I made the mistake of introducing it to our cat, which was slightly smaller than the bunny in size. The moment the cat saw it, it attacked. The attack happened so fast that none of us knew for sure what happened. What we knew for sure was that the bunny died immediately without any visible wound, even though we separated them immediately after the cat pounded on the bunny. To this day I still speculate if the bunny died because it's neck was snapped or because of a heart attack. Cats are vicious predators.

We did stress 'gentle claws/teeth'' every time we let them interact, but I expect them to listen as well as a small child. Especially the more wild ones. A well fed and treated kitty tends to pose less of a threat to other small pets. And you can increase your luck by taking the time to socialize them appropriately. • some cats may ACTUALLY be gentle, but not most cats, THAT'S what we need to understand, it's dangerous to put a fake impression on the internet about Animals, and also we should not believe everything on the internet comments, imagine a person keeps cats near small chicks and goes out? Because he she saw on the internet that Cats care for them then they come home and see that the chicks are no longer there and some feathers stuck in cat's mouth, they would loose move for the cat and think that the cat is crazy, but it's just a natural instinct and we need to understand and be careful, then we would be able to have love for the cats.

    • But they know. I have 3 cats and 1 parrot, (we used to have 2 until one passed away) and even if the birds smell like dinner to the cats, they have never made an intimidating move toward the bird. They like watching the outdoor birds, like they're "cat TV", but when the 2 larger cats go out into the back yard, they only look at the birds sometimes, but don't approach them at the feeders. (I bird watch a lot when I'm out on the porch or deck, so I also see the cats, and the birds don't hold much interest to them when they aren''t lacking for food.) Likely this doesn't apply to all or even most cats, but mine have been around our birds under supervision enough that they seem to "get it", so that even in proximity to the bird, they regard him as one of the guys. Partly it's because a well fed and domesticated cat's hunting instinct is much reduced when there's no need to hunt..

  • This is such an interesting video. The cat was being so gentle, grooming them, not using claws. When the hen walked in, she didn't panic. She seemed more curious than anything, she walked over and watched the cat and her kids. The cat even looked back at the hen and closed her eyes, like she was trying to tell the hen she meant no harm. This and the fact that the hen started closing it's eyes, which birds do to signal trust. It shows that these animals trust each other completely, even in the presence of their kids. This video has completely changed my view on cats and their prey drive. Like dogs, it seems they also have a high level of emotional awareness, and can have impulse control over their instincts. Cute video, but also a crazy example of animal behavior between predator and prey.

    @magicdolphin3090@magicdolphin30903 ай бұрын
    • For cats, when it involves animals that should be their preys, it's a bit more complicated than that. Even with the best work and socialization, it will mainly be a balance between prey drive and caretaking behaviors. Also, most prey drive in cats is triggered by something small moving quickly. Anything big or slow will not trigger them unless they've learned to hunt it before. I had a cat with high caretaking behaviors and high prey drive. She would never harm "fluff ball" chicken, but those same chicken starting to grow their first feathers would trigger her prey drive at the first run. Then, once the chicken became adults, they wouldn't fit the "prey" category (too big for that), and she would stop being triggered by them. And you can't really do something about a cat's prey drive. They are between prey and predator, most of their behaviors linked to hunting and flight are reflexes rooted in genetic, because in the wild, they can't have the luxury to stop and think about what they'll do. They can have true emotional awareness and impulse control with animals that aren't preys. Like, my current cat has a low-to-medium level of caretaking behaviors, she has an insanely high prey drive. I still do animal assisted therapy with her, because she's a really sociable cat, specially with young humans (she's the kind of cat that will see a 2yo and *run* to greet them, even if she doesn't know the kid). She loves interacting with others, be part of the group. She's really amazing at reading the room, reading people, reading other animals, reading me, and adapting her behavior to what she understands of the situation. She's great with teenagers, anxious adults, etc. It happened more than once that she changed a behavior I taught her, or did a thing I never trained her to do, but it was the right thing at the right time. One thing that blew my mind is that she wasn't socialized to dogs when she was young, I don't have dogs at home, she had more bad encounters than good, but she's still great with them. She met her first one at 6-7 months old, she took some time to observe, and since then, she has been really, really good at adapting her behavior to the age of the pup, to recognize the "polite, dumb or predator" posture displayed, and also to change her communication so she could be more understandable (she uses her ears A LOT with dogs, and that's one part of the body language both species share a lot of similarities).

      @C-G1894@C-G18943 ай бұрын
    • While the comment above put it far better than I ever could, it's really not that simple. I've heard horror stories of people's cats, who were otherwise "extremely friendly", kill and eat baby chicks. It would legitimately shock the owner, as their cat's were normally "so sweet". Honestly, I'm fairly sure that, similarly to dogs, genetics and personality (both often intrinsically tied) are a big factor here, alongside training and social exposure. Dogs that are well bred from reputable breeders are often much more *naturally* well behaved. Of course, that's not to say that mutts or any other kind of dog is "bad" or can't ever be naturally sweet. It's just more of a guarantee that they'll be easier to train and have more inherently positive traits than negative ones. Why would cats be any different in that regard?

I think the chicks just got confused about who their mom was and they were cold and maybe enjoying the soft and different fur of the cat as opposed to its mother the chicken who has feathers. I am so proud that the Hen did not peck the cat. The cat is a sweet heart.

    • People also are able to do these things. Problem is we live in quiet rotten world. We are not able to control ourselfes. Also dont think that people are bad and animals are good. It all depends on personalities. Animals are also able to do cruel things (even for pure fun), they are animals just like we are.

      @burnman1915@burnman19153 ай бұрын
    • @BlackoPl21 there is no comparison between humans and animals when it comes to cruelty. Don’t be naive. Animals can be brutal of course but they don’t know any better (they generally only ever kill for food, territory, defending their young etc) and they have nothing on humans when it comes to cruelty and killing for fun - humans kill billions of animals annually for many different reasons, and usually not humanely (for food, fashion, sport, entertainment, experimentation etc etc). We inflict torturous and prolonged suffering on animals before dispatching them and obviously we kill many of our own species too. The human-animal is the most vicious, sadistic and predatory species ever to blight this planet (on the whole as a species). Obviously we cover the full spectrum and there are many good people too but nobody does cruelty like the worst specimens of the human species (of which there are just as many). It is not just about “personalities”..!!
