As a malinois owner i will say, it helps a lot if you have a job for these dogs. They want to work and do a good job for you. But if you're not mentally stimulating them, they will get bored. And boredom for a malinois means escapes, destruction of property and acting out. They are amazing and beautiful friends who will love you to pieces. Just know they're a handful as well

My big boy is the same. Rough play but zero possessiveness with his toys or food. I can reach into his good bowl or simply take it away with absolutely zero aggression towards me. 3 plus years and he's never once shown me any aggressive behaviour for any reason. He's amazing. 100+ lbs mastiff x boarder collie x black lab mix. He's even fantastic with every single dog he's met. Couldn't ask for a better pup

I used to have a Groenen, he had the cutest way of arguing with me being a voicy, snarly little gremlin, but he was also the most precious and snuggly dog ever, capable of giving real hugs and knowing how to comfort me. It is nearly going to be a year now that he passed in about 2 months. Your boi is a cutey and also a little gremlin, I can tell. I am very happy for you.

oh my goodness I miss my German Shepherd, she used to LOVEEEEEEE this kinda play with her toys, she absolutely loved tug of war that was her favorite. My grandfather actually got her for me when I was around 2 years old because I had a fear of dogs and he wanted me to learn how loving and protecting they are, it was one of the best decisions my family could’ve made ❤ She protected me her entire life and she still holds an extremely high place in my heart above any dog i’ve had since. Me and my family were her entire world and she’d do anything to keep us safe. Lol they even let me name her, which my uncle was very disappointed to learn when he got home from work that day, as I decided as a two year old to name her Princess 😂

Great advice they are awesome dogs for the right person. I have seen a good bit of people who can’t handle the breed people just want one because they think they are a cool not thinking about the dog and it’s need.

We have a whippet / jack russel mix that plays like this. We rescued her from a shelter. I can't imagine her with kids or elderly folks. We've got a big red rubber weiner dog toy just like that (call it the weeny), and I made a couch from a mattress and fitted cover from slip cover shop website, just to play rough on. This video makes sense to me.

Many years ago I had a border collie lab mix who sometimes liked to play hand-mouth wrestle. Fortunately, I have owned 2 pairs of pillow mittens for several decades, so I would put one of these pairs on, and play this game for awhile. Funny thing is, this dog was a really chill, laid back, and friendly dog, who liked people. I miss all of our dogs, but I probably miss him the most.😞 I still have both pairs of pillow mittens, and both are somewhat battered, but still useable. Got them with an employee discount in my early twenties and I'm in my mid sixties now, so they are over 40 years old. I keep stuff until it totally wears out. Not from need, but because I like to keep using stuff until it isn't any good anymore. It's a combo of thriftiness and humor because it amuses me to take any old garment and try to remember where and when I got it.😄

He calls it a “drool blanket”, I call mine the “squirt sheet”. We of course have different playmates…

My dog is the same colour and body shape of your malinois,except her face is less black. She is a rescue dog and allegedly supposed to be alsation/ staffy with some mastiff thrown in some where. She is a very gentle and receptive dog. Only barks when someone comes to the door and boy its a loud bark. The speed she runs at is quite amazing, but has never caught a squirrel yet! Your boy is gorgeous, but i would never have one,due to not being able to give the amount of physical and mental training plus walks. Also although i have had quite a few dogs in the last 37 yrs I'm aware I probably could not train him/her to the necessary level. Although all my dogs have played with toys, but gave them to me when i said leave. There is so much more to know how to train to an extreme breed to a 😢❤ level to keep them safe. I cannot believe how much he looks like my girl. ❤ He is so quick when he goes to pick up the toy.. it's such a pleasure to watch you play/ work together...

“He’s a vocal player” YES! THANK YOU! My Amstaff is a vocal player. People don’t understand that. Dogs can be vocal players. As an owner, you learn to recognise the tone difference. Same goes with barks. I can discern the difference in tone between a playful bark, a warning bark, a scared/nervous bark, a bark that says “intruder but I’m not worried” etc. And that.s valid for any breed. I’ve had Dobermanns, a Labrador Retriever, a Deutsche Bracke, a Border Collie… and now an Amstaff and a Chihuahua. All trained (yes, including the Chihuahua: if it can bark at the front end and can wag its tail at the back end, it gets trained if it lives in my house). Temperaments vary from breed to breed and from individual to individual. Learn to know the breed’s requirements. Learn your dog’s way of expressing him/herself. Including your dog’s tones and body language.

One of these came to my house, crying with a broken leg a little blood and a lot of dirt. I figured he was hit by a car. I tried to take him to the vet, when I go to scoop him up my hands underneath him he turned and took a bite into my forehead. My bad. I should’ve been more cautious. He’s been rehabbing on my floor now for a few days, gave him a bath wrapped the leg gave him a comfy blankets. He’s moving around on the three legs.I worry when he’s back to all four what he’s going to be like. Prayers.

I have a Tervuren Belgian Shepherd - think long-haired Malinois - and I can't imagine having any other dog. He's my best buddy. The Belgian Shepherd breeds aim to please and are easy to train into good or bad habits. These dogs are high energy and need to run around daily for at least an hour stretch at a time.

As a lover if Siberian Huskies & Alaskan Malamutes I deeply appreciate the warnings you provide for people considering adding a dog to the family. Every breed has characteristics that might be deal breakers. Breaks my heart to see folks who don’t run, adopt a husky, or don't want a puller, get a Mal. The worst is when they're shocked by the shedding and make them live outside without a pack. It's exhilarating to hear his vocalization. Love HIM!!!

I love how you can really get aggressive with these types of dogs. Of course, you HAVE to learn to control that. But if you can, you have such a fun way to excercise, and form a great bond with your best friend.
