In this video watch as I make myself a leather journal. I made this journal to sketch my ideas for future projects in the shop! I used my cnc to make a plate to de-boss the front of the leather cover.

  • " Discovered in early 2876, the Diresta Journal has fascinated archaeologists and designers for hundreds of years. Considered by many to be the finest example of pre-dystopian craftsmen, his ideas and methods continue to baffle modern science"

  • This isn't the first book I've seen you make, but I love watching the process. Seriously, it's like watching an episode of "How It's Made" or something. This is something we never really see. Plus these days it's all automated anyway. Thanks for the education, and the amazing project. LOVE it!

  • Great job Mr. Diresta. As a young man I worked at a custom book bindery. They had several mature lady’s that hand bound, and restored, rare and precious book. I use to watch them with admiration for their fine hand work. I swear, you must have been watching these ladies also. Your work is near identical. Thank you for the video and the trip down memory lane.

  • In the past I did some binding repairs - poorly. I looked into the field and realized I wasn't ever going to actually do it as a profession and turned away because it extremely difficult and time consuming with some specialized equipment requirements and loads of skill. Thanks Jimmy for showing just the basics.. Great job.

  • Bravo! Beautiful, Practical & Unique. So lovely to see the linen strips, another gift from our friend the Flax plant, those stunning red swirls of the end covers & all the practical technology making a stunningly attractive repository of knowledge that can last for centuries. More than all of that was the inspiration & instilled certainty that the only thing stopping me from doing something similar is inertia & I need to break free & do things. Thanks for sharing!

  • Priceless work of art! My great grandfather was a book maker in the early 1850s in Scotland. I now have the utmost respect forwhat he did and wish I had one of his. This is truly an art form. The closest I will ever come is wrapping a journal from the dollar tree store with some leather from my old “hippy days” pants! Thank you so much.
