  • At 0:17, for those who are wondering, The trapezoid-shaped wooden press was used for older wooden tennis racquets because it provided even pressure across the frame, helping to maintain the shape of the racquet and prevent warping or distortion over time. This was particularly important for wooden racquets, which were more susceptible to changes in shape due to moisture and temperature fluctuations.

    @puneethgangarapu@puneethgangarapuАй бұрын
    • Less temp and humidity fluctuations (assuming you don’t store the racket outside in the elements) than the string tension would warp the wood frame over time

  • These rackets, even non poly strings are a whole different game, just look at the shift in technique that occurred with modern graphite and more western grips with poly strings. Now everyone has a lot more margin for error, way easier to hit heavy spin and swing as hard as possible and keep the ball in. Would be amazing to see a wooden racket tournament each year with serious prize money and wild cards for maybe some older players. Would be fascinating. And I think it helps develop aspects of a person's game like timing, touch, volleys etc that would increase performance with modern rackets after.

Monfils falls into his age range, both speak french and they have +15 years on tour together, to the least.
