I went to Santa Monica, CA to ask random people to sing with me for my series called "Sing With Me." That's when I met Sara Beth, Mounica, and Mannie.
Mounica (born in India) sat and watched me play for several people who were singing. Then, eventually her friend convinced her to sing with me. I’m glad she did. Not only did Mounica have a good time singing, but she made us all happier listening to her. Also, it gave her an opportunity to share her great singing talent with the world.
Sara Beth sang several songs with me that day as well. Mannie helped us finish the show with one last song. And then, after 5 or 6 hours, I was done for the day!
As a musician, I'm all about creating musical experiences that have people feeling happy and free, and that's why the "Sing With Me" series exists. Since 2018, I have asked thousands of random people to sing with me on camera. A lot of people have said no, some have said no initially but changed their minds to yes, and some have said yes right away. I ask these people to sing with one purpose: to create a way for them to experience a sense of happiness and freedom they did not feel before. And much of the time, this actually works (and that makes ME happy).

  • I've lived in the Bay area my whole life, but I was coincidentally in LA for the weekend when I saw Reggie. I was there on vacation with my close friend, and when we walked by Reggie at the beach, she instantly started trying to convince me to sing with him. I was initially super nervous and said no at first, but as I watched some talented people sing and saw how much fun they were having, I changed my mind. I'm really glad I changed my mind, because I would have definitely regretted it if I didn't. Singing with Reggie was so fun, and reminded me of why I started music in the first place. Thanks Reggie for allowing me to sing with you!! You're insanely talented too which made it all the more cooler to be a part of that great experience. I definitely won't ever forget this trip to LA!!

  • Monica stated she's had training in Indian classical music. That music and that training is intense. She started at 8 and trained for 10 years. Anyone who's trained in any Indian classical music (there are broadly 2 strains) for 10 years can pretty much nail any mainstream western song in any pitch. And she proved it.

It’s stored in your grey matter and retrieved upon hearing it activates your white matter that evokes the response or illicits the emotion that you feel from it via neurochemical transmitters in your limbic system. That sometimes explains the flashbacks you might get from a song. Music is a very powerful tool for humankind (our bodies are literally pulsating to the rhythm -of our heart beat, of our breathing, of our circadian rhythm) from the moment we’re born to the moment we die. Without that beat, we don’t live. Music can make you feel happy or sad depending on the personal circumstances or memories you associate or have created with a piece music. It also DOESN'T have to be the "old school" record deal like yesteryear. Today's artist steams their own music utilizing many different (popular) venues. 21st Century Tech is hitting everybody up with all kinds of ways to get the music out there without having to SIGN ON THE DOTTED LINE! ;-D Contracts are becoming a thing of the past! Most artists are "free spirits" nowadays. It's the TOURING/TRAVELING/TRANSPORATION, booking shows, costly showcases (stage, lights, costumes, dancers, etc), along with promotion (including radio & TV), paying the staff & crew, and of course, the cost of studio time, etc. that can make or break a "lone" artist. In such a case it is probably advantageous to be signed to a label that will pick up the TAB! The CRUCIAL part of this is to hire an attorney that deals with the "SHOW BIZ" aspect and is PRIVY to the industry practices...especially those awful binding contracts. This will become essential if the artist decides to go for a record deal! ;-D
