Here in Norway they have been arguing against lead for many years,,we lost lead shot in ca 2003 ,but got it back in recent years, dont let them take it away as it is ome step on road towards weapon ban. Lot of injured game it was, faulty cartridges, bloodpoisnoning on game, injured shooters and unreliable gun pressures. Bad shot pattern, and dental injuries from biting into game with shot in them hidden. And ammo cost of say Vismuth was horrendous. Keep the lead, dont let them remove it in any way
Basc won't listen...they are "environmentally woke". Maybe they will team up with Greta next.

I'm just like the clay shot on here love shooting my dad's basically given up (not very good) and I'm a very good clay shot but I just need to go to a comp and work on my game shooting

Lead has been banned in Denmark for more than 20 years now. You don’t have the same amount of impact as in lead, wich means birds have to be nearer to be sure that it is dead. Especially when using Bismuth. Older guns can have problems with high performance shells.
Great show, watching Sam Green's balanced, unhurried mount and swing reminds me why I have been missing this season. On the steel shot front, here's a query for the wonderful Fieldsports Nation, I have Miroku guns that stated lead shot only on them when I took delivery. They were fixed choke but I have had them Teagued and re-proofed, so if I shoot them with open chokes e.g. skeet and quarter will they be okay for steel?
I think a some hard steel fact finding is required Colin...we've been discussing it. No help to u in short term though..sorry about that. Glad you liked the show and u are right Sam was silky smooth.
Only thing to do is check the wall thickness and weather the barrel on good healthy order, they should be fine with standard steel shot loads, now higher pressure loads, I would not recommend unless the barrels are marked, miroku use very high quality steel so to use with standard loads be fine with no more than quarter choke to be safe
Definitely wont Colm i am afraid . I had the same snag and i have to buy a new set of barrels at a hefty price as the gun makers know they have you by the short and curleys

Well after my performance on bearers day yesterday I think I need some coaching from sam haha. I wish we could have a hunter harassment law like France. I don’t know if we are pushing for anything like this or not?
What grams u use in your shot shells ?
In Malta we do not have wet lands and were there are a few water pools, they are reserves for birds with no shooting from 500 meters away from their borders. Malta is a very small Island 19 miles by 11 miles across and Gozo Island is even much smaller. Surrounded with sea, which it seems that even near sea one can not use lead. This make shooting much more dangerous due to the bouncing reflection of steel pallets when they hit solid rock like our shores. Unlike in wet lands were steel pallets does not do this bouncing effects. On the other hand lead when it is shot on hard surface such as solid rock it compacts and loses much of it's bouncing force. Maltese FKNK hunters association have presented a report to EU about all of this. I ask if this lead banning is also for Army and Police ammunition?
I think we have to accept that using lead will cease. If we do not decide to do it ourselves it will be imposed , and it just looks like we are stuck in the past. PS the news item about the cheetahs. The final shot where a silhouette of a cat is shown...... that’s a leopard. Thicker body neck and skull ...... keep it up and fight the good fight
The main difference in the US with steel and Lead is just price and effectiveness. You must use two shot sizes larger than lead. And it must be propelled much faster. It has come down in price but is not equal to lead. When it's legal to use lead I do. Waterfowl is what it's required for and certain areas in each state. Don't give an inch they'll take a mile.
Thats how we WILL lose our shooting and hunting.... one inch at a time, BASC are too stupid to realise that, NO shooting NO BASC.
Effective range amd pattern of steel aside, what do basc and co expect people with older guns not proofed for steel to do? Cost for re-proofing? New barrels?
Even guns from the 1950's can usually easily handle steel as long as you aren't feeding it 32+ gram loads of high speed steel. My personal primary gun is a Winchester 101 from 1970 and has fired at least 50 000 steel rounds with no issues, my first ever repair is the ejector that broke. I also have a 1954 s/s that has also been fed its share of steel in my hands, it seems from our perspective to be a non issue.
It wasn't just antis who threatend the saami, there was a lot of hunters and fishermen too. They are most likely in majority.

the problem with steel is the range and effectiveness plus chokings you cant shoot more the 1/2 choke in most guns and older guns plus cost
the range is better than lead if you use the correct shot size, some chokes will shoot super full in steel..

A bit peedoff with BASC promoting steel as if it's a good thing, it's not, it's pretty useless on 'good' birds. Comparing it to a ban on leaded petrol, really? Anyone that says different is probably sponsored by someone else promoting steel. BASC need to spend more time and money (that included my money as a member) promoting all the pro's of lead. Banning lead will just be another nail in the coffin. What will the next thing be that BASC etc bow down too?
Its the same as fishing mate they want to ban all lead in fishing and the ppl calling for the ban are the ones that make alternatives and charge 3 to 4 times more.
@@markmason13 the difference is, we need the lead as it gives much cleaner kills when we shoot our quarry. Using the best stuff to dispatch our quarry is important. Obviously not to some.

TIL Most Danes and the Danish hunting association is sponsored by someone. Steel is fit for purpose just realize you need a bit more speed (Say above 410 M/s) we have been using it for many years with only a few issues in the first few years due to bad ammo quality.

The applications where steel is necessary are very few. Requirements for non-toxic shot in the US were based on bad science and very little of it. Y'all need to replace your boy in BASC with someone who isn't an anti-hunter.
