In the last years, I've developed a deep friendship with an 85 years old man in Bali, the grandfather of a dear friend native of the island. This old and skinny man is indeed a silat expert, and sometimes, when I ask, he honours me showing some movements. Those two guys have something in common in the way they both smile and in the way they move. I wrote an article on Kaki, as I call my friend's grandfather, and shot him some pictures, but national geographic - the Italian one - wasn't interested. Those people have something more than normal people, and they should be respected like living monuments since they represent the highest points humanity can achieve in some of its cultural and athletic expressions. I wish good luck to all of them and I say thanks for sharing their art.

Despite the traditional roots of Silat, I love how it seems to value practicality also. Most of this would be 100% viable in a streetfight, it shows aggression, manipulation of your opponent and their aggression, situational awareness and pragmatism in some aspects. Those are all traits of the most effective martial arts for practical self-defence. The only draw back is that this looks hard to learn, a challenge for certain, but a worthwhile one for any willing to learn.

I wish good luck to all of them and I say thanks for sharing their art.

the man from John Wick! I heard many good things about this humble master :-) cheers from the Philippines
On point
Silat's on it's root was created for self defence in tight and confined spaces ( hot , humid and dense tropical jungles ) that is the very reason why it was aplicable in the modern street fight . I do not condone violence ... But , man has to have somerhing they could fall back on .
@@muhammadyusuf-mx5lb I thought Silat was created as a war art, and during peace time, adapted to self defense fighting? Or was that just in Brunei?

He’s one of my favorite , I have a great respect for him ! 🙏
My fav all time routine move when involved using cloth in silat... Love from Malaysia!!
the main purpose of pencak silat is to kill the enemy as quickly as possible not sports... that is why pencak silat is very focus on speed
But theres 4 sides of silat. Combat, athletic, cultural & spirituality. Its not merely for killing. Cecep himself said that. And we Indonesian & Malaysian perform pencak silat in various cultural events, & even on weddings.
