RTX Graphics Card in a 20 Year Old Family PC...
Hello everyone and welcome back (atlast) to another Budget Builds Episode where today were taking a look at the Pentium 4....But not in the way you all think. No we're taking it to just about the feasable limit of what should be possible. Involving modifying the BIOS of an old Dell, stripping out processors that are actually decent, and attempting to get the PC to even work. It's been a complete mess trying to get this video out, from the initial review going downhill, through to the pain of actually getting these parts to all work together, either way I hope you all enjoy.

The Pentium 4 was really being bottlenecked, youd need a much more powerful card for that system.
The Pentium 4 is the key to quantum computing.
With the liquid nitrogen should be able to reach 5ghz
RTX 4090...yes...😄🤣
@@MrEpicface97why
He'd have to wait for the 5090 to release
And on the next episode, we'll see an intel 486 paired with an RTX 4090
😂😂😂😂good luck
No drivers would work, but theoretically you could use a PCI->PCIe bridge and use it as a video output device.
@@DrewWalton maybe som linux drivers can work

FINALLY!!!
This is what happens when you spend the entire budget on the GPU
🤣
When you buy the rest of your system with the mail in rebate savings
You could actually find better CPUs for free, at the side of the road 😁
Damn it, I was gonna say that lmao.
Always better spending on a solid gpu. You can survive with a discrete functional cpu , but not the other way around. Cpu can wait, not graphics card.
He figured out how to make the 4060 TI look good. He's a genius!
😂 lol
its not the fact its a bad card, its just at an abysmal price

The value proposition of this PC is actually a perfect fit for the 4060 Ti
Why say that? Is the 4060 that bad in comparison to 70 and 80 series in the even the older 20 or 30 models?
@@MrAceAwesome1the 4060 and 4060ti are overpriced and not really an upgrade at all to the 3000 series cards of similar name. 3060 is actually the better buy because it's got 12gb lol.

this is one of the hardware reviews of all time.
The "newest game , oldest cpu" sounds like one heck of a competition. i always love watching your unique content.

Nice to see a new budget builds official video. This is the pc equivalent of a bodybuilder who's never done leg day or cardio.
its amazing what the Pentium 4 can do with a 4060 Ti, even if by any means, you shouldnt even consider a 4060 ti for a Pentium 4
Why not ? It's a pretty nice build. You can play GTA on it 😂
First - welcome back, missed your stuff greatly. Second - this type of video is exactly why I have subscribed to you 4 channels (of mine) ago. Third - I'd definitely want to see a 25p PC built nowadays, could be even harder potentially than back then? Fourth - I have no idea why I have that exact same "young tender whole carrots" bag you had on top of the Dell and where it came from, especially considered Poland is not necessarily close to the UK, but I do have it! Did not expect to see it today. Fifth - you've got adamantium balls for putting the GPU this close to the water. Especially if you have to send it back.
Been thinking recently where you went, lovely to see you, the person that sparked my love for old hardware, back.
Literally just saw a video in another completely unrelated channel named "Budget Builds in 2023?" the video wasn't about this channel but it made me go "Man, it's been a while since I've watched Budget-Builds Official. Wonder why he stopped posting." Then came here and saw he just posted a video 8 hours ago. I don't know how the universe did this but I love it.
And what about Celeron D and RTX? Will it make the horrible chip any better? Nice video by the way,
I would go so far to put a one from the Celeron 400 series against that. They are single core, have 512k L2 Cache, clock about 30% slower, and still beat every Pentium 4
My boy is back again! ❤
Heyooooh!
Fantastic video, sir! As a former P4 daily driver (2004-2012), this tickled me inside!
Hope you’re doing well man nice to hear from you.

Glad to see you again! Your videos are super fun to watch and also sort of keep me in touch with my field of study.
No wonder there is a 7 month gap getting this to work.
Just yesterday I was checking the channel for any updates. Glad to have you back 🎉
He's still alive!
Right? I was thinking about this channel the other day and wondering if he'd passed for some reason and just nobody told me.
A Budget Build is never late, nor is he early. He arrives precisely when he means to Note: those games can probably run off GPU alone better than the Pentium.
Welcome back, friend. You did not disappoint. Seriously addressing a thing no one asked about ever and doing it with conviction. The moment I knew I was infor something special was when you said you were down grading from C2Q to a P4. Thank you.
Would be funny to see something like a Pentium EE or a Xeon 5000 series (for instance 5080) with 2 core and 4 thread based on the netburst architecture... Maybe it's an idea for the RTX 5000 series ? like pairing a Xeon 5080 with an RTX 5080 :)
Yes! Matching the codes! That HAS to work, right? They have the same number on them, they must be compatible!😂
I’m 100% sure this is what Palit had in mind…
Absolutely. But they have to fight for that title with Zotac, they made stuff like a GT 430 on PCI
Holy shit. Thank you SO MUCH for finally coming back, and I'm pretty sure this is the first time we have seen your face (at least my first time). Despite being on the high end cutting edge of PC Gaming since 2011, as a former console exclusive gamer from 2002 - 2011 (I got out of PC gaming around 2002), I have always loved your videos simply due to bang for the buck, and they definitely appeal to me in the 10 years or so I was console only. I missed out on so much back in those days. As someone still very much proudly stuck in the 90's (3DFX, Pentium II, and Athlon for Life baby!!!), your videos are a godsend for me.

Yay! good to see you are still uploading I been waiting for a new Video 😀 Love your Videos
You found a way to make the 4060Ti interesting, in a certified Budget-Builds way. Welcome back!
I wonder if one of the newer AMD RX 6000 graphics cards would do better. They perform more tasks on the GPU instead of farming it out to the CPU, so you can get 20% or so more performance than Nvidia sometimes if you have a really slow CPU. (AMD GPUs can be more difficult to get working under weird situations though, and this is definitely weird lol)
These dell BIOS require a boot mode that AMD doesnt support I will test with my 6700XT on my P4 system.
@@RedStripeMedia As soon as I get my upgrade ready, I will throw my 1060 into my Core 2 system, just to see how ridiculous it gets.
What patience. What dedication. we could all learn from you. Thanx brother.
I was pleasantly surprised to see a new vid from you :) Also gg's to you making this "questionable" GPU turn into something good. Keep up the good work!
This was extremely enjoyable and something I had no clue was even possible. A Pentium 4 with an actual useable PCI-E Slot 😭 You should try a Core 2 Quad and compare em. It's incredible to think about modern CPU's.. Nehalem was released in 2008 and is still somewhat useable, that's the same amount of time going back to the original P5 Pentium in 1993 and the P5 was not useable in 2008.
I was enjoying westmere until just last year. The old xeons are utterly capable even lacking avx2.
@@ignotumperignotius630 definitely. Tons of KZheadrs including myself have praised em for years. I have a Westmere EP system still to this day with 5690s that's extremely capable. I even used it as a main rig for a while earlier this year due to a fatal issue with my main rig. I used it for editing and playing Battlefield 2042 casually for about 2 months. Even Fortnite ran well and I was using a 3060ti and GPU usage was 100%. I was impressed again, to say the least
Westmere and even Penryn have aged surprisingly well. We've reached some sort of equilibrium. You can use any Core 2, first gen Core i, Phenom, etc quad for basically all tasks today outside of AAA gaming. They have pretty similar IPC, the only difference is that the Phenom and Core i will give 6 cores and that the Intels will give SSE4 And yes, Pentium 4 and PCIe were a thing. They brought them with Prescott and LGA775
Not really a surprise when the northbridge was responsible for PCIe back then.
He kind of compare them at 12:46
8:30 Considering Matrox now does Intel Arc based low end cards you could definitely do something with them, if you can find one that is.
Great to see you uploading again, i hope everything is alright. Looking forward to see more videos soon.
Glad to have you back
I did this same thing pretty much because I bought a BFG GTX 280 launch week of 08' and slapped it in my eMachines P4 desktop. I was confused why Crysis was 22fps lol. Even just upgrading to a C2D 6600 unlocked it mostly, but the card does surprisingly well with much nicer processors.
I'm shocked the drivers didn't need newer CPU instructions
This is rather unfortunate. I haven’t been keeping up with pc deals and just in general, pc community, but i was looking rather forward to watching your videos again, but this is the only video you have made so far. I hope i can see more videos of you soon, mate. I do enjoy your videos quite a lot.
Dude finally returned! Welcome back!
Oooh, i'll have to check if there is a modded bios for my favorite dell 6520 laptop... The chipset officially supports 3rd gen ivy bridge cpu's, but dell being dell limited it to 2nd gen sandy bridge so that you had to buy a newer model, literally a 6530 if i recall. Been years since i looked for a bios.
Glad to see you're back. I really missed your content. If you need another RTX title to run on any pc, you could try doom. Yes, the 1993 game. Yes, there's a rtx mod for it!
I nearly forgot this underated channel
I just went through this man's entire back catalogue! The problem is: now what? Last post over 2 months ago! I found this channel with the PC for 25p video! Please come back and grace us with more budget-friendly builds!
What a cute little card. It's fascinating to see how much more powerful it is (or would be) than my enormous GTX 1070
On the same kind of note, I’m running an nvidia a2000. Equivalent to a 3050 or 3050ti if they made one. And it’s amazingly small and efficient. Runs completely off power from the pci slot actually. Perfect for office pc upgrades :)
I wonder if an RX 7600 would have done better, due to the driver overhead on the Nvidia card.
That's what I thought! Getting rid of that annoying driver overhead and it should be silky smooth.
Makes me wonder where AMD have improved their driver overhead. I still remember during DX11 times how much they gained from switching to Mantle and later Vulkan. Like in Doom 2016 where a RX 480 easily gained 25-50% and went from being 25% slower than a GTX 970 to being 15% faster, while nvidia cards gained 5% at best from low level APIs.
Glad your back I've been getting back into your videos the last few days and was disappointed to see you were no longer uploading
Really glad to see you back. I missed this channel.
It would be interesting to see how the system performs with games that run fine on the P4 but at very high resolutions like 4K or more (e.g using DSR) :D
Like Half Life 2 or Far Cry? Oh, Doom 3 should run well, considering that can be forced to run on a Voodoo 2
I think the original Stalker had pentium 4 as system requirements if I remember right too.
RX 6400 would be a suitable GPU for this one. Sure, probably at least 10x faster than the fastest GPUs of the Pentium 4 era, but a 2020 era gpu with 4GB of vram and 53W TBP is something else.
rofl the times when I had more video ram than I had actual RAM for my pc .
Seen how much the RX 6400 is held back by PCIe 3? Yeah, this got PCIe 1 Okay, on one hand every modern card would be bottlenecked by a Pentium 4. But from a more realistic perspective (getting a new card for your ancient computer), the user would probably also max out the other parts. So a Core 2 Quad, 8 GB RAM and a decently sized SATA SSD would be in there. And for that the RX 6400 is the wrong card. I would say GT 1030 level performance is the absolute maximum, and even that is stretching it.
Welcome back! Sure as hell missed your content
I've been waiting so long for your return!
Try old CPUs with AMD graphics cards. They have lower overhead and will stress the cpu less.
The best choice i made recently for my pc was going for the 4070 instead of 4080, after being used to the jet engine that is a 2080 the 4070 is so quiet and runs like a dream
I have that same Dell Inspiron 530. It was my first computer for just myself as a kid and what taught me most of my basic computer knowledge that I have today. It's always a treat to see it pop up in random videos so I can have a small trip down memory lane. (Even if you did absolutely mangle it)

I was only just the other day reminiscing about Budget videos and to my surprise this morning here is one. Almost goes back to the days of my first PC although I doubt you'd find a 486 board with a PCI-e slot. I think the technology would be in different eons. Nice to see and hear you again.
For that I would look into industrial equpiment. Or Intel Quark. While not 486, but P5 based, they offer PCIe.
