RTX Graphics Card in a 20 Year Old Family PC...

Hello everyone and welcome back (atlast) to another Budget Builds Episode where today were taking a look at the Pentium 4....But not in the way you all think. No we're taking it to just about the feasable limit of what should be possible. Involving modifying the BIOS of an old Dell, stripping out processors that are actually decent, and attempting to get the PC to even work. It's been a complete mess trying to get this video out, from the initial review going downhill, through to the pain of actually getting these parts to all work together, either way I hope you all enjoy.

Third - I'd definitely want to see a 25p PC built nowadays, could be even harder potentially than back then? Fourth - I have no idea why I have that exact same "young tender whole carrots" bag you had on top of the Dell and where it came from, especially considered Poland is not necessarily close to the UK, but I do have it! Did not expect to see it today. Fifth - you've got adamantium balls for putting the GPU this close to the water. Especially if you have to send it back.

They perform more tasks on the GPU instead of farming it out to the CPU, so you can get 20% or so more performance than Nvidia sometimes if you have a really slow CPU. (AMD GPUs can be more difficult to get working under weird situations though, and this is definitely weird lol)

    • Seen how much the RX 6400 is held back by PCIe 3? Yeah, this got PCIe 1 Okay, on one hand every modern card would be bottlenecked by a Pentium 4. But from a more realistic perspective (getting a new card for your ancient computer), the user would probably also max out the other parts. So a Core 2 Quad, 8 GB RAM and a decently sized SATA SSD would be in there. And for that the RX 6400 is the wrong card. I would say GT 1030 level performance is the absolute maximum, and even that is stretching it.

  • I was only just the other day reminiscing about Budget videos and to my surprise this morning here is one. Almost goes back to the days of my first PC although I doubt you'd find a 486 board with a PCI-e slot. I think the technology would be in different eons. Nice to see and hear you again.

    • For that I would look into industrial equpiment. Or Intel Quark. While not 486, but P5 based, they offer PCIe.
