I was invited to the 2023 KART RACE OF CHAMPIONS (KROC). This is one of the premier rental karting events in the world. While it takes place at Buckmore Park in the UK, there were drivers from all around the world competing for the ultimate title of champion of champions. This is an invite-only event, and all drivers came from sort of rental karting pedigree. I am a rental karting champion myself (many years ago), but I was invited as one of two WILD CARD drivers. Safe to say, I got my ass whooped having severely underestimated the amount of preparation I'd need for this event, but hopefully you all found it entertaining lol...

  • These heat races at Buckmore can get very aggressive but I really don't see anything wrong with your overtakes in the final. I also notice someone must have advised you to bounce in the kart to get better traction off the line at the start. I won the Man of steel lightweight championship here in the hire karts a few years ago and miss the track since moving abroad.

  • I did this in 2021 was at Brighton that year followed by SRK. Also recommended, Club 100 drivers often do SRK & BRKC as well, both series have top shelf drivers. KROC brings in a good mix. Also the taping on lead is to stop damage to the kart and your clothes.

  • Just a quick question about the dive you made at the end of the video. I'm really not aware about anything when it comes to karting and not the best racing steward but I just don't understand how that dive was bad? I mean, if you can't dive down the inside then what is racing? Especially in cars that don't have a massive tow. He also left the inside open and you were next to him at the apex, so how did you force contact when he could've just accepted the overtake and not turn into you? This is such a common move in racing but maybe it is different in karting. Great video tho.

  • If driver A is not at least 50% alongside the inside of driver B entering the turn and driver B gets tapped and suffers a significant loss of time, without rider B losing a position, a warning will follow for driver A. this the rule for overtaking in the netherlands, and i think alot of other countries/championships. i think this is also why some drivers put their hand up, because even tho you were alongside, youre not alongside enough.

  • In my rental league, you need to have “dominant” overlap to have rights. That’s defined for us as the rear wheels of the leading cart being in line with the front wheels of the trailing cart. So some of the instances where you ask for opinions looked like dominant overlaps, but the final one with car 15 wasn’t quite “dominant” since it was just your nose in there.

  • Right dude. 12:14 if you knew you came out that corner slow and were in danger of getting overtaken you should go devensive straight away as the next corner is a late apex great for overtaking oportunity. You also looked behind just as you entered the corner and then went wide. if you had gone defensive straight away the guy behind has to either follow behind you or go wide then he is a risk of getting overtaken. You would then have turned a bad corner exit into a decent gap as they are side by side and you have all the way up the hill to get away with a gap. This is very similar to the infield left hander it is also a late apex. The difference is you could get switched back on coming out of it but again anyone behind you risks themselves getting dived on. Similarly you have all the way down the hill to get away. Short answer STOP looking behind going into corners.

  • He must have thought either a: you backed off or b: the other guy on the outside had no room as well, the driver on the outside did seem to have some room, but it could just be the angle. If anything, it is more a racing incident because everyone is pushing so hard.

  • i was karting yesterday and there was a guy going aggressive to the inside and nearly ramming me of the track. yeah he was much faster, cause it was my first time with a normal cart (usually im only e karting). thing is the normal karts are loud and thx to your engine you cant hear shit, in e karting you only hear screaming tyres which can tell you the location of others behind you. on top you dont have tight 90-180 degree corners back to back, where you see if someone is like 1-2 kart lenghts behind you. on the normal track i was constantly turning my head, but tbh you cant see shit. if someone is driving in your back you have no clue if he is sending it into the corner or not, you have no clue if 5cm of his cart are beside you, rdy to spin your kart. in my opinion in e karting the one in front can easily determine if he can close the door or not, in regular karting it was at least on our track simply not possible. my friend did the same thing you did to a kid, he did just send it. the kid had no clue he was comming and we had a 3 way collision, cause my friend got thrown back into my racing line and i got send onto the grass. the person in the back has to be the one to not overdo it for normal karting and in e karting both are able to to keep an eye out for it. and im not talking about a little bump. like in every sport a little bit of contact is fine, it happens we miss a breaking point or the one in front breaks a bit earlier then usual. but break checking, sending it into a corner you will never get even if there was no other kart driving leroy jenkins style and this stuff is going to far.

  • Brave to enter a race without much experience of this kind of event or Buckmore and put it on You Tube ! I would have booked a practice or two before the event, you’re lucky it wasn’t raining ! The driving standards looked normal for hire karting, I agree with the turn 1 brake testing. You could make an argument, that you used the annoyed guy as a brake into hairpin 1. I find the more you push the track limits the faster you go, especially in the wet, which is why they added red paint and barriers to stop people taking the piss. You should have pushed the gas a little bit before the start, and a wider squarer entry into the first hairpin works for me. The weird uphill penultimate corner annoys me and rewards anybody who dives up the inside. I never look behind me in a kart!

  • Great video first off. However the whole video feels like 'please give me a hug I know I was outclassed but I still want to hear the opposite so badly'. Either you're doing that narrative for the views or you really don't see that. I hope it's the former. 15:50 what do you need opinion on? Your already state that he holds his brake well beyond the apex, which is hard to see from your POV but I guess I would concur. Then again, what the hell was your plan/setup for that corner? And to be honest with my short viewing time of your driving that seems to be lacking, strategy and planning ahead.
