл бұрын
    • Mine doesn't perform like an 'underdog' and it is still stock. People seem to be spoiled with what is available today and forget how much power you really just need on the street. Not everyone lives on a race track or a 1/4 mile drag strip. At least, I don't and I never will. Also there were already Chevrolet LS V8 powered cars way before the S197 GT came out in 2005 that would outrun it.

  • Always wanted a 5 axis machine 😍! I run two 4 axis a61nx Makino’s for a living. Polishing is very simple to do on your own. A little time and elbow grease and they’d be good 👍🏻. Also polishing the combustion chamber is beneficial! Removing any “sharp” spots so to speak helps with detonation aka spark knock. Therefore eliminating hot spots.

  • Edit: I got porting done. All done by hand by someone with many years experience. They did it per my application. Gains we’re 25% average on intake across valve lift range and 48% average on exhaust. Actual cfm gains at .600 were 212 up to 268 intake, 145 up to 212 on exhaust! So it performs between a LS1 and coyote head. Great flow for 4.6L. OP: Building one of these too, talking about porting with engine builder right now. Turbo application. Crazy part is the gains N/A are multiplied under boost. Let's say you gained 75HP N/A, thats worth 150HP at 15psi! Insane!

  • Wouldn't trust the Livernois numbers. They are bad about lying about inflated HP numbers to sell parts. A stock 3v Makes 350bhp on the engine dyno with headers and bare minimum accessory drive. Heads will normally add 30bhp on the engine dyno. Convert to rwhp I say stage 3 heads on your setup will add 25 whp. I say this not to be a dick. Looking forward to seeing the results. It will be hard to decipher the hp gain on these as you will be adding these to a motor with boost as well a drop in CR. The drop in CR will reduce hp by about 10-15 by itself (NA), but won't matter as you will be making too much horsepower when you boost it. Thanks for putting out the great content man! Make sure you get boost cams in the future. NA cams in a boost motor will make less hp than the stock cams under boost conditions.

  • If you port head doesnt it mean that you will lose more velocity? Remember when you deleted butterfly valves. If I m right that means you will lose even more low end torque. And putting turbos on top of that instead of somethink that will give you low end torque like supercharger... idk man. My guess is that you will have loads of power at top of the rev range but low end is gonna suck. *Correct if I m wrong* PS. Love the build either way. Keep up the good work.

      @michax175@michax1753 жыл бұрын
    • In theory what you're saying about flow and velocity is correct. There can be shifts in the powerband. However, there may also be overall gains from increasing the efficiency of the engine. The heads do have higher cfm ratings and larger ports after being reworked, but that doesn't mean they'll lose bottom end (though some can.) There may have been something in the passageways that was technically adding velocity, but overall impeding the combustion process. The initial head architecture and porting work makes a real difference. For example, if someone just takes some heads and opens them up as big as possible they could lose power everywhere, yet only minor port work may result in bigger gains. Blah, blah, blah. Other supporting mods and tuning will also effect the end results and can change them one way or the other significantly, so lots of variables and can't say for certain how this exact combination will work out for him. Just my few cents, who knows! 🤷‍♂️ I'm excited to see the results myself

  • u should budget to get a stroker shortblock and also maybe you should consider getting a meth injection kit and try e85 after watching the full video i realized you went balls to the walls with your engine 💀

  • Wow, what a build this will be! If I had the coin I'd be going this route. I'll have to stick to stock displacement with upgraded heads for meow tho. Cant wait to see more! How much was the head work from Livernois? Will you be changing cams since the extra cubes will tone down the brenspeed rockers?

    @Beep00p@Beep00p3 жыл бұрын
    • $3k 😕 ... depending on the results, I may change the cams. I dunno. Maybe. 🤷‍♂️

  • Great video and information and before and after sizing is a great visual specs. This car will be a beast! Can I ask what the heads cost and cost for porting?

    @jmmustangs3078@jmmustangs30783 жыл бұрын
    • He said the heads cost around 1300 don't think he mentioned the portting cost.

      @gaus1775@gaus17753 жыл бұрын
    • Porting was $3k. Do not recommend as it's obviously not cost-effective.

  • It’s exciting to see the 3V get so much build attention vs the semi-standard 5.0 swap for power. Have you heard of any issues related to the lifters at higher RPMs with the new setup ?

    • I haven't... the highest I'll rev this thing is probably 7,500 depending on how the chart looks up there.

  • A question on your cyl head that you have for sell in your store. The picture shows a right side head but your description says it is a left?

    @dly135@dly1352 жыл бұрын
  • I'd personally have liked to have seen you install the heads on your 4.6 engine. That's what I'm running and would have been interested in the differences you would experience. I'm personally working in a different direction. I'm going to work on the handling end. Springs, shocks, anti-roll (sway) bars, Watts link in the sear suspension, better sway bar end links, higher quality front control arms, and like your GT a 1 piece driveshaft. Oh, an all-aluminum larger radiator just because I hate "modern composite" units. I personally think that 425 - 460hp is a great number but only if it's tractable and useable. I look forward to your future videos. Stay safe & healthy.

    • Thanks Lincoln. I probably won't track this car as it's my daily. Did everything all at once (heads + stroker kit) to reduce labor costs and time.

  • Good to hear from u again. I was just thinking the other day, wonder whats up with 4eyes. So I just heard u say "1000" hp. In one of your 1st vids u said on the road to 700 hp. I've nvr heard of getting a 1000 out of a 4.6. Pulling for you!

    @rvchipster@rvchipster3 жыл бұрын
    • I don't think you can get much more than 600 horse out of the 3V to be honest, and to me that is more than plenty. If you want 1000 horse, might want to look into modding a 427 aluminum block ford v8 :P

      @denniss4951@denniss49513 жыл бұрын
    • @@denniss4951 I agree, 600 sounds reasonable but still scary on a stock block. When u end up putting n a whole new engine then its not really a factory 1000 horse stock car any more.
