In this video watch as I make myself a leather journal. I made this journal to sketch my ideas for future projects in the shop! I used my cnc to make a plate to de-boss the front of the leather cover.

" Discovered in early 2876, the Diresta Journal has fascinated archaeologists and designers for hundreds of years. Considered by many to be the finest example of pre-dystopian craftsmen, his ideas and methods continue to baffle modern science"
"Pre-dystopian Craftsman" - now there's a title I could be proud of.
The pencil in the mouth trick for tying knots is genius.
The talent this guy has is astonishing. Attending one of his classes is on my short list.
Vintage Diresta. His hands are just a little more gnarled than before.
So apparently you made more of these and sold them. My wife bought me one for my birthday and it’s amazing. Love being able to go back and watch the video on how it’s made. Thanks for all you do. Long time fan!!!
No surprise to me that Jimmy would also have lovely handwriting! 😍
He's an artist (among other skills)
A masterpiece and Object of Beauty. What a superb video. Items like this don't belong in the world of today, its all throw away crap and apps for your phone! Thanks for sharing
This isn't the first book I've seen you make, but I love watching the process. Seriously, it's like watching an episode of "How It's Made" or something. This is something we never really see. Plus these days it's all automated anyway. Thanks for the education, and the amazing project. LOVE it!
So much respect and love for your work Jimmy
Jimmy, you never cease to impress and educate me.
I learn best when things are not over explained. Silent Jimmy is a great teacher. Thanks Jimmy.
Wow, I just learned more about leather work in this video than I have in a few years of messing around in my shop. The shoulder plane to skive the book fold is genius! Thank you!
I have remembered my school days. Thank you. Good job.
This is AWESOME! What a beauty!
Beautiful!
what Jimmy Diresta can't do: NOTHING !!! Greatings from Belgium
Classic DiResta. The foam block to prop up the signatures is a great idea.
Yet another matter class. I need to attend one of these in person sometime. Thanks for sharing!
You never let us down......you make everything look so easy!
"My Inventions and Evil Intentions" I could not love the title more! Right now that means the future but, 30 years from now it could also be a look back. Very cool!
yea, tribulation is on the horizon and entertaining evil is good idea.
@@relevant.c5411 Tribulation? What tribulation?
@@InformationIsTheEdge It's someone who has gone off the deep end. Pay no mind to it.
@@vladimirpoutine4140 Thanks for the heads up!
He had to do it for the verisimilitude!
I’ve always wanted to bind a book, but I’ve always been intimidated by it. You’ve made it look quite doable!!! I’ll have to give it a go!
Beautiful! Jimmy, it looks like this is all you have done all your life, such finesse! Never seen a book assembled.
you never stop to amaze us with your multiple talents and beautiful work!
i like how you can see improved work flow in gluing up the second red paper.
Very nice. Love this 'old school' Diresta! Be sure to try making something like this.. Thanks Jimmy!
This guy is a genius!! I love his videos! I also admire the patience he has. Just the thought of folding all that paper and ive given up already.
Paper... Found on the streets of New York!!! I'm really digging the paisley.
Brilliant job as ever! Love it
That's just beautiful!
Simply amazing! Nuff said!
Thanks for another year of inspiring videos
One of those most beautiful things ive seen you make.
The courage and confidence you give others, to have a go at creating something to treasure, is immeasurable and for that gift I thank you.
I love watching you work. I saw you on ‘Making it” and you make it seem like a person can make anything they want with the right guide/mentor and the drive. Thank you so much for sharing!
Every time! Jimmy nails it every single time. I'm always amazed at your work. 👍
Nothing like an old skool Jimmy D style vid, 👌
30 more tools and I'm making my own! Nice work. 👍

All your projects are amazing, but this one is extra captivating
Awesome work! You nail it everytime. Thanks for sharing.
This was absolutely fantastic, well done
I love watching your videos. You inspire me to create things.
Great job Mr. Diresta. As a young man I worked at a custom book bindery. They had several mature lady’s that hand bound, and restored, rare and precious book. I use to watch them with admiration for their fine hand work. I swear, you must have been watching these ladies also. Your work is near identical. Thank you for the video and the trip down memory lane.
Another great demo. Thanks for demystifying the process. Really appreciate your videos. Thanks.
love this one. enjoyed watching it.
After all that work, I wouldn't want anyone to write in it! Awesome job!
Inspired, Again. Thank you.
I love that for my sketchbook! Very beautiful piece of art!
Never cease to amaze
In the past I did some binding repairs - poorly. I looked into the field and realized I wasn't ever going to actually do it as a profession and turned away because it extremely difficult and time consuming with some specialized equipment requirements and loads of skill. Thanks Jimmy for showing just the basics.. Great job.
So nice. A truly inspiration to make my own!
Bravo! Beautiful, Practical & Unique. So lovely to see the linen strips, another gift from our friend the Flax plant, those stunning red swirls of the end covers & all the practical technology making a stunningly attractive repository of knowledge that can last for centuries. More than all of that was the inspiration & instilled certainty that the only thing stopping me from doing something similar is inertia & I need to break free & do things. Thanks for sharing!
You have an amazingly versatile skill set.
Your skills and talents always amaze me. This is a beautiful journal.
Awesome work again!
REALLY nice work, and very impressive video. Thank you!

You rock dude! Peace and respect from South Africa!
Thank you for everything Jimmy!!!
Jimmy, I have followed your channel for a long time and you finally showed something I can do other than machining and metalwork, My grandmother did that as a hobby when i was a kid and i got all her presses etc when she passed. Great job and grandma would approve.
Beautiful.
Priceless work of art! My great grandfather was a book maker in the early 1850s in Scotland. I now have the utmost respect forwhat he did and wish I had one of his. This is truly an art form. The closest I will ever come is wrapping a journal from the dollar tree store with some leather from my old “hippy days” pants! Thank you so much.
Wow, great work & showing how this is done !
Nice! I like it.
Brother, that is a beautiful Journal... "Intentions"! Jerry
You have so many talents. I am mso damn impressed with all you can do! If I had your skills, I would spend 24/7 in a workshop just creating things. I've watched tons of your videos for many years and you always impress me! Keep up the good work, and never stop creating!
