  • Here's the good news. That place is going to be AMAZING when you get it all done. That place is a jewel in the rough!

    @-OBELUS-@-OBELUS-27 күн бұрын
    • Here's the bad news. This is a yearly job. Though a good paint job on the concrete will make it easier. However, every fall you'll need to drain the pool a little, and cover it to prevent as many leaves as possible or other debris from getting in. Then pump it to dry, clean it, paint it, then fill it. Draining the pool completely isn't necessarily advisable, because if there is any water behind the concrete it will freeze and push on the concrete causing damage to the pool. You'll want to make sure your drain at the bottom is clear as well. That drain can help remove water through the main pool pump. If it isn't, you could foul up your pump, which is an expensive mistake. Do not use the pool pump to drain the pool in the spring unless your pool is completely free of debris. Muriatic acid is your friend for cleaning a pool, but seriously dangerous stuff. You absolutely need to clean the concrete with it before you paint, otherwise the mildew and mold will prevent the paint from adhering to the concrete.

  • Some advice from a former pool owner. Jenna, You may already know this if you did your research, but you can only leave an inground pool empty for 2-4 weeks before it starts to move. It's why the concrete around it has buckled like it has. If you're not ready to renovate just fill it back up at least half way, and throw a cheap cover on it. Also, that looks to be at lease a 40,000 gallon pool, it could cost upwards of 5 to 10 thousand to get it up and running properly, even if you DIY it. It's most likely going to need to be replumbed, a new pump and filtration system, plus, there's regular cost and maintenance, that's why you hear people say things like, "I don't want a pool, I want a neighbor with a pool", It may be better in the long run to just fill it in and create a nice outdoor space for you, friends, and family.

    • Wonderful having a viewer who knows pools! My worry is they need to fix that drain. Otherwise, they’re gonna be always draining it the hard way!! Your advice of filling it halfway is incredibly useful & covering it too. I’m thinking, even if they put some pool shock in it after filling halfway, that would be good, right?

      @VG-RN@VG-RN15 күн бұрын
    • The fact that they started with the pool for renovations is there biggest mistake. This house is gonna be a money pit, the first thing you do since you aren’t demoing is fix all the exterior of the housing and makes sure it’s leak proof so that any indoor work is undamaged. A pool is a horrible thing to start with and anything outdoor. Those things will just grow back by the time you finish the home. An empty pool can also crack and get just as dirty again if left untreated.

  • Before filling up your cleaned-out pool, I suggest doing the following: 1) I would suggest having a plumber person come to inspect all the pipes (you may even want to snake them out). 2) Have a pool service come to inspect the pump, filter, heater, time clocks, lights, electrical wiring, and other equipment. You may want to consider replacements or upgrades to the equipment if it is outdated, rusted out, old, contaminated, or damaged from all the years of neglect or abandonment. 3) You may want to consider putting in LED pool lights (the lights you have are the old incandescent type). LED lights take less energy and some even allow you to change the color of the light. 4) Likely, the pipes that go to the filter pump drain from under the deep end of the pool will need to be snaked out and unclogged due to all the mud and muck that was in that pool, and some of it may have gotten in the pipe. 5) You will want to have the bottom surface of the pool inspected for any leaks or cracks. These should be patched before it back up again. 6) You may want to put a tarp or pool cover over the cleaned out pool, so rain, animals, and children do not fall into the empty pool, and so don't have to clean it out again if the weather goes bad. 7) If you want to extend your swimming season, you may want to consider installing solar heat for your pool in the future.

Look for a partner and friends who have this trait too, and of course never forget to look in the mirror at yourself :P we might not always be aware of our own actions. But it will make you more respected and you will get more done from others too. Throwing tantrums are for children, or emotionally immature adults. And the responses for your environment will be less inclined to help or even take you serious enough to be wanting to help. In worst case you get help only because people are scared of you.

    • The drain only drains when the pool pump sucks the water out and through the filter. Whether the pump works, or if it can pull enough head pressure to prime is another question. They need a trash water pump. A sanitary pump might also work, but doesn't have a long enough cord to be safe

      @johnhaller5851@johnhaller585126 күн бұрын
    • @@johnhaller5851 Pool plumbing usually has a valve to drain the pool. Pool pumps have a easily accessible place to prime them, but most of them are self priming. There main problem would be getting power to the pool pump because the house power is FUBAR. I totally agree on the trash water pump.

      @jasonGreenVw@jasonGreenVw26 күн бұрын
    • @@jasonGreenVw Yes, but it's after the pump. In my case, it's at the bottom of the cartridge filter, but sand or diatomaceous earth filters have a special valve to control backwash or drain. Most pools don't have a slope to allow gravity to drain the pool through a valve below the level of the main drain. The pump and filter are always above the water level of the pool so it doesn't drain while servicing the pump or filter. They could get a test ball with a water insertion to backwash the main drain into the pool. Unfortunately, that pool is so old that the main drain doesn't have two drains to prevent someone from getting stuck to the drain. It's probably also of an age that they used copper lines, which may have developed leaks from corrosion from chlorine, salt, or improper pH. But I've got PVC pipes, which also have a leak, so 🤷‍♂️

      @johnhaller5851@johnhaller585126 күн бұрын

I do think there’s a combination of chemicals you need to bleach the pool, besides just bleach. I think 8 days and how it looks is fantastic. I would also have your pool drain checked. • You are so brave! The pool looked like toxic soup but you did it and it looks amazing! Such a timeless beauty, a gem in the rough! It was obvious that the original owners built a gorgeous "modern" home that over decades was sadly neglected but is now feeling the love and appreciation it deserves! Can't wait to see this gem of a home when you are finished!

  • How many people does it take to empty the pool. Many 😂 We purchased a foreclosure home that had a pool that was 3/4 filled with water and had tons of frogs in it. 🐸 It really stunk! It had chicken wire across the top of it with a bunch of wood, holding it in place in case anybody decided to jump in the pool. It had many frog skeletons on the bottom of the pool. 🤢 Our pool was oval like a half egg so it was easy to fall into it which happened many times. It’s good that we can laugh at it now. It turned out great! Thank you, Jenna. This is great. The views from your backyard is magnificent. ❤

  • Great progress you two! My parents had a pool, so here's my 2 cents. Please make certain the wiring for the pool lights is good to avoid electrocution. Once things progress, pressure wash the concrete decking and paint it with cool decking. I checked Google and it's available in Canada. It stops your tootsies from burning when barefoot around the pool. Such fun watching you guys ❤
