  • Dear Ms Madisun, It is SO FRESH and encouraging to hear a young adult (it is a compliment!!!) talking about being responsible, sustainable and intentional!! Please, let me explain; nowadays, we see and hear so many wonderful adults talking about choosing the live a simple life and choosing to take action (or not) about this and that but...they are older and to hear what a younger person has to say and think, it a real joy; it is charming, adorable and motivating. Thank you so much for doing it! helene (mother of 4) :)

  • I really love the balance you bring. I used to try changing too many things at once, and it was overwhelming. Now I still buy paper plates for the days I feel overwhelmed, but we don't own a tv. I let my son watch a little too much screen time, but we spend more time outside as a family just enjoying life. I still buy cheap clothes in my budget, but I wash my face with only honey. It's good to hear you talk about where you are and where you were without any judgement. I feel like I can just grow and learn and live and improve without any guilt or shame 😊

    • Hey Hannah! Thanks so much! I went deep reading about how essential oils are super estrogenic when you diffuse them cold/ inhale them and have long exposure - for hours at a time. I struggled with low progesterone for a while and that’s one of the things that I changed. I still use essential oils like as perfume or as an acute treatment on something like a fungal issue from time to time.

I do not buy shaving cream for myself because I don't shave anymore but my husband has it for his face. You're so inspiring and I am thinking of trying to eliminate all face wash! I stopped buying additional moisturizers and I am finishing the few baby ones I bought for my face. The littles rarely need lotion! I also stopped diffusing essential oils but have been bummed to get rid of my expensive diffuser. Maybe this is my sign!

    • It can get worse. I'm trying to phase out noisy battery powered toys for my 2 year old. I allowed it at first, but I noticed he loses interest easily, and he likes to mimic adults. Montessori types of toys that mimic real life work the best, but people will still give electronic toys. The pressure to give gifts on birthdays and holidays results in giving electronic or even cheapy toys that break easily.

I feel like it was definitely a trend that essential oils would heal everything but honestly they just made things sooo much worse for me , but I totally bought the idea of "just my skin purging" and "they are all natural" when really this is just a marketing thing because most essential oils companies are MLMS!!!

  • Madisun, You and I are soul sisters! So many of the things you don’t buy are things that I don’t feel like I need. I have been trying to find a good skincare routine for me but haven’t. I don’t have any problems with my skin but am wanting something non toxic. I have used coconut oil and really like it so I think I will transition to using that. I am wanting to give up coffee but haven’t gotten there yet. I love peppermint tea! I appreciate your simplistic way of living! I need to tidy up with my husband for kitchen stuff, storage, etc. Otherwise, he gets confused and frustrated about where things are. If you could give me advice, I really appreciate it :)

  • Volume is much better. I was commenting when you took the video down yesterday when there were only two comments at the time. . .and it wouldn't let me comment and the video was unavailable, so now I am back to respond. I am soooo similar about what I do/don't buy or use. Each of my family members has one mug (so we can all have cocoa together - which is the only thing other than water I drink at all). There are so many things that many people love and use all the time that you don't need, but while you or I may not need them, maybe they find more value in them. I'd love to hear more about using coconut oil for the babies instead of all the other things. My baby shower is coming up soon and I told everyone how I curated my list very carefully and don't need a lot nor want a lot (especially in my very small home). . .I really hope people don't try to add on to my list. It is probably one of the easiest and smallest lists to buy from too (even if people are like, "What are bamboo diapers??" or "What do you mean you don't like plastic?") I don't have an instapot at all nor physical books as well. I do have a couple streaming subscriptions (and share them with family members like my parents and a sibling and his kids, etc). I really do love my essential oils haha. Been using them since the mid 1990s (I used to burn it with tea lights rather than having a diffuser). LOVE YOUR LIST. This response could totally be so much longer, but I am trying to limit my responses a slight.

  • I have never seen anyone who doesn’t buy the same things I don’t buy (for the most part). My list is so similar to yours (of course a couple things differ)! I don’t realize it until i go to someone else’s house, though, and get sensory overload by all the things.

  • Loved this list! We are also not drinkers. I’m not against it just not our thing. I wish we could go down to one car. My husband travels for work. But when one of us retires we are definitely down sizing. So many things on your list I am there with ya!

    • Hi Jess, my husband and I are older I’m 72 and he’s 63 so we’re not in the thick of raising kids, that does make a difference, that being said,we’ve been a one car family for about 6 years now and I love it. My husband is semi retired but still works 2 or 3 days a week. I love having the excuse to not go places or do things I really don’t want to do because I don’t have the car. I’m an introvert and love being home. I find plenty to do that I enjoy and I’m understanding more about ‘slow living’, it’s nice.😊

  • I find you so inspiring. I am a kindred spirit. I have given up quite a bit of these things, and would love to get rid of several more things on this list, although I’m finding it challenging at this stage with several teenagers in our home who are old enough to buy their own things and have their own opinions. I do need to work on simplifying my own food choices, though

  • Hi, I really get a lot of value from your content! Thank you. Could you speak to how you discuss minimalism with your kids. I have a 4.5year old, a 2 year old and a baby. At home we are very minimal, but when we are out, the oldest asks for anything and everything she sees. I know she doesn't always really care about the item in particular, she just wants me to buy her SOMETHING. It's hard, I feel like a mean Mum. Things we've tried are... -keeping her out of shops (not always practical - having a wish list ( this feels ingenuine as I don't plan on buying her 99% of what she puts on there) - giving her a shopping fix. for example, when she grows out/wears out an item of clothing, we go out together to choose the replacement. But it doesn't stop her asking for a million other things. I don't really have any friends that are on my level of minimalism. So I'm curious how you talk to your kids about this stuff? Thank you 😊

They are in a steamer trunk awaiting the next generation. I kept the Persuasion that i constantly read in college and the Bible I was gifted upon graduation. Possibly odd choices but they make sense in my timeline of life. You can go to my bookcase and trace the path of my life. I love that. I hope this is helpful to you. 💚

  • Thank you Madi! Your story and life are an inspiration to so many. If you can answer this question for me. How do you keep up minimalism in the way of food? Groceries are so expensive and I feel we spend so much time planning meals and trying different ways of eating. For example: Calorie counting Vegan Vegetarian Carnivore Plant based Fruititarian Etc..... Does your family follow any rules of this kind?

    @amandahenry6117@amandahenry6117 Жыл бұрын
    • Hi Amanda. Our family has some health restrictions for food. We ended up grain free, sugar free, dairy free. It was a real shock to our system. I don’t know if I could have changed that much if it hadn’t been health related honestly. I made 2 weeks worth of menus and we used them on repeat for about 6 weeks. It reduced the spices needed, grocery list was already made and if we still had something I could just cross it off. People could learn to cook this food because kids with special diets do grow up and move out and need skills. Plus I honestly needed a break. Really, seriously needed one at least once a week.
