    • same mate. he's got what gives Brit comedy the edge.....uhh.... as a Yank I don't have the vocabulary to fully extrapolate upon that assertion,, but you probably know what i mean. Self effacing humor, other effacing humor, but without meaness. Wordly, intelligent, not afraid to mix metaphors and call out mediocrity or genius if it'll get a laugh. And, he appears to truly love music, and appreciate and honor the craftsmanship/and or inspiration that the writing of a GOOD pop song needs. He such s quick ear for chords and melodies, and rhythms, not on the wonky Univac encyclopedic level of Beato, but "for a rock guy" he knows exactly why chord choices and progression work.... or don't. Highly analytical mind, applied often to the daunting task "writing something good new and accessible" " the bleeding over of the major 3rd through the chord change from major 1 to minor i which gives it the tasty dissonance." (sic) or something like that. He has a way better ear than this jazz guy,, that being me.

  • It is so cool to me when you start to break down vocals on a "feel" level. Now, I am no vocalist by any stretch, but I can appreciate some of the analogies that are used to explain them. Like, with Caleb, he has this very 'round' sound with his voice as it exits his throat and through the roof of his mouth; however he can open up and push through a more open, slightly raspier tone. Then I think of the likes of Eddy Vedder, who 'feels' like the sound mostly hits the roof of his mouth and shoots downward, but when he opens up has a fuller output. IDK, it is like playing vocal billiards to a certain extent, and is truly fascinating to me.

  • I always recommend My Third House by Kings of Leon. It’s an B side from an older album, but it’s 100000% worth a listen. I will always go back to their older albums and love them more than recent ones, but there’s never a bad album. Some songs are definitely aimed towards getting on the charts now, and less risky…but they keep that distinctive sound. I also think it’s just a more mature sound, with how their lifestyles have changed, the meaning behind their songs have changed too (like with time in disguise, waste a moment, walls, 100,000 people etc.), in comparison to songs about being drugged up, fighting and what not 😅😂

    • I bought UK BluRay also. Picked up a Region Free BR player a few years ago. Admittedly, I don’t use it much anymore, but I was damn glad I still had it when WTTD came out. It is truly wonderful.

    • @@Taylor_King To be fair, there's nothing wrong with just admiting 2010's and 2020's Laptop Music is not good... Tbh, they let out every single trace of real human touch... Digitally generated drums, beat corrected, auto-tune vocals... etc. It sounds lifeless... Obviously, they're overproducing the music and that provoked a lame 'coockie cut copy' soulless atmosphere...

  • I like everyone really want to hear KOL get back to the sound of their first 3 albums but like you said, that was a looooong time ago! I do think their last album was fantastic, nearly every track is good and a few great.... It's a more mature KOL .... When what people are craving is for them to be 20 years old again so we can relive our youth 😊

    @iad77@iad772 ай бұрын
  • I don’t know KOL at all. This seems ok. The most exciting part for me was seeing Winnie The Pooh in the park scenes 🥸 Little Simz*, PJ Harvey, Gary Clark Jr & The Black Crowes all have new songs out recently. And Sophie Lloyd has a new one with Chris Robertson from BlackStoneCherry; nothing ground breaking, just solid, satisfying, guitar rock with a blazing solo. How’s about checking those out? *I know it’s not rock, but you covered her before and seemed to enjoy it. It’s one of her more experimental-type “Drop” EPs. Even if you don’t do it for the channel, it’s worth checking out as it’s fantastic!
