The year I taught 5th grade my students bought index cards and they were stored for when we would use them… but then in October one of the boys broke into the filing cabinet and stole 4,000 index cards a week before we needed them. I went in there to find them and there was only one small pack in there… when I asked the class where they went every finger in the room pointed at the one student! The cards were never replaced and the child wasn’t given consequences from the school. One of the MANY reasons I am out of teaching…

He almost never did, or he'd make me barter for them with chores. 😅 But we always got lots of extra pencils, tissues, notebooks, etc. Partly because he knew some of it would go to the teacher or to other students, and partly because I would misplace things and end up with like six notebooks per class and a entire pack worth of pencils left in random places.

Speaking of those stupid lists, I didn’t even end up using a majority of the stuff they told me to get. Eventually I just stopped mentioning it to my mother and instead just brought a single folder with some pencils and paper and I got by just fine.

When I was in school , I remember giving mom all these lists. EVERY YEAR I got ONE large binder. Every class had a different color folder INSIDE the binder so I can just scroll to it in ONE binder 😂 worked amazing every year

It’s to ensure that 1. people have thought of everything they might need, 2. to ensure they can have some classroom supplies along with bandaids, hand sanitizer, and tissues, and 3. to makes sure that underprivileged children can have some school supplies.
