Cube1337x has beaten Brentilda's world record in Minecraft 1.16 Any% RSG. It took 9 months, but the second sub ten finally happened, and Cube's 9:08 stands alone as the greatest run in 1.16 history.

  • The fact that the nether split in this run is over 2 minutes slower than horsey's wr nether split really shows how far the category can still be pushed.

    @jakkeboy3651@jakkeboy36512 жыл бұрын
    • This isn't even correct. Cube entered nether about 1:45 and left about 7:45 including the double travel (I'm rounding a bit), so 6 minutes. Brentilda entered about 2:45 and left about 8:15, so 5.5 minutes. 30 seconds difference, not two minutes. And it furthermore ignores the double travel in cube's run, which deliberately adds nether time in order to reduce overworld time. Cube's original blind -- exactly how he would have played the seed if the chests had had six obsidian instead of 16 -- was at about 6:45. 5 minutes in the nether, so faster than Brentilda. Their actual times in the nether not counting any kind of post-fortress-split travel at all are very close (because Brentilda had to travel to the divine coords). Yeah, hypothetical nether splits faster than Cube's in this run are very possible. He's shown that himself in other runs, so have many others. But this isn't an illustration of it.

  • The Weekly Thing is so kind to the speedrunning community, with it's viewers and runners alike. They always give so many compliments to each and every runner that gets a good run, even to the runners who don't, and it's heartwarming. A sub-10 may be better than a sub-20 but the thing about why all speedrunners will always be the best is because each speedrunner is always, quite literally, just ahead of their time.

  • Nice video, few additions/clarifications for those who care a lot about the details: All of the strats I’ll mention here have been invented since Brent’s WR. 3:57 The Wall macro used by Cube was invented by jojoe77777, popularized/developed by Specnr 4:20 Mapless invented by Makattak and TalkingMime 6:00 Bridge is mostly still considered the worst bastion overall, even after this run. One noteworthy thing about this run is Bridge has the worst chance to get 20 Obsidian due to its relative lack of chests, yet Cube easily got 20 obby. 8:36 Task overlapping hoglin kill with trades isn’t done very often (mostly due to circumstance) but is a pretty nice timesave. 8:47 He actually has 6 explosives (3 anchors and 3 beds) but only crafts 5 at the end fight. 9:32 WillBe invented this Wither Skeleton AI manip strat 11:09 There does exist a method for doing perfect travel in one’s head, but it is considered too difficult to do in runs (for good reason). 11:16 Prior to calculators being unbanned, Cube was one of the earliest top runners to start using Perfect. He did this using a spreadsheet which contains each angle and the possible stronghold locations. 12:45 700 blocks is only a bit better than average of 1000, but the 99% is quite good, average is 70%. If his accuracy were lower he might’ve thrown an additional eye. 700 is still pretty good because of the good terrain to the coordinates and because of him having double travel. 13:28 The stronghold nav in this run is really really good and linear, which saved him a ton of time. 13:41 He could’ve gone for zero cycle, another strat invented since brent’s WR, mostly by Matthew bolan and t_wagz with his 6 explosives but chose not to. And thanks for the credit on perfect, shouting out strat developers is always appreciated.

Rsg is about a runner who knows how to beat the game as fast as possible by using a random seat with the same odds of beating the game as everyone else. Calculators just take away a very unique and difficult skill. Before it was allowed it was a big hustle for runners to calculate well and now we just play tas. This isnt great at all. Despite all that cubes run was insane and he deserves the wr but i just had to say it because from my point of view calculators arent allowed in a math test when it is about calculating. • You can beat it this time without calculators. Illumina was on faster pace once, so was Dylqn, probably some of the other fast ends/strongholds as well from runners I don't know as much about. As far as I know the consensus is still that the fastest time that will ever be obtained will probably be something like a low 5 blind directly from the spawners that leads into an ocean overworld less than 300 blocks from an ocean-exposed portal room. Enter end sub 6, or maybe a little above if the player has to set up for zero cycle. In that scenario, the non-calculator runner is a few seconds faster since they just throw one eye for rough direction and go. The question is likelihood and I don't think anybody's settled that yet. Double travel calculator runs are infinitely more reliable when possible, but they do take time to carry out. Less than a minute from first portal to second portal like here is on the fast side by a bit. I wish they would have split the categories, though.

We don't need people who know nothing about speedrunning coming in with ignorant comments like that it "makes RNG completely luck based" like 1. I think you mean RSG and 2. it actually reduces luck factors by a lot. Or thinking it's unfair to previous runs when there isn't a single previous run aside from Brentilda's within almost a minute (way more time than the bot saved, assuming he could have hit the stronghold with a manual method from 700 blocks -- a decent chance if not a certainty). And when Brentilda's record had its own issues in that regard, having made use of pause rules that subsequent runners couldn't take advantage of. There are plenty of problems and plenty of unfairness to go around, but you're not informed enough to have an opinion on it.

Perfect travel can and has been done all the time without a calculator so this run was not made by the calculator. Most people who have this opinion saw that Karl Jobst video and decided to just believe what he believed. I like Karl, but that video is so misinformed it’s insane, it’s his worst video imo. Anyone actually in the community knows that this has been done before many times without a calculator, thats why only people outside the community who don’t know what they are talking about care so much more than the actual runners. @idoGutman22@idoGutman222 жыл бұрын
    • But it isn’t. TAS has a specific definition where the game is modified with additional tools that allow the runner to play with slowdown or add frame by frame inputs etc. If we are going to redefine the term so that any external tool used in a speedrun makes it TAS then any speedrun that uses an external timer is also a TAS.

      @morbideddie@morbideddie2 жыл бұрын
    • @@morbideddie No, my friend. A speedrun with a timer Isn't considered a TAS because the timer doesn't make you faster. "TAS" has no one defenition, but lets go with yours: "TAS has a specific definition where the game is modified with additional tools that allow the runner to play..." -FASTER. It has nothing to do with slowdowns or frames. You're confused because you're used to seeing TAS's that people made to try and achieve a perfect run (In games like TMNF or SMB), but not all TAS's are like that. If a tool gives you an advantage and makes you faster, then It's a TAS, even if it's played in real time. That's it. But I do get it that when the whole community agrees on using a certain tool than it should be allowed, I'm not arguing that, but you do have to call it by its name: A tool assisted speedrun. Have a beautiful day my friend.

      @idoGutman22@idoGutman222 жыл бұрын
    • @@idoGutman22 a timer is a tool, you are using it to assist you, it’s a tool assisted run. The runners current time can be a major factor in making decisions and the decisions you make directly impact and improve the final time of the run. And what about other things like reset macros? They allow you to cycle seeds faster to find more viable seeds which is a major factor in getting a good time. If you are going to have a broad definition of TAS then those fit within that definition. As for the other definition, that isn’t my definition, you have made your own definition and put it in my mouth. Timers and reset macros fit in too since they also allow for a faster run, plus the calculator is not a mod by my understanding, it’s an external tool. Like you said, TAS has no one definition, yet you seem to think that your definition is the only viable one, even though it’s not what the community generally uses. The definition you put forward where this is a TAS but a timer isn’t is arbitrary and not the definition generally used. More than anything I hate how any nuance is being stripped from this conversation. Instead of discussing the merits and downsides of the calculator, which I’m generally not a fan of being unbanned, people just throw around terms with no explanation and/or thought. And they do so in a way that disparages runners who are simply playing the game and following the rules the community has given them. Not targeting you specifically there but it’s a trend that is becoming all to common. Hope you have a good weekend, all the best.

      @morbideddie@morbideddie2 жыл бұрын
    • @@morbideddie Well, I didn't mean to put anything in your mouth, so I'll apologize to that extent my friend. Back to the topic: I draw the distinction between a timer and macros and the tools used in the speedrun by how and how much it effects the decision making of the runner. Obviously a timer can change a runners decision making process for the better, and obviously a reset macro makes speedruns easier, but that's not the point - both of them don't make the desicions FOR the runner. On the other hand, the tool were talking about gives you cords (specific numbers), and eliminates any decision making - just go to the best cords the tool gives you and win. You and I both know MC speedrunning is crazy competitive and heavily RNG based, so runners need to reset A LOT. It has gotten to the point where you need crazy luck and skill combined with decent brain math skills to be competitive, and I get why a lot of people don't find it fun the "vanilla" way. The definition of TAS speedruns are community based - if the majority of the community agrees on it not being a TAS, then the speedrun is valid and leaderboard safe, and I'm not arguing that's It's not. I just think that people need to be honest about the tools used and not try to change the definition of the term itself, broadening it so much that it loses its meaning. BTW I'm glad I got into an internet argument with the one civilized person on KZhead and I'm sorry if im hard to understand, English is my second language.

      @idoGutman22@idoGutman222 жыл бұрын
    • @@idoGutman22 basing your definition on the decision process is an interesting distinction. Especially valid in MC RSG since decision making is such an essential part of the run. While the definition is still arbitrary it’s what id call a useful definition. That said I don’t think it really strengthens the argument against calculators. The way manual calculation works is you throw eyes and use the angle change to triangulate the stronghold position. This doesn’t require the runner to make any meaningful decisions, the numbers they calculate from have a set solution. Whereas the NB calculator used instead gives a number of possible locations with a spread of the likelihood, the runner has to decide whether they want to take the risk vs throw another eye for confirmation. The calculator actually gives the runner more decisions to make, not make them for the runner. I agree about honesty regarding tools and techniques, as long as runners and the community are transparent it’s fine. If there is one thing to learn from the early attempts to moderate speedrunning it’s that letting communities self moderate and make their own rules will generally create a healthier community. I’m not a big fan of calculators but I think arguments for their conclusion are valid and if the community makes the decision then that is up to them. I don’t think the inclusion of calculators really changes the definition of TAS since I think it falls outside of the normal definition anyway. A TAS has always been used as a short hand for modified games with theoretically prefect runs so the definition has always excluded other forms of tools like timers etc. The allowance of calculators in the leaderboards doesn’t do anything to broaden or narrow the definition. Whereas claims that the run is TAS are infact arguing for a broadening of the current definition of what the term TAS means. And likewise, I’m glad to be having this chat. And no need to apologise for your English, it’s excellent, better than most native speakers (myself included).

No other game does that and I really don't like the idea to use a bot to show you the most likely coordinates for the stronghold. It's effectively makes the run a tool assisted Speedrun and makes the run easier which defeats the point of speedrunning: competition.

    @Nitsu29@Nitsu292 жыл бұрын
    • A few games use tools to make the runs faster or more consistent. Wind waker is a prime example, and speaking of prime Metroid at least used to allow tools for the randomised maze section. This is not a new precedent. Outside of that tools have been allowed for a long time. People adding reticules to their tv’s for goldeneye, tables for divine travel coords. Even the timer is a tool since knowing how your run is going might factor into your decision making process. A TAS is when you use tools to change or alter the game directly, that’s not the case here, it’s not a TAS. This is still a competition, the calculator is open for anyone to use, the playing field is level. In no way does this make it less of a competition.
