Cockatiel of Australia a documentary

2021 ж. 16 Сәу.
300 003 Рет қаралды

The Cockatiel habitat is explored to make this video. These birds are crested like a cockatoo but have the slender lines of a long tailed parrot and fly like a swift parrot. A previous video on cockatiels is now ipdated to include more flock behaviour

    • @@decayedcake1245 Yup, my family got little Oliver in Jan/Feb of 1991, when I was 12. He was hatched in Nov of 1990. My mom always regretted not finding out his actual hatch date. Anyway, my mom used to joke that if anything happened to her (my dad passed in '96), that I'd need to take care of him(my brother has a kid and cats). I thought, "yeah right". But, almost 4 years ago she passed from pancreatic cancer and I've been taking care of him since. He is utterly spoiled. Mostly eats human food, and is always out of his cage. He's always been an angry bird. I've always joked that anger has fueled him all these years. But, he is adorable. I've lived with my wife for 3 years now, and though he tolerates her, I and my brother are the only people he shows genuine affection towards. Other than some arthritis that he occasionally presents in his left foot he is otherwise healthy and active.

  • Watching this from the United States. :) Thank you so much for sharing this gorgeous footage of cockatiels in the wild! Given the extensive footage and very informative commentary, I would imagine it takes a lot of time to make these videos! I am the caretaker of three rescue cockatiels, and your videos are helping provide me with ideas for the dream aviary I am working on for them. It's not the same as flying free in the skies of Australia, but I still want to give them the best life possible. Thank you so, so much for this helpful and educational content!!!

  • News report in Pennsylvania said a Cockatiel was found that had been missing 3 YEARS. Somehow this tropical bird survived 3 harsh winters in the north United States. I didn’t think they could survive cold weather like that but apparently they can. Makes me wonder if it migrated south by itself and flew back ?? Birds have a amazing way of doing that

    • Being birds of the desert and semi-arid regions of Australia, rather than truly 'tropical' birds, they are adapted to cope with both very hot days and very cold nights with freezing temperatures where they are exposed to the elements...... not as cold as the Northern US, but they can certainly tolerate colder conditions than the true tropical parrots.

    • Maybe someone found it and is taking care of your cockatiel. Mine flew to my house and we are taking care of it for years since we were never able to find the owner.

  • Are there color mutations of these in the wild?

    @nikehusk3849@nikehusk38493 жыл бұрын
    • No the wild birds have minimal colour variation from what is shown in the video, The same for the budgie. In the wild it is only green and yellow

      @plumesofoz@plumesofoz3 жыл бұрын
    • @@plumesofoz I have this theory that they prefer to perch on dead branches as these have similar shades of color to their plumage, thus serving as a form of camouflage.

    @LisiJanVentures@LisiJanVentures Жыл бұрын
    • You can find these guys anywhere here in Australia where it's fairly arid even semi desert,they thrive in areas where most other birds avoid due to lack of water but these guys are real survivors.

    • @@LisiJanVentures I couldn't tell you a particular area sorry m8, I'm sure there are areas though where U will be guaranteed to see them, I just am not aware of such places, I see them when driving to my mates place from where I am on the Gold coast to his place up in Theodore which is a small country town, I tend to see them just hanging around the roadside foraging.
