It's okay to change your mind in college. I've decided to pick something that better suits my needs.

  • You're definitely right about corporations wanting the farmers to keep buying their products, but I don't think that's THE reason. Permaculture is great and all, Organic Farming and what not, but the only way we're going to be food secure at the moment is stil through these products, especially fertilizers. That's just the way it's going to be at the moment. Not only would it take way more land to grow the same crops, the productivity is way lower and the yields as well. Don't get me wrong, it's an absolute must to become more organic and hopefully through technology we can find a good way to keep the same yields but at the moment it's not a bad idea to keep teaching about original methods. :)

    • I'm not advocating for immediate transition, these things take time, but it's the consumers that deturmine how quickly or slowly that transition happens. It would take far less land than we have now to feed the people with plant-based agriculture in relation to animal agriculture. The yield of crops that we could produce in a smaller area, with regenerative ag and multi-cropping is higher than animal ag, and the resources used is less in comparison to animal ag. You need to consider the hundreds of thousands of hectares of land dedicated to just feeding large ruminant creatures alone, and consider that animal products are also exported from the US. We need to ween ourselves off of the dependancy and addiction to unsustainable agriculture and unfit diets. For that the people need education. Thank you for your comments, this is definitely a conversation worth having and getting the facts right to prevent the spread of misinformation.
