  • I know I don’t come around here much - but I have to tell you how much I genuinely enjoyed this video, and how proud of you I am. Your intentionality and discipline have not only helped you but they have helped inspire me, and improved my health. I hope that means we’re perhaps buying a little more time together. It’s always good to see your face 😊

  • You’re a super brave you’re talking about all this, but you’re not alone. I have experienced quite a bit of what you’ve experienced and am on a journey that is whole food plant-based not all salt oil or sugar or processed foods. I initially lost 23 pounds but it’s been slowing down now. I still have a long ways to go but we are in the good fight right along with you.❤

  • Our stories are so similar. Like crazy similar. I have done keto and lost 40 pounds then went back to my old habits and gained it back. I have been contemplating doing it again and this video just encourages me to do so. I have followed you for awhile for your other content but would love to see more of you health journey in the future. Congratulations on your success. I know how much better I felt on keto. I miss that. Just like the Lord gave you that sugar video he gave me yours. ❤

It is not just about weight but also about decreasing inflammation. I was just looking at that same book on Amazon but put it in my save for later. Would love a book review when you are done...lol. • Thank you for this video ❤ I recognized the thing about making small changes not leading anywhere. I used to make small rules like ”only have cake twice this month” and track it in my bujo. But it didn’t lead anywhere and only increased my stress. And the health problems… I have fascia plantatis, I broke my leg last year, it’s been a journey. Currently I focus on exercise and I don’t think too much about what I eat.

I tell myself "I would rather have the weight off then eat the "whatever". Before I had lost any significant weight I noticed that the pain in my knees had lessened significantly. I agree…not going back to having those aches and pains, makes the extra effort of this lifestyle so worth it! I also had normal blood work but in my mid 50s, I knew that would change eventually. I’m down 85lbs and still going! Hadn’t heard of Fast Like A Girl. Thanks for that info…will check her out! Many congrats to you and your husband. • Well done! You've made great progress so far - keep going! It is a lifestyle change to be successful. I understand many of your thoughts as I've also had them in the almost 5 years since starting low carb. The weight has stayed off thus far and the healing continues. Sharing a family & church potluck favorite: if you enjoy lasagna, this simple hack makes it low carb - swap out the pasta with "thick cut" turkey lunchmeat. You'll still get the "layers" of lasagna, no turkey taste, and best of all be much lower in carbs. Oven roasted turkey lunchmeat works best. Blessings on your continued health journey! ❤

I've had the same since young age. My doctors really never cared. The blood sugar was never high. 2006 I found out I am glutenintolerant. When I made my diet strictly clean my blood suger dips just disappeared. I've decided to go keto in january. But now when I've seen this I start my health journey tomorrow instead. I thought it was normal until I went to college & learned how most were eating out all the time & eating almost all processed foods. I wish we had a local restaurant that served keto lunches! The hard part with keto that I have is what to eat. I am just not a big meat eater. I am doing keto also, but not as consistently as you. When my daughter was in the hospital that got me off track for like two months. ugh. I eat a lot of eggs, greek yogurt, keto protein shakes, some meat, etc. If you have any good recipes, please let me know! Take care!

They’ve a Zoe podcast about women fasting which I think is the Dr you mentioned. It’s a lifestyle change and nothing is off menu, although I quit alcohol in August which I thought I’d never be able to do. Not required on Zoe but a personal choice. I’m really happy for you that you’ve found something that works so well for you. Very plant based is a great way to go for gut health. I recommend Dr Rupy Anjula and the Zoe podcasts if you are interested in food for health. Well done Sam. 👏

  • Hi Sam it is very courageous to make this video. I follow you for the planner time but I kept listening your journey weight loss. I am living in the US but I grew up in Europe. I don't eat the american diet. No soft drinks, no hotdogs, little as possible hamburgers, no sandwich bread only bread made with flour salt yeast and water= real french bread, no american cake, cup cake etc. We eat vegetables( depend of season), meat ( french cheese), fruits as dessert. Because everything is so expensive we cut the quantity. Quality and less quantity and you will loose weight. As diversity there are a lot of recipes on the internet which can help to vary your selection of what to eat without breaking your diet. Good luck you will arrive and feel so much better and bye bye to doctors

  • Congrats on realizing that you needed to make a change in your lifestyle (diet / food plan & exercise) -- AND actually STARTING with a New Life Style AND STICKING with it!! In 2021 I participated in a dietary research study at our local hospital that was studying the effects of full-fat dairy on blood glucose levels. To participate in the study, you had to have an elevated A1C level --so be pre-diabetic. All food was provided, and there was lots of testing -- after the "washout" week of non-protocol diet, after 3 weeks on one diet & then after 3 weeks on the other diet -- all participants ate both the low-fat dairy diet & the full-fat dairy diet. After 1 day on the washout diet, I had empirical evidence that wheat & flour are inflammatory for my body: I had significant post-nasal drip that gave me an all-day intermittent cough EVERY DAY I participated in the study (the study's diet had much more wheat than I usually ate: bread, muffins, cereals, pasta). By the end of the study, besides the empirical evidence that wheat is inflammatory for me, I also had evidence from the 6 days of LOTS of blood testing that if I didn't make a change to my diet / life style, that I was facing Type 2 Diabetes. I decided that if I could eat a diet of not-my-choice for 8 weeks, that I could make significant changes to my diet / Food Plan. What my Food Plan (yeah, I know, spin - but I like that term better than "diet") consists of might fall into the "Keto" category. Like you, I don't really like the label "Keto". I'm just calling it "My New Life Plan". I'm not making any long-term decisions, but rather I set the guidelines for my Food Plan every month. Pretty much, my guidelines are 1) NO sugar or added sugar. So, no candy, no ice cream or gelato 2) NO wheat or flour, so no cookies, no crackers, no bread, no pasta, no pretzels 3) Eat lots of protein, good fats, & non-starchy vegetables; limit portion sizes of starchy vegetables, fruits, nuts. Every month when I'm setting up my Food Plan for the month, I look at the calendar to see what "Special Events" there are, e.g. birthdays, Holidays, etc, and make a plan for how to handle that event. When I started My New Life Plan in Sept 2021, I told myself that it was to improve my health & reduce inflammation. I was hoping for some weight / fat removal (NOT losing it, but rather removing it, because I don't want to find it again :), but that's not my focus. I have never been able to make a plan for X #s weight loss in X period of time; if I try to do that I never meet that [overly optimistic?] goal, and then feel discouraged & depressed, neither of which are good for maintaining a diet / eating plan. For me, I need to be getting enough sleep (a challenge for me), doing regular exercise, and following my Food Plan in order to remove fat. I saw a very interesting YT presentation that was an interview with several people who had lost a significant amount of weight and kept it off. Almost everyone said that they'd had to give up certain foods in order to lose weight and keep it off. The predominant theory on diet and nutrition is that all foods are good; no foods should be "bad" or dis-allowed -- because that kind of eating leads to dis-ordered eating. However, I do believe that there are some people for whom sugar and high-carb foods are like alcohol to an alcoholic; if you eat some, you don't get full, but just want to eat more and more and more. That is how I am with sugar and high-carb foods. There are alcoholics in my family. Just totally cutting out sugar & flour is much easier than trying to eat those "in moderation". One of the people interviewed in that show said that telling someone who REALLY likes sugar & high-carb foods "it's OK, just have a piece of cake (or helping of ice cream or ...) it's your birthday (or whatever event / excuse)" is like telling an alcoholic "just have one drink; it'll be OK" or telling a drug addict that it's OK to have "just a little on this special occasion". Our understanding of alcohol and drug addiction has changed so that we now recognize that abstinence is a better policy than moderation for most addicts. (looked for the video, but couldn't find it). For me, cutting sugar and flour out of my diet has been Best wishes with your journey towards a healthier you with less fat

    @olderandorganized@olderandorganized6 ай бұрын
    • Based on my husband’s reaction specifically, I also am convinced he has a gluten sensitivity. I’ve definitely treated sugar and flours like a drug. Although I didn’t ever overeat, I definitely consumed too much sugar, and think I’m not someone who handles glucose well. Addictions run rampant in my family, and I’m happy to toss this group of foods from my life.

      @samplans@samplans6 ай бұрын
  • Good for you! That’s dedication and discipline and you should be very proud! A question… Do you count macros? I think I heard you say in the video that you don’t constantly count carbs. The reason I’m asking is because I tried keto a few years ago and I couldn’t keep it up because every book, doctor, influencer, program, etc., emphasized counting macros including carbs fat and proteins or you wouldn’t be successful. Well I have sucked at math since I was in grade school so this “program” was not for me. Then they threw in this thing about net carbs and counting those instead of just straight carbs. It got all too confusing and complicated and I quit multiple times. If there’s an easier way to do keto without all the math and willing to give it another try. I need to lose at least 60 pounds and It just gets harder the older you get! Thank you for any insight you can provide on this counting macros or not counting them!

    @cherylbalmas4901@cherylbalmas49017 ай бұрын
    • Counting net carbs is easier. I don’t count macros. I’ve done it a few times to see where I am, but I don’t want to spend my whole day doing that. I’ve been successful anyway!

I know we are not automobiles but I definitely believe that if I would have put in the efforts of maintenance i wouldn't have gained the weight back. The good thing is, we get a do-over! Fresh start! I decided the day to start is TODAY! A great way to prepare yourself for the holiday challenges.😊
