Iga Swiatek has been a saving grace for the 2022 WTA season.
The season began with Ash Barty solidifying her status as a dominant world number one and promptly retiring. But few could have predicted how quickly the void atop the women's game would be filled.
Between mid-February and early July, Swiatek won 37 straight matches, spanning six titles. Although everyone would've benefitted from a long-term Swiatek-Barty rivalry, Swiatek's rise made Barty's departure easier to swallow.
But what has made Iga Swiatek the most dominant player on the WTA tour in 2022?

It's tennis. But viewed differently.

The numbers are scarrryyy, for someone who's not overly muscular or tall it's even more impressive to generate so much power on shots. May the reign of Iga continue.
Likely not because something is going to break.
@@rob4197 Yes, her opponents.
@@rob4197 you like to be "nice"
Every one loves Iga!😁
Stumbled upon this channel. Definitely some of the best Tennis content here.
Wait a great explosion. Iga is here to stay for sure and she is becoming a monster with her service now
Iga will be at the top for years to come a true star
Let’s go 1GA 💙
Great video here. Only thing missing I think is discussion of her devastating returns, especially on 2nd serves, as well as her ability to slide and hit aggressive shots that would be more defensive for 99% of players on the tour (similar to Novaks sliding technique)
Her movement is incredible. Keep on the lookout for our Djokovic sliding video......
@@BaselineTennis I’ll stay tuned in for sure
WTA 2nd serves are weak, Iga is not the only one to get winners (see Garcia especially)
I didn't know Gil worked with you guys! Awesome! Great content as always.
This is fantastic stuff! Looking forward to more
Superb analysis
Wow, great analysis!
Wonderful breakdown! One of the best tennis analyses I've ever seen!
Very poetic script, and great visuals/editing. Great job!
AmaIng video as always, keep them coming, love from Perú
Would like to have a link to those numbers and shots ranking. Iga's fast moves is her second major strengh, as Vekic said "I hit an Iga Swiatek wall".
Not to mention the unconfortable and out of strikezone shot that heavy forhands creates .Un top of these advances it makes it much more easy to make short angels . Just love to see Iga play .!
1GA❤❤❤
Very informative!
Another great video!!!
The best appereance of nowadays tennis. See ya.
One thing I noticed is thar there were power players back in the 00s, Williams Sisters, Sharapova, Davenport, etc. But upon seeing older videos. I dont think the power players back then takes excessive risks like the power players today. I watched Serena's videos against many big hitting players of the 00s, she seems to hold back the majority of the point and she only attacks when the time is right. Many of the big hitting players these days makes way too many risky shots. You got to know when to attack, when to defend, when to slow down the pace of your shots. It cant be big hitting shots all the time. That is where the 2010s female players dont get in my opinion. The type of game they play is very risky. It is superb when they are in their best form but 90% of the time, they will make unbelievable amount of unforced errors. It is not a sustainable game plan. And yes I do agree. The way she plays is like a guy.
RPM - shouldn’t we call it rotations per minute instead of revolutions per minute?
Technically we should, however we can blame whoever started using Revolutions Per Minute in tennis analytics for that fault!
@@BaselineTennis I think R in RPM refers to revolutions in many situations -- car speedometer, for example
What Gill? Don't expect that 😂
Muscle girl Sakkari just slaps away these "heavy" balls like any others. But I can see heavy balls being very effective against the majority of the WTA players.
when definetly not this year.... pretty sure that muscle girl hasn't won a lot of matches after she was humbled in that Indian wells final.
@@Kiki-lo5xb I think there are "clay" courts that are faster than Indian Wells'! They use male/more fuzzy balls there?
Huh?
Have you seen Samsonova's forehand? It's the best I've seen! Iga is a great player but Samsonova just routed a player that was on a 15 match winning streak. A player that had won 26 of her last 27 sets.
And Iga got 37 match winning streak.... On elite tournaments
it’s not about “I’ve seen” iga has the stats mph and rpm, that’s a deeper analysis. It’s literally explained in the video lol
@@stef2330 Samsonova has more gas on her serve it's common for her to serve in 120s. Both her forehand and backhand are big but that forehand is just scary. It's bigger than IGA's. Plus unlike other tall players she's a very good mover around the court. Fast to drop shots and deadly off the ground. I think the reast of the WTA players are figuring out how to play IGA who is just about .500 W/L in her last three tournaments. Players that have attacking styles have been giving IGA fits.
@@sano1062 well not consistently enough bc she only won two titles in her career and those are 250s and idk about her fh. and regarding iga she is just having her expected slump I don’t see players doing that much when she either hits the ball out or to the net, maybe she is burnout who knows but she is not in form atm.
@@stef2330 She took IGA to a 3rd set in a extremely close match in Germany and that's when IGA was on that run. I would be shocked if she doesn't make it to the Fourth Round.
Wahoo an other super interesting topic, thank you very much ! Go Guys they really deserve *your Sub* to get more attention from KZhead algorithm. Lets this clever channel gets the success it deserves
Much appreciated!
