I've seen many theories but I haven't decided what I believe the video is portraying. I CAN say that the acting was A+ top grade. I love these two together and agree we need to see them in a movie AND a K-drama
I know, I can't decide whether the cube just kills everyone or if it's because they are damaged in some way. I mean, she is wearing black and he is wearing white. My thoughts are that he being in white was accepted until he damaged his eye, and before that, he could protect her to a point. But I can't work it out. The only thing that lets me get through it without crying is the final image of them in the camera (that shows a happy life) is them going up to the sky "heaven" together. But that pile of clothes breaks me. I guess my final thought is ... sometimes a brief moment of complete happiness has to be and is enough. 😢💜🫶🏻🫰🏻

The pile of clothes has a deeper meaning. Originally Christian Boltanski built a pile of clothes with small piles of clothes around it and with a crane that would slowly pick up the clothes from the smaller pile and add it to the bigger one. The big pile of clothes illustrates the heaviness of all the hearts now lost. Every article of clothing symbolizes one person who died. So in the music video the clothes represent all the people who have died, that after we are gone we are all just a pile of clothes. Christian says "When the clothes are falling down its very optimistic. Like souls, they are free". So for me that makes the ending so much more profound.

Le Guin; and though there are links that imply a connection to the Sewol Ferry disaster, BTS have never confirmed it. The artistic imagery of the pile of clothes BTS MV producers used in Spring Day is in homage to the artistic installation 'Personnes' by Christian Boltanski, 2010. An installation which speaks of souls who weren't ready to die, but died painfully ~ the implication being at the hands of others. In this case, in the IU MV, the 'hands' being society in the way it mocks (as in the faceless figures in the banquet scene IU and Taehyung fight off), marginalises and discriminates against those disabled or not born 'perfect' to fit in the 'normal' box (the box that is chasing them).

"For those who confused in storyline" IU’s character is deaf and taehyung’s one eye is blind. That’s why she uses sign language when they’re eating and she covered taehyung’s left eye at the end to protect it. One theory I read, the couple represents aging people who are close to death and the cube represents the inevitable death. They were reminiscing their youth through the cam recorder which is all cheerful, bright and colorful. However, the reality is not as beautiful, when it’s time for you to go, you have to go. They spent their time together loving each other until their last breath.
I read new theory through you then.. Because the first theory I read was about The Cube is like a society who wants everything to be perfect, hence why the cube are hunting iu and Tae because they're disabled which indicates that they're imperfect.. The camera was like a dream of the reality they couldn't have, they looks normal and perfect through the camera, they imagining themselves happy, having a normal life without their disabilities, tae can see and iu can sing in their wedding imagination.. But then the cube aka the reality of social life caught up to them and once again hunting them to bring them down...

I'm just copy pasting an explaination I saw under another video: The Cube represents society, it is chasing every individual who doesn't fit the standards of society. Here V is half blind, IU is deaf and mute. So they are running from oppression of society. The world is controled by these standards of perfection to the point that people in the world put masks on when they don't have make-up or when they feel inssecure or they wear hats when their hair is messy. The MV is a dystopian view of our society. While they are trying to hide in this abondonned place filled with the clothes of people who died because of this oppression, they find a camera that allows them to have an illusion of what their lives could be if they were "normal" by society's standards, it starts with their looks, they could see how they would have looked like, then what they would eat, then they start to feel the illusion a bit too much to the point they beautifully imagine that IU could sing and V could sing as well and she could listen to his voice, they could marry each other and just have fun and eat whatever they want because they wouldn't have to care about society or any other kind of oppression. However, as soon as they feel a little bit of confort and try to live their life, the Cube (society) finds them again and push them to retreat and flee again, but the Cube managed to find them again, they try to survive against it and try to fight it as hard as they can, but they cannot beat a stronger system, they just give up but at least they stayed together until the end. Even if they died at the end, they loved each other deeply, it shows that even if society is oppressive, people can love each other and they can find their soulmate even if they are not "normal or perfect" to the eyes of some many others. The pile of clothes is like from Spring Day, these people died because of injustice, but they deserved love, so the pile of clothes can look very gloomy and sad, but as in Spring Day MV if you don't forget them you can seem them happy and free where they are right now...

I knew this mv was going to be excellent, but I didn't expect it to move we all like this. The tenderness (almost innocence?) between them was so disarming. And then the hopelessness of it all... I was so immersed that I could feel their fear and despair.. V and IU's acting and chemistry are so excellent. I loved the fact that Taehyung was not the stereotypical fearless male lead. That man was terrified (he acted it so well!!) and that made everything, including his moment of bravery, feel even more real.

Also, this is SO MUCH like life, and not a movie: no, there's no deus ex machina who rescues the good ones, but they loose. I've lost count on how many times I have watched this MVM. The beautiful chemistry between IU and V portrayed two people that their love was so pure, with no imperfections, although he was blind on his right eye, and she was deaf. They fought until the very end dying together. It was beautifully made, the storyline, lyrics, and of course IU and V"s amazing acting put this masterpiece together. I hope that once Tae returns from military service that he and IU make kdramas and/ or a movie together.

In the MV IU is deaf and V is blind in one eye and IU said the song was about all kinds of love. Like Blaze says you have social media influencers, commentators and everyday people and plus society as a whole who have a tendency to decide what love is and who can and can't love each other. In this MV both have a "disability". I see the cube as a reference to this societal putting people in a box and labelling them. Through the camcorder the two see themselves as they are happy, in love, going to dinner, karaoke even getting married, a natural progression of a relationship. But when the cube is near they are shown as damaged and dishevelled, society is always scary to them. At the end they try and stand against it and fight but they are stripped (I think the clothes are the visual of that) of who they are and put into that box society thinks they belong. Love did win though because they fought together their love wasn't beaten. But I could be wrong

Yes, the chemistry between Taehyung and IU has SK media screaming for a joint project. The fact they are close personal friends in the real world just adds to the feeling of warmth and chemistry they share, and that adds to the public fascination in the two most valuable stars in kpop. The amounts Taehyung has been offered to sign for kdrama are insane. Taehyung said to IU he'd had so many acting offers for his solo year, but he had to focus on music before entering the military. We've known he's had those offers for years (stage musicals, too), but we know he's going to come back to work as actor Kim Taehyung since the new contracts have been signed and BTS have more say over their future.

@@irinavanyan4606 they all can act. They are all very talented. Each one have been praised and some have been sought after for film. Especially Jin, Jimin, and suga along with tae. My point is give props for his contribution to the mv but give praise to the artist . It’s like saying the two females in jk’s mv seven and snty are the reason the song was a hit because of their acting. I like tae but sometimes his stans have tunnel vision. No hate just observation.
@@dyaneleblanc6447 Of course, this is your point of view and it has its place, but for me Tae is the most talented and artistic among all the guys in terms of video, I’ve always seen him in some role... I adore all the guys, each in his own way, but Tae’s aesthetics, his extraordinary style, gait, manners and voice are closer to my nature. I fell in love with BTS thanks to Tae, his voice and charisma, so yes, it is in him that I see the highest potential in acting

I loved your reaction to this, especially Nico's reaction. And it was a good excuse to watch it again (and cry again). The acting was so lovely, I almost didn't notice Tae's voice was missing. I loved the acting, effects, and the scary dystopian sci fi of it.

I thought to myself that maybe now that I've watched this MV over 10 times, I might be able NOT to cry, but I cried again. I love this MV. I love their acting, I love her voice, I love the song, everything. 💜

This mv can mean whatever your interpretation is. A movie would be so lovely. ❤
There are so many layers of story telling and metaphors and the director has explained what the storyline is. It’s a beautiful way for him to convey the message. In addition to this one part of my interpretation is based on the fact that Tae is blind in one eye and has burn scars around that eye. You can see at the beginning he is looking vulnerable, fragile and afraid. IU is leading him and is protective throughout. My interpretation is that he had encountered the cube before and narrowly escaped being captured and so is going through all the emotions from it. At the end, you see IU trying to protective him by picking up the metal bar because (to me) she knows what he went through and wants to protect him. And Tae taking the bar and attacking the cube looks to me like he knows what the cube is capable of and despite his fear of it, he wants to protect her. At the end it didn’t work and you can see the cube glow red with heat and smoke coming off their bodies (burn marks around his eyes). The ending was so poignant. The one tear drop from one eye and on the same side for both of them was so emotional. The song was amazing and felt more epic because of the storyline and visuals. They have great chemistry, first with the amazing duet they did on IU’s Palette and now with their acting skills, not to mention their interactions as friends. It’s so good to see Tae being able to express his acting skills even in a 5minute short. I hope he starts doing movies on his return. This movie really makes everyone feel emotional and they did that with their facial expressions, truly stunning. IU is queen for a reason and Tae our idol of idols never disappoints in his unique take on life and the choices he makes, whether to make an album of music he likes or to act in a short film all choices with a sad, emotionally moving ending. He wants his artistry to move us emotionally rather than hit the top spots on charts. Love these two artists. It’s time to stop calling this kpop.

И, конечно, клип и песня вышли за пределы кпоп. Аю и Тэ несут послание об общечеловеческих ценностях. Мне очень нравятся смыслы, заложенные в клип и песню, я восхищаюсь тем, что из кпоп культуры выросло это философское направление, огромную роль в котором сыграли БТС. Мне хочется верить, что Тэхен не свернет с этой дороги в своем дальнейшем творчестве. Нам нужен он именно такой- честный, смелый, чистый. Горжусь им невероятно! Director Uhm Tae-hwa on the personality of the Cube named Nemo and what he represents in the video: "Nemo represents the discrimination that the main characters face and can also be interpreted as representing the different types of discrimination and oppression that are common in our daily lives." “However, in the end, the bodies of the two disappear after being chased by Nemo, and only the clothes they were wearing remain. When they both rise into the air, it means that they can finally fly freely, freed from all kinds of oppression and pressure,” director Uhm Tae-Hwa.
Thanks guys for your thoughtful & in depth reaction. This MV is nothing less than a masterpiece. IU’s beautiful & ethereal voice set to music is overwhelming & makes you feel the emotions she conveys. Both were superb in their acting. They are such great friends & have an endearing chemistry together. If I recall correctly, when V was a guest on IU’s Pallet show, she asked V what he wanted to act in. He commented he would like to try a sci-fi movie. I am so glad she & her crew chose V to work with her on her MV & gave him that opportunity to fulfill his wish before enlistment. Both are outstanding singers & actors.
