This is a 3D printed 1:20 scale PT-109 boat that I built for my dad. I KNOW SOME DETAILS ARE MISSING!! It's not complete. I know it's missing the 37 gun up front (I don't think that was available in the files), the other 50cal turret gun (it fell off), steering wheel, some cleats fell off when I dropped it on carpet, railings on turret, mast light broke off, and probably many more.
I saw some comments about the PT109 being in the wrong spot. I did not know about that. I was looking up photos when I made that sticker. It's just a vinyl sticker, easy to remove. I appreciate the comments letting me know what's not accurate.
You can find the files at:

The 'rudder posts' are actually the propeller shaft struts. Nice boat!
Beautifully done! Lot of hard work and patience put into the building of her.
Built a Lindberg 1/24 (?) plastic kit of the PT 109 years ago. Swapped the anemic kit motors for two large 12v brushed motors (this was before brushless) and powered it with a compact 12v sealed lead acid battery. Goes like stink! Still have it.
Great Project and nicely done. Your Dad should love it.
Looking good!
So good . And triple screws . Amazing . Well done
Awesome build!
Stunning. Well done.
Good looking boat there! Good job!
I'm printing the Castle Class by Bensworx right now! Its going to be the HMCS St Thomas!
What a wonderful thing to invest such time in your father!
Amazing job, looks great
Fantastic work.👍
Sweet!!!!
awesome rc 109 a lot of hard work went into that boat
What a great son to build that for your father...bravo
Beautiful build! But hey, I don't hear the sound of Merlin engines!!!
👍🏻👍🏻nice build
Awesome build, thanks for posting it! Definitely going to print one of these at some point, my printer can't quite fit it but I'll probably scale it down to 1/24. Currently printing Ben's Castle Class corvette scaled down to 1/72 to match my Revell Flower Class.
I printed this on a CR10S Pro, but I'm fairly certain it can print on an Ender 3 sized bed
Or you could print a 1/48 Flower class too. 😉
compliments remarkable boat ... I take the liberty of bursting with some solutions. remarkable realism in navigation thanks to the video.😉
Just started printing mine. On the second layer of hull part 1 right now lol. What a coincidence!
Post it up in a timeline! Love seeing talented people working on passion projects.
@Are you lying? here is a video I made to send to a friend of mine explaining a couple of things about 3d printing and about the boat. kzhead.info/sun/ocdyqqaFqGlrYKM/bejne.html
Very interesting. I'd like to try printing a hull plug and pulling a mold from it.
Looks Great
Very nice indeed.
Your 109 looks, floats, and sounds wonderful. Congratulations! What a feat to build this legendary boat from scratch with the most advanced technology. Your success inspires me to finally launch my 50 year old 1:20 model of 109. It´s made of wood. It´s a German kit of the company KRICK that was nicely assembled by an unknown modeller.
How can I message you? I think that's the same one my dad has that I want to finish for him. He's had it ever since I was a kid. And thanks for the compliment, this one took me a couple years to finish. It was hard to stay motivated at some points!
Great but they are more efficient way to do the hull. I like it.
Ive been dreaming of a printed PT boat myself. Well done! Great size! The hull planes very well at high speed.
Looks good, especially on the water, seems to handle like a dream. It's just a challenge to get these 3D printed surfaces to look smooth, right?
And for your next trick, a torpedo launch.
Nicely done even with your own comments about some things. Only thing I Think it needs is some figures.
Very nice, I made the 1943 Fletcher 5 1/2 feet
My Brother made a running Fletcher but it is 4 feet. DD536 the USS Owen my Dads ship in Korea. Love Fletchers
Looks great. Would it be possible to weigh the boat fully loaded with battery? This boat has its center of gravity at about 64% of waterline. Figure it will be near the fuel filter cap. I am guessing it is 12.5 lbs? Power would be 110 watts at a full speed of almost 9 mph. Good luck.
Do you run differential thrust in the turns or all motors run at the same rpm?
I like it, I built one also don't know the scale its 33 inch long made from wood, PVC, Brass, lead parts. Modified it with a 50,000 rpm brushless motor and jet drive.
This one is 1:20 and 48" long if you want to do the math!
Man that's awesome! Great job! Did you temp the motors to see if they are getting hot?
Actually, I had an incident related to that. Motors heated up the 3D printed motor mount and one of them failed. Fitz from HobbyView printed me some Nylon mounts (I can't print Nylon) and those have not had any issues since.
Fantastic.... I love its' very much indeep.... Can you tell me where can I purchase the.... 3D...files....pls...😂🎉
I know this is just a detail, but to make it truly the PT-109, you need to print a 37mm anti-tank gun for the front deck. PT boats were highly customized by their crews. I love them, the larger the scale, the better! Great job.
Great observation! Thanks for the comment!
Looks good but apparently not finished, like the starboard 50 cal and a few other details missing. The PT 109 was never on the hull and the wrong location on the chart house. Do you plan on adding a crew?
Thanks for the comment. Correct, I have not finished printing details for it. Hopefully not much longer. I was not sure about the label (it's vinyl stickers I made with a cutter). I tried looking up several boats and was never 100% sure. Once I get all the detail work done I'll probably sit down and do better research to get it more accurate. I wanted to get it seaworthy as fast as I could so my dad could enjoy it.
Достойно уважения!
Which paint did you use for the hull
In motion, it seems that the front part needs to be weighted. When slowing down, everything is fine. And so the boat behaves very stable and maneuverable. Great job!
Wish it was in 1/25 or 1/24 scale.
Where did the print file come from. It looks great. Most of our kids don't have a clue so they don't know the story and would think it's awsome
CGtrader by Bensworx. He has several other models available. The instructions are VERY detailed and fairly easy to follow. He tells you all the hardware to purchase whether you want a static model or RC.
👍
Such a wonderful job , such detail, then you ruined it by putting the PT 109 on the bow sides.
Thanks? It's a sticker. And I did not know. This was a gift for my dad.
@@rcflightvids1358 It is beautiful all the same. As I Child growing up there was a older man that ran a seasonal row boat rental business for tourists on the Barnaget Bay in NJ. In the Winter he was a public school teacher. The man was salty and didnt have a lot of money but he kept a roof over his families head and he was a happy soul. He would talk about being on a PT boat crew and seemed to know every screw and bolt on the Elco 80 . He could spit out to you the speed , range , fuel , weapons , weight, draft, beam of the Elco 80 faster then he could blink his eyes. . He would only discuss about being in the Navy in WW2 when asked but never pushed his tales on anyone. Such a humble man that would give kids like me an orange soda ( never any other flavor ) on a hot Summer day. When I was 20 he passed away and I felt obligated to attend his wake. I was shocked when I arrived at his services. The man that I believed was just an old man row boat tender had been a Lt Jg in the United States Navy and was the skipper of an Elco 80 PT boat in the Pacific in the same squardron as JFK and PT 109. Lt Jg Arthur Disque USN -- boy could he have helped you with your project.
@@rcflightvids1358, Also the PT numbers on the chart house are mislocated.
Why no guns in the forward position starboard?
I'm cracking up how many people have commented that. I just haven't finished printing a lot of the smaller details. I dropped the boat inside my truck one day coming back from a meetup and a bunch of smaller parts fell off that need to be reprinted as well.
Wow cool is this for sale ?
No, I made this one for my dad. You can buy the STL files off CGtrader. I believe the name of the creator is bensworx. If you search PT109 RC on CGtrader you should find it.
@@rcflightvids1358 awesome 👍 I'm sure he is pleased 😁
Okay, not bad, but. Didn't the 109 have 4 .50 caliber machine guns, in to dual mounts? Also where is the 37mm gun that Kennedy scrounged up and mounted on the bow?
I guess I should have finished everything before posting it lol. A lot of people are disturbed by that! Thanks for the comment. Several other details are not there that I have not completed.
@@rcflightvids1358, I believe that 37MM gun was only put on that fateful night, so there’s no reason it can’t be left off. Then you can always make it another PT number.
Lindbergh kit redesigned. Not real
Where's JFK?
The letters "PT" are never on the Hull of a PT Boat! There was lines coiled on the deck both forward and aft as well as lines on the mast for signaling and fliying the American Flag! 109 had a 80mm tank gun up forward!
The buzzer is annoying
Just curious. Are you talking about the vibration the motors are making or the beeping of the transmitter low battery? We got all the way out there and didn't have any other batteries with us. We had been waiting a few weeks for nice weather to get out so we went ahead and ran it. I agree, the beeping was annoying.
Not complete
Does it come equipped with an arrogant skipper who ignores standing orders, thus instantly killing two under his command and imperiling the rest, only to be lionized in a massive daddy-sponsored fictional re-invention of the incident ?
Bad copy. Second torpedos can not shot.
All 4 torpedo tubes pivoted outward to fire.
No need to reply, i saw 🪚 m the post where you got the plans. That what i wanted.
