They're making wood veneer. There's a blade next to the right-hand roller that is shaving off a thin sheet of wood. You can see part of of it behind the right-hand roller, but it's mostly hidden. A better angle on the shot would have been much better.

For anybody confused, they are making thin slices of wood veneer, which is where 99% of the wood is going. The leftover stick is the by-product, not what is being produced, and is probably also further used

It's really sad how many people jump to a conclusion of "excessive waste"... It's how plywood is made people, you know, the stuff that most all houses are sided with under the pretty outer siding and roof shingles. Nothing is wasted in a wood mill, everything is recycled, even the tiny chips.

@@evelynzinnauer348 The thickness of the piece is irrelevant, the problem is them using an entire log for each. Off the very top of my head, you could core out like 12 of those poles if you drilled them out with a hollow drill You could split the log vertically into many smaller pieces and perform this same operation on each chunk. Thats just two options of the top of my head, neither is great. There's a thousand actually good ways to do this, and this is none of them. Its actually hard to conceive of a more wasteful and inefficient machine

@@Urammar They are not making poles. They are shaving the log into thin sheets to use for laminated wood, plywood, and many other composite materials. There is a blade at the bottom but it is difficult to see. It shaves the log into one long thin sheet. The. The pole is used for dowel rods or something else. This has very little waste of the wood.

Let’s make it simple If you look closely under the right roller, there is a blade.when the log rolls the wood is unrolled into thin layers. A number of layers are glued on one another and pressed thight. The final result is plywood. There is NO waist at all.

@@Sava.S I think you have been mistaken. Actually they are making thin sheets of wood (called veneer) and not sticks that is just a by-product this is actually saving trees because you can get the look of wood without the whole thing made of wood

@@evelynzinnauer348 The thickness of the piece is irrelevant, the problem is them using an entire log for each. Off the very top of my head, you could core out like 12 of those poles if you drilled them out with a hollow drill You could split the log vertically into many smaller pieces and perform this same operation on each chunk. Thats just two options of the top of my head, neither is great. There's a thousand actually good ways to do this, and this is none of them. Its actually hard to conceive of a more wasteful and inefficient machine
@@Urammar They are not making poles. They are shaving the log into thin sheets to use for laminated wood, plywood, and many other composite materials. There is a blade at the bottom but it is difficult to see. It shaves the log into one long thin sheet. The. The pole is used for dowel rods or something else. This has very little waste of the wood.

Let’s make it simple If you look closely under the right roller, there is a blade.when the log rolls the wood is unrolled into thin layers. A number of layers are glued on one another and pressed thight. The final result is plywood. There is NO waist at all.
