The Château Cottage Renovation, And Saving The Crumbling Chimneys @Château De Lalacelle. Ep13

2021 ж. 19 Мау.

In this week at the château, Tracy and Tony work away on the cottage. With the roof now fully complete, work can start on the interior, starting with lifting hundreds of terracotta tiles and removing all the old plaster.
Also, urgent work starts on the east-side chimney, as if left for one more winter it may collapse in on its self.
Plus, Jonathan helps out in the chicken pens and gets a little surprise after school to keep him busy.
And If you would like to join us on our family journey restoring this once abandoned château, then please just follow the link below, 🥰

We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.
The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.
Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.
Please subscribe and follow our families journey, with the up’s and down’s in moving from the UK to rural France and restoring this beautiful building to its former glory.

  • I am exhausted just watching you two working so hard. I thought it was hard enough renovating a six bedroom Victorian house never mind your beautiful buildings. Delighted Jonathan has a trampoline. I have one and am in my 60s. It’s hidden in the garden so that I cannot be seen ( apart from the cows in the next field). . I know it will be great fun for you all. Looking forward to your next update. Well done both of you👏👏

  • Wanted to thank you for making videos of all your repairs. It is not only satisfying to do the work yourselves but even taking the time to make videos of what you are doing adds to your chores. We appreciate that you are teaching us how to do it! These buildings are just amazing. So many have been abandoned but they certainly are worth the effort and investment. As other viewers have said, be careful. Safety first!

  • Two observations, what a smashing man Tony is, and, blimey Tracy would put any labourer to shame - she really knows how to graft! One small tip, normally on french windows, the hinged glazed units can quickly and easily be removed from the frames by knocking out the centre pins in the hinges. This facility is also useful when you come to paint them. Super job on the roof - very professional.

  • These cast iron wall sinks you are finding, known as a “lavabo” were usually mounted on the outside walls of European homes. They were used for hand washing before entering the house. The one in the video would have a tap in the hole at the top and some came with their own tank which you would fill daily.

    • They were also commonly found inside, at least in Austria. When the industrial revolution was in full swing, these were put in the hallway on each floor in working-class houses, where the individual tiny flats didn't have running water. In the early 20th century they were even installed in middle-class kitchens. The place I live in used to have slightly larger, square ones in all the kitchens, of course they've all been removed since. The only one left is in the former laundry room in the cellar. My dad removed the last one from a kitchen in the late 70s. For the proper look they need a flush-mounted trap and drain cover, very hard to find. If you do an image search for "Bassena" (bastardised French "bassin") you can find a few pictures of those sinks in their original habitats. You can still buy aluminium replicas that look reasonably convincing until you try to lift them.

      @Ragnar8504@Ragnar85042 жыл бұрын
    • If you can't find an appropriate spot for them inside, they would be beautiful as fountains in the garden mounted on the stone wall - maybe with trailing water plants. The soft tinkle of running water would be so soothing.

Our 80' long, three story dairy barn is wood construction. My father-in-law built it in 1952. I can now see the grounds design from the drone footage. You have cleaned away enough overgrowth to get a good picture of what the property originally looked like. Just stunning! This will make a stellar family home and B&B! ~ Diane

Tracey works as hard as any man in construction, no wonder she stays lovely and slim! I will have to find the first postings of these vlogs, I am interested to see them. I think Tony should sell T-shirts with, Let’s get crackin!! on them.😁

  • Mom, your doing an incredible job! I know all the work has to be shocking. Love the cast iron sinks? Whatever they are there beautiful! I say this to all the château channels I watch, I hope you’ll keep as working. I know it’s not practical, but there ancient and so beautiful. The iron stoves put in them is such an eyesore imo. 🤣🤣 However, freezing 🥶 or warmth, I pick warmth even if it’s a iron stove lol. Aww, your wonderful grandparents.

  • None of you is afraid of hard graft!! Great to get up all those tiles - did you actually break any? Such a good idea to put down insulation; proper clay tommettes instantly give character to an old property. The trampoline is such a good idea too as Jonathan can bounce happily without being constantly supervised thanks to the net. Delighted to hear that he seems to have settled so easily into his new school, which I'm sure is a massive relief to everyone, Tracy in particular!
