So mrs Feakes at Thurlow school emailed to see if I could help sort their pool out which hadn’t been used since before covid!
Due to no funding they couldn’t afford to pay for the job to be done! I did mange to find a sponsor as I do think it is important for kids to learn swimming as early as they can! Unfortunately the sponsor pulled out 3 weeks before we started the job. I really didn’t want to let the school down so took it on the chin and proceeded with the job.
It’s now all done and the kids can carry on learning to swim which is great!

I don't know what shocked me more ...how great it looked after they finished or that the school even had a pool in the first place,in Wales i cant think of a single school even High Schools that have a pool..

This is truly amazing and those cards and little stories and pics from the entire school class by class was heartwarming and this was absolutely amazing to watch this video. Sounds like the mics got stereo mixed. Normally they are mono so both channels get the same audio

Simply terrific job guys. Pool looks wonderful & ready for kids to enjoy. New equipment to keep the water fresh. And thousands of mosquito larvae stopped to keep the community safer.
This brings back some memories. Decades ago, in the height of my fishkeeping hobby, I had ten freshwater aquariums at home and probably 400 fish. I had studied the hobby for years, collected 20 or so books, etc. I was really into it and my co-workers knew all about it. One of my co-workers had been renting a room in a house and the pool hadn't been maintained in years and was a bright emerald green. She told me the landlady was going to finally have the pool cleaned, so now was my chance. I arrived with a net and some plastic bags and rubber bands and I left with probably 200 live mosquito larvae. I fed these to my fish and they loved it so much that it inspired them to breed the next day. I gave the leftover larvae to the pet store who had helped my hobby grow. Good times.

Learning to swim SAVES LIVES. Its not just a fun activity that keeps kids out of trouble, it prevents tragedy. Youve done a great thing. Edited to add: can you weigh in the old filter for the value of the metal? Looks like it weighs a bit!
A brickmaker also prevents roofs from falling onto people their heads. And a toilet cleaner also saves lives by not having people afraid to go to the bathroom and thus crapping on footpaths on which someone may slip and break their neck. I think you’re stretching the hero factor quite much.

Swimming pools at schools are becoming rare nowadays, the one at my old high school is being taken down 😞 like so many have said on here swimming lessons are life savers and confidence building and so much more so what you did even without a sponsor will bring so much to those children for years to come and will even save lives. Learning how to swim is so important, it’s a shame many schools don’t have the funds to clean their pools so they can use them. Lucky kids with a pool at there school. Being in the UK though and having it outdoors is a-bit of a strange move though … We had a pool at secondary school, however the year before I attended the school the roof caved in and damaged the pool etc, so they ended up filling it in instead and used as gymnastics hall.
Total respect for you. Giving back sometimes costs us. But in the long term this will come back to you. It is also worth noting that it is appalling that successive governments have allowed school facilities to deteriorate due to lack of /a squeeze in funding. Shameful

Fully agree, especially for in-need special clients like this one who can't afford the job themselves.
