Golden retriever Cooper's seizure

●update Nov 2018.. 2+yrs later: Cooper continues to have seizures regularly. However, now he sometimes has a couple back to back in 1 day. Additionally, now after one he no longer pops up and acts like whats up? He is affected longer. He'll wobble and sometimes does circles as he walks to his destination. Also as of just a month-ish ago, he now deficates almost immediately after coming to. He's never had potty accidents in the house but if I don't immediately get him out the door, he can't hold it. He pottied on the porch last night bcz he couldn't make it to the steps and into the yard.
A new development as of last night's seizure: usually Coop is very hungry sget coming to, resting, going potty outside and drinking. But after last night's seizure he was voracious! He was actually super defiant, tenacious, and..... aggressive! He kept aggressively trying to get the food I had on my plate and on the counter. Though still weak and wobbly; I found him standing on his hind legs trying to get something off the counter. This is a first ever for him as he's usually very mild mannered and very well behaved. Trained to the point of obeying my hand signals.
But he wouldn't give up (even after I DID feed him as I always do after a seizure). He'd go to one side of me or the table and try.. i'd scold, he'd go to the other side. Over and over till one point I was actually thinking his next move would be aggressive.
🔵🎶🎵🎤 pardon my singing on these videos
Of all things I've tried to bring him out of a seizure, I've found that if I sing "Monday Morning" by Death Cab for Cutie - he is more calm & he comes to much quicker.
🚩🚩⚠️⚠️WARNING!
Video may be disturbing to some sensitive viewers.
🚫NOTE: I delete negative comments, trolls, nasties and the like.
I do not have to explain myself to anyone, therefore, negative comments & opinions carry no weight.
I video my golden retriever - Cooper - having seizures for a few reasons:
1. When he had his 1st one, I immediately wanted to know if others did too and if he was having anything more unusual or different. So scared, worried and sad, I googled and KZhead'd for dog seizure videos, help for dog seizures, etc etc. I want to be able to be there for others experiencing this scary time in their pets lives as others were for me by posting THEIR video.
2. I record so that I can time the length. While recording there is a running timer.
3. I record so that I may provide my vet with the video. It's way better and more acurate than just describing what happened.
4. I WILL use these as evidence to hopefully help other pet parents and deter people from using HARTZ products.
🆘️🆘️🚩⚠️Please visit HARTZvictims.org and see the jaw dropping amounts of pets and people harmed by these products that are allowed on store shelves.
One day about 3 months ago (edited due to time passed) Aug 2016 we used flea shampoo by Hartz.
Within four hours our golden retriever who is 4 1/2 years old had his first seizure that he had ever had.
Fast forward .....now it is November and he has had at LEAST one or more seizures every week since. These are the ones we know of and are there to witness. I do know that he has had them when I am gone during the day & at work. I know because I come home and there is evidence that he has eliminated during the muscle spasms.
This one and the one last week were two of the hardest & longest seizures I've witnessed him have.
After he came to, I took him outside and cleaned him with warm water and dr. Bronner's pure Castile soap to get rid of the sticky saliva, urine and adrenaline smell.
I then recorded a 30 or 40 second clip of how he is just walking in circles or weaving back and forth while walking and circling.
That video is posted here too.

  • The started to happen to my golden retriever, Sunshine, four months ago. I thought he was dying at first until he came back to a few minutes later. Now I know what is happening and have the courage to see him through. My heart breaks with compassion for him. Thank you much for sharing this. This gives me even more courage to see my precious Sunny through his episodes.

  • hi. this is a very late comment but we just found that my dog had a seizure while my mum and dad were trying to go on a honeymoon, and while our dog had the seizure, the dog trainer my dog stayed with got the whole seizure on camera and im genuinely terrified to watch it, as my dog is my best friend, seeing him in that state is terrifying. he’s doing better now, he’s on medication, and this video helped me a lot to know what to expect. thank you

  • I got a dog with my family in 2016 (A White Golden Retriever, She was born on February 15, 2016, We named her Sofi, she was not very old and she started having seizures and stuff, her age from 1-3/4 was really great with minor seizures, when she was turned 5 everything went a lot worse, she was sick, a lot of hospital trips, (From her early ages we had to give her 2 pills morning and evening when she was 4 we started giving her like 5pills every morning and evening EVERY day, and it was not cheap, If Sofi would've been with a different family she would have already been put down but we did everything to keep her alive). Umm when she was 6, she couldn't walk around a lot (this started in like July/august) she couldn't spend a lot of time outside her toiled and habits were messed up and she would sometimes pee in her sleep. Fast forwarding to december 2021, we knew that she wouldnt last wery long, we were considering putting her down so it won't hurt her as much (She was 6) umm december 14 2021 before I went to school in the morning I said goodbay to my dowg when I was abount to go to school, and kinda just in case something would happen, the school was great, it was math and stuff, but when got home I sam that my dog's bed was missing and there were candles everywhere, I went to the living room and saw my mom cryng, I asked her whats up?, my mom sayd that Sofi had passed away (december 14, a couple days earlier when we planned to put her down) and the cause was that her Intestins failed, I dont know if she died with fain or not, now writing this on the 5th of march 2022, I know that shes in a better place with her friends that already have passed away (her best friends passed away not long ago at age 16) We have her ashes in a wooden box near a picture of her and every evening we light candles around it. It's sad that she died pretty early and rather alone, I still to this day look up to the sky and tell hello sometimes and cant wait to die so I could meet her for another time. I know how it feels to lose someone who you really REALLY love. It Hurts And I'm really sorry for yall losses to

    • @@DJRICKOREMIXMartinez thank you for asking. This video is from when Coop first started having seizures. I'll admit I'm a bit embarrassed looking back. The beginning of the video I was a bit high strung. But he'd just begun having them and was having 2 to 3 back to back multiple times a week. Cooper still has seizures but they've lessened in frequency. They are NOT predictable or rather -we can't figure out any trigger. I can sometimes tell anywhere from 2 to 48 hours before because he gets really clingy. like not wanting to by himself at first... Not even as far away that our bodies are aren't in contact. And then all of the sudden he'll go off and kind of lay or stay in a weird place in the house. Weird - like in a hallway that's not frequently used, or the middle of the floor in an empty room... Off my himself. Then usually by the next day he has a couple seizures. Years later, I've become much more calm. I'm also able to to bring him out of one faster now by singing the song that he loves. I sing it every morning during our morning snuggle time when Daddy brings him into bed. On a whim I tried it one time during a siezure and it really seemed to help him. So I do it during reach one now.

    • Not during. But he does get really thirsty after he has a seizure. I always give him something to eat as well. 1. Because having a seizure is like running a triathlon- tensing and using all those muscles is exhausting. And 2. Because he always has blood in his mouth after from biting his tongue- I want to help him get that taste out of his mouth. He's always confused as to why he "comes to" with blood in his mouth and a sore tongue.

  • Hi. My golden is just 1 year and 5 months and he just had a seizure. Is it that likely to have seizure to occur at such a young age ? What age was cooper when he first had his seizure ?

    @abhiier9107@abhiier9107 Жыл бұрын
    • Our Golden started having aggressive seizures at about a year old. With medication he has only had one in the last six months (slightly less aggressive and only lasted about 2 minutes instead of the close to 5 without medication). It is pretty hard to watch but staying calm and comforting them is really the best thing for your puppers and yourself. Hes going to be exhausted and confused when he comes to so being calm and confident will translate to your dog.

  • Are seizures common for golden retrievers?

    • Yes. Unfortunately it is a common thing once they hit 2 or 3 years. But cooper's were caused by HARTS brand.. flea shampoo and meds!!! There's a website of SOOOO many people who've experienced TERRIBLE results to their pets and themselves have been harmed by their products

  • We are really past the stage as a species where we need to purpose-breed dogs. It’s so very sad to see that we are going in the opposite direction and becoming more obsessed with “pure breds” whose lives and well being is perpetually at risk from their being predisposed to serious diseases and health conditions. I hope this beautiful golden is happy and well. It certainly has loving owners but please people, realise that every dog is an absolute joy regardless of their pedigree. Please adopt your local breeds and strays. You’d never regret it ❤
