  • I like it! I feel you’ve challenged yourself: creating a watercreature, using bow ties, separate parts glue up making a whole. I guess you’ve learned a lot from this project. The expression and headpart is spot on again. Oh and… include some outdoor shots again, Norway must be stunning with all the snow you’ve got in winter.

  • It looks amazing, don't put yourself down! For future pieces with separately carved limbs, you might want to consider making the joins between body and limb sit sunk into the body instead, where the body allows for it, to make the join less obvious. It's a well practiced methodology in plastic miniature design, and I think you should be able to do the same in wood :)

  • A wolf... maybe the scruff of its neck fur morphing into a forest of pine trees? The untamed wild within, like the saying 'You can take a wolf out of the wild, but you can't take the 'wild' out of the wolf'. Bonus thought, and this is probably too difficult, a hole from one eye of the wolf tapered to the forest in the back to become the moon? Just a bit of a crazy idea, but I hope it inspires some additional creative ideas for you and your beautiful work.

  • This turtle looks amazing! I love the idea of a wolf for your next sculpture, especially since the January full moon is the Wolf Moon. That could also be a source of inspiration (though you are definitely putting the work in any way) for future possible sources of inspiration.

  • To be honest, the tentacles are plenty naterial for their own video. They are so cool and will probably require a lot of fitting to wrap them around the turtle so smoothly. Will you make the pearl out of wood, too? I wonder, how it would look like with a glassmarble or other materials along those lines.

  • Nice job. The turtle turned out really well. - For ideas, how about a swan in a flower ? Or perhaps a scene with a couple smaller animals instead of a big one ? That way you could maybe use some leftover smaller log pieces.

    • I like the swam idea a lot! I got to start working with epoxy since it will allow me more freedown with the designs

    • @Jonasolsenwoodcraft I was going to suggest making an epoxy base for this turtle ! Perhaps a wave form ? I think it would be cool if you could mount the turtle at a 45 degree angle, so you can see the top and bottom of piece ? Like the turtle burst out of the wave !? I would also suggest the base of the wave be blue, getting clear toward the crest !? Never worked with epoxy, so no idea how hard it would be to DO what I see in my mind's eye ! 🐢🌊 Keep creating ! Your art is incredible! ❤

    • Hey no, But that would be fun to try

      @Jonasolsenwoodcraft@Jonasolsenwoodcraft4 ай бұрын
  • I understand your feelings about the connected parts not matching perfectly, maybe having the seam closer to the shell would've solved this, but the design in itself is as beautiful as always! A wolf would be a great choice, but if you choose to make a bird I'd love to see a falcon! They always look so noble and intelligent.

  • I think it ended up looking really cute :) The mis-match in colour is a bit sad, but some things are unforeseeable. Do you think it would have been better to hide the seam deeper inside the shell? (like cut a recess into the main piece and hide the glued portion there - I don't know woodworking terms haha) As an idea or suggestion: Have you thought about making a Bison? They are such strong looking creatures Anyways, thank you so much for sharing your beautiful project and I hope you have a godt nytt år :)

    @HelyaRavn@HelyaRavn4 ай бұрын
    • Thank you! Yeah i was thinking about making the connection deeper, But then i would have a huge problem making the seam flat. A bison would be fun, But i need a larger log for that i think, It has to be big and powerful!

      @Jonasolsenwoodcraft@Jonasolsenwoodcraft4 ай бұрын
  • I think it's gorgeous as usual! A suggestion for you to prevent splitting when drilling holes. If you drill a pilot hole first you'll reduce the chance of the wood splitting when you go to the larger bit because there's not as much pressure being put on the wood.

    • Good idea!

  • There is definitely an opportunity to add one more element. Consider adding details of tiny wrinkles and scales starting subtle, but going heavier in the shadow area and around the neck and attachment points going down into the shell using a dark metallic purple paint. Anyways, let that idea Stew and maybe sketch or paint a concept drawing of how that would look. You do some amazing work!

You demonstrate a lot of creativity. Perhaps the best part is the playful tone-of-an-aproach you have towards each project you make. I owned a cabinet shop and sometimes a customer would see just a small color area they did not particularly like. I would take actual paint colorant from a paint store and add it to my finish. Was an amazing result and customers were quite pleased, I colorized the offensive area and I shaded the finish until it was hidden then went over the project with a colorless finish. Really fantastic results and still going after 30 years... no problems from the additive.

  • Your turtle was beautiful and the head fit right in with the colors in the other wood. Would love to see you make a bald eagle, since i saw your hawk one! It would be cool to see you use two types of wood for the colors of the bird!

  • Beautiful work but let me give you a heads up on Turtle shells. Most Turtles have a pattern in the shell that many Native Americans used as the calendar. Their calendar was Lunar based on Moon cycles not Solar based. There are 13 moons or months in this pattern which are the 13 large sections of the shell. Around it is 28 small sections that form the skirt around the edge of the shell. Each moon cycle is 28-29 days so these told you what day of the month it was. If you do the math 13 months X 28 days gives you 364 and there was one day for communal celebration which gives you the 365 day year. Keep up the great work, you are talented in a variety of ways- the plan alone was a masterpiece! 🐢👍👍👍

  • Something I'd love to see is a Carving that is made up of many different types of wood that contrast in colour. This could be done using different woods or stains / finishing oils. Your cool carvings have inspired me to make something of my own.

  • You tap into the Cosmos Energy very well! The turtle looks great! I have found some success with drilling holes if I start with a smaller drill bit first, then increase the size. It helps with cracking. Sometimes, however, one cannot avoid it. It looks great as wall art too.

I'm sort of a newbie into carving . Have been actively carving since I retired 2 years ago.. You never stop learning from. Mistakes or issues that pop up unexpectedly.. You have wonderful artistic visions.... Keep up the good work! I can't wait to see what you create next.. Mellanie ' Mel' Boone
