Can I Beat Rimworld as a TORSO?

For old time's sake, I decided to play Rimworld as a torso and see if I could get one of the most limited characters back up to strength with four bionic limbs within 100 days.

  • I shed a tear for Maverick after this; her initial human compassion having unfortunately set her mate on the alluring path AWAY from his humanity, and ergo, away from herself. It is reminiscent of those old horror movies where the spouse either grows to gargantuan proportions or shrinks to the molecular level, embarking on his solitary journey of discovery and eventual extinction, while those who loved him are only left to mourn....and to wonder.

That whole genre and really horror in its modern form emerged because of society's freakout at the realization science gave us that we were just... Animals. Objects. Material. Matter. Meat.

  • Poor Maverick She found a lonely Torso in the woods and decided to help him. By chance, she happened to have the medical knowledge to grant him limbs so that he could again move and manipulate. Through hours of surgery they bonded. Torso found her sophisticated culture and philosophy interesting and attractive, and Maverick was moved by Torso's desire to once again be able to accomplish what others find so easy. Torso and Maverick fell deep into love for one another. But it was too good to be true. Torso became distant, locking himself away for hours to study. He yearned ever more to bypass the physical limitations of his form. Torso's slight aloofness and awkward personality descended first into neuroticism and then psychosis and extreme paranoia. He became obsessed with perfecting his body, replacing his organic parts with experimental technology, he removed anything he deemed imperfect. The night of Torso's final surgery Maverick awoke to the wails of megasloth and fauna alike. Torso had been stirred into some kind of trance, mowing down everything in sight while ranting about slight errors in NBC sitcom Community. Maverick spent hours nursing a catatonic Torso as he mumbled incessantly "Why does Shirley make the signum crucis if she is a Baptist?" and "Why are there palm trees in Colorado" and "Shouldn't Jeff have been automatically disbarred for a minimum of eight years as per Colorado Bar Association's rules?". After days of diligence and patient coaxing Maverick finally made a breakthrough when she absentmindedly complimented the evident talent in the writing staff of NBC sitcom Friends. The lucidity granted by this disturbance allowed Torso a greater vision of the real world, in which he found himself sat in bed and eating. With vague memory he recalled, to his absolute loathing and discomfort, the many meals his beloved Maverick had fed him without the aid of a table. This appalling affront to basic etiquette and standard practice drove Torso through a death spiral catharsis, after which he feigned recovery and set his plan in motion to enact revenge. He seduced Maverick, she had become reluctant in the past weeks, and professed his love for her repeatedly throughout their lovemaking and, at the climax of their union, whispered "So, did Troy break his shoulders? or his knee?". Maverick reeled in horror as Torso produced a rifle and began filling her with lead like she had fed him non-table served food. Maverick's body slumped like Pierce in the trampoline episode, Torso moved on, walking into the sunset a savage of ration and logic, no longer human.

  • Surgery really is something of a wildcard. One time, my colony doctor fell ill from an infection in his left leg, and with no hope of building up immunity in time. So, I put my second-best to the task of saving this poor soul's life. He somehow managed to fail to sever the infected limb initially, but on the second try, the runner-up doctor found purchase - in the unconscious doctor's heart and right kidney. It is beyond me how he went from amputating a limb to destroying a heart, which leads me to believe this was an intentional flub. The 'manslaughterer' is still the colony doctor to this day.

  • After watching every single Rimworld related video on your channel I decided to get the game and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. My colony's dog got killed so I decided to store it in the freezer in case I got resurrector mech serum but my colonists decided to butcher and eat it instead. 10/10 Would freeze my dead dog again

  • Torsolo lives on, not just on the desolate world of Kenshi, but now on the Rim, perhaps one day to amass an army of fellow Torsos to challenge the Empire for what he has a right to take. The eating without a table joke is still not dead, thank you

  • This reminds me of something that happened recently. A prisoner named Worm tried to escape and was severely injured. As punishment I decided to 'purify' him. By the end of my endeavour Worm had no eyes, ears, legs, arms, one kidney, one lung. He was perfect and it became so clear to me - The Worm Loves You. The Worm is Perfect. We must worship the worm. So for some time the colony existed solely to care for this lump of flesh called The Worm until he was finally allowed to rest.

  • The great torsolo, more machine than man. He just about all his humanity, no longer needing to sleep, overcoming every obstacle from raider to hunting. He started with nothing and became a cold, heartless metallic core... only to face the true ultimate test of brain and brawn that only Randy could throw at him. He mustered up all of his confidence and strength to eat without a table, but the memories of when he had a table were just far too powerful for him to overcome. Torsolo, you will be missed.

  • Reminded me that, in my current playthrough, my speaker-type colonist who was responsible for bartering and converting, had a roof decided to collapse on her and do nothing other than shatter her jaw. She could not speak, she was depressed, she was only good for research and maybe plants. I had two prisoners, one of which I wanted to convert, but I had to settle for the guy with lesser skill because he could talk (and he took forever to convert her). Then, with the half-completion of my med bay, I remembered that prostheses are a thing. It took several attempts to get my colonist’s dentures in because she was also the medical expert, but now she is useful once more. Of course, I have nobody to convert, but at least she’s not depressed and is elated at being able to speak after months of dumbness. Everything is going so well in that playthrough that I don’t want to touch it anymore.
