  • This is one of the best Emerald challenge runs I've seen. It's on the edge of impossibility right off the bat and requires very unconventional strategies. It's cool seeing a run that actually requires Treecko as the starter, and showcases the utility of several pokemon that are not commonly used like this.

  • You know it's going to be a good time when Beautifly is utilized the whole way through. Best part of challenge runs is always going to be weird, niche, usually bad Pokemon getting spotlight even for a moment.

    • Yeah! Unique challenges like these can really give normally overlooked pokemon time to shine, which is pretty neat imo. Draining and healing moves are gold here! Also teleport.

    • @@isaiahschmitt8680 It was probably a fail safe by the Devs. Emerald has of tone of fail safes to prevent you from getting trapped because it was easy to do in Ruby and Sapphire. For example Wally's dad give you Surf the second you step out of Petalburg gym after you get the badge so that you can't get trapped on Dewford without it.

  • Omg the battle with Norman was wild! The cherry on top, imagine losing to your son’s starter with 1hp and the experience of your fainted ace gives the starter just the amount of exp it needs to level up, and it evolves immediately after the battle. Incredible!

    • Gen 3 starters are all pretty balanced. Sceptile is generally considered the best in Emerald, Swampert the best in Ruby and Sapphire, and Blaziken is the best competetively.

  • I love how in hindsight, in all his RSE challenges he cycled through all 3 starters. He chose Treecko for this one, Torchic for the "everyone has Wonder Guard" and Mudkip for the "No Pokecenter" and "1v2" challenges. Goes to show how diverse you need to be, and how very completable these seemingly impossible runs are

  • I love Pokémon challenges that involve the player or overworld more than a lot of others, because most of them fall under “Pokémon but [BATTLE QUIRK] makes it harder.” So seeing these are a great change of pace. Keep it up!

    • @@sarahwallace1103 I have actually seen a few videos where they get to the very end of the game and realize that, no, you cannot actually beat X with Y. It was actually pretty funny. I do agree that it's usually clickbaity, though. Like, yes, you can beat Dark Souls with a caestus. The caestus deals damage, and you need to deal damage to things to win the game. I've seen some creators call those "Beating X with Y" instead of what you said, and I think that works out a lot better.

  • A weird idea I had: What if you can beat a pokemon game with only the first option to be pressed? That means if your pokemon knows Tackle, Growl, Roar and Sand Attack, it can only use Tackle until it learns a new move, where its forced to take the newest move in the first slot. If you use the bag, you can only use the first item in each tab, regardless of how useful or useless it is. You effectively cannot switch until fainted, and if fainted, you can only pick your next pokemon in line.

  • I couldnt imagine doing this challenge in B&W 1, Skyarrow Bridge would be almost impossible. You’d need a pokemon with a hp stat of about 386 or a LOT of overworld-gotten potions

  • The one type of run when HP Ev training is required to beat the early game. This was a stressful challenge to watch, but it was fun seeing it all play out. Healing sustain is crucial.

A well made long or short video could do just the same I think.

    • Actually, yeah. If he decided against it because Truant was an issue, then he could've grinded it up to a Vigoroth and slapped the Everstone you get in Granite Cave on it. It might not be as strong as Slaking, but at least it would be somewhat of an option for later fights I think.

  • I really like the fact this was indirectly a Grass-heavy run, considering it's often considered a weak type, but in a format like this its strenghts really come into play. Hoenn being imo one of the better gens for Grass types overall definitely helps too.

  • I love these types of challenges! Where you have to think inside and outside of battle. He can't just use an optimal team, because if the pokemon can't heal itself then it's useless. So he has to build a good team AROUND the out of battle restriction. It's awesome to see how far you get every time
